Claudia, you are my adorable idol and inspiration! 😊💕💕 You are a talented and tough little cookie! Watching you dig and move those trees is impressive!! No tree shall defeat you and your plans! 😂 And you are the queen of beautiful trees in a relatively small space. I am soooo on the search for dwarf and semi dwarf evergreens now…. as well as everything else that is fun and pretty. After seeing everything that you and your husband have accomplished in your space seriously has me completely reconsidering what I can do in my own yard. I went from 3 acres, to a nice sized lot in a neighborhood quite similar to yours. So I am super excited after seeing your videos 🥰
I love this so much!!! I have several in the garden I mentioned in our tree tours, but if you need some suggestions, let me know and I would love to send you a list. 💞
All that wetness does make things hard to garden in. Kudos for your determination! Everything is looking good, the beech is beautiful! I like that cedar you dug up, I hope it works out and you can use it. Go dry off with a cup of hot tea tea ☕️ and relax 💕
Ugh you read my mind Denise. I ran in and changed and had some tea to relax. I love planting days like this, but my gosh the wind just makes it challenging, plus the swamping soil. But we got it done, and I really do hope to keep that cedar, it’s too beautiful no to. 🥰💗
thanks for sharing. that looks great with that tree there. when moving trees that takes a lot of time and energy. that was a beautiful tree you removed and maybe when you find it's new spot it will be happy there. again thank you for sharing with us and hope you have a great rest of your day.
LOVE your yard and enthusiasm with trees. I too garden in the PNW in the rain in Portland. I have a small yard so more shrubs than trees. BUT, i have borrowed tree views from my neighbors. Have you thought of a curly willow tree in your wetland area? Great interest all year long and you can use the cuttings in arrangements. Thank you again for sharing your life and garden.
@patriciarozenoff2461 That they do, as does her fir and cedar trees. But Claudia did say she trims them yearly to keep them in check; that's why I brought it up.
Aww thanks Karen!!! Borrowed views are the best! 😆 I love the idea of the curly willow! I’ve read that the can be cut back pretty hard and they do well. I’m adding it to my list of potential trees/shrubs for that space. I completely forgot about them, thank you for mentioning it. 🤗💗
Oooo! I have some suggestions for trees/shrubs in that moist spot. Cornus ‘Hedgerows Gold’ would be beautiful! It’s a red twig dogwood with green & gold variegated foliage and is tolerant of moist/boggy soils. I’ve also read that Dawn Redwoods are tolerant of moist soils. Iseli has a beaut on their website called ‘Hamlet’s Broom’.
What's that gorgeous tree behind you at the end of your video that is such an incredible orange? We had water problems on our land around the house for years and are slowly doing things to handle it. The previous owner had planted red twig dogwood that completely invaded the entire area and is almost impossible to get rid of.... I hated it! If you do want it, you might be able to find a noninvasive hybrid.... We have planted 3 things to help with the water.... weeping willow (but it gets huge and you can't be close to foundations or pipes because the roots will travel far) and a Heritage River Birch... resistant to the borers destroying birches... and Rhododendron viscosum (Swamp azalea) is a great shrub that reaches about 5' and has amazing fragrant white flowers and can take some standing water. Also take a look at Black Lace Elderberry, I just planted one and it's beautiful and also takes some standing water... but can sucker. Love seeing what you are doing with your trees as well as dahlias!
I love that you push the boundaries on those trees. You asked for thoughts on your super wet spot so here are my thoughts; yellow twig dogwoods would should up better against your fence than red twigs, IMO. But since you love trees…is there a skinny oak (Querus) you can squeeze in there? Lots of oaks live with the roots underwater and love it. One more really fun plant that loves shade/pt sun and wet feet is a Gunnera. Yes, it is a perennial but man they are so cool. Have fun on your trip!
Oh my gosh yess!! we were thinking of when we change the fence to use this black metal fence, which is so stunning.. i’m thinking the yellow twig dogwood would show up better in that case as well. I think we can totally squeeze in a skinny oak back there, that didn’t even come to mind. I have a running list of potential trees and potential shrubs so I am adding your suggestion to that list. Gosh I love this idea! Even if we did both? lol 😆 Also the Gunnera!!! Gahhhh those are so cool!!!!! I have a neighbor up the street that has one and they let it grow wild and it gets massive in their front yard. I think they are one of the coolest plants to have in the garden!
I was wondering if you could do both the yellow twigs and the oak. 😃 I have a Gunnera in my garden and it is so fun! Everyone is like “wait, what IS that?”(half expecting a small dinosaur to come walking out from behind it). 😂
Yay trees! My goodness, that is some challenging gardening weather though. You can't be a fair weather gardener if you really love to garden, right? Love the new trees. ❤
You are so right Debra!!! When the rain started I was okay, but then those gusts of wind. 🥶 But when I woke up this morning I went on the deck and admired the new trees, so it was worth it. 🤩💗
I love these beautiful trees!! Great choices!! Here on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, we are having an unusual drought, so I am a little jealous of the wet! I still have to water some of the new trees and shrubs I planted this year. I am a new subscriber and look forward to going back and looking at your videos. So nice to have found your beautiful garden.
Aww thank you! I’m so happy you are here. I think it’s easy for us here in the PNW to forget how lucky we are to have rain, especially when I hear from you guys going through a period of drought. I’m excited to plant these two areas up some more. 🥰💗
It looks like you have a lot of clay or subsoil so it’s still important to break that up and even remove it. You were smart in planting it high though. Good luck with the tree
Oh gosh yes! It was even worse before. We’ve really worked hard the last few years to amend it and help break it up. Our clay still has great nutrients, it’s just so dense here. Planting our trees high has definitely helped our garden. 🥰

Willows love water.❤
All variety of willows, river birch, elderberry, mountain laurel, winterberry, honey locust, Clethra (summer sweet) all do well in wet soil.
All that wetness does make things hard to garden in. Kudos for your determination! Everything is looking good, the beech is beautiful! I like that cedar you dug up, I hope it works out and you can use it. Go dry off with a cup of hot tea tea ☕️ and relax 💕

Yay!! Trees! I couldn’t click on this video quick enough!
Did we just become best friends? 😆 I love that you guys love trees as much as I do!! #teamtreehuggers
I wonder if you’ll plant a willow or birch tree ( both will drink all that extra water ) in that wet spot, this might help with water issue
thanks for sharing. that looks great with that tree there. when moving trees that takes a lot of time and energy. that was a beautiful tree you removed and maybe when you find it's new spot it will be happy there. again thank you for sharing with us and hope you have a great rest of your day.
Sonie you are just the sweetest!! Thank you so much. That rain and wind really made this planting day extra fun. 😆🫠
A weeping willow but it will get BIG….as it loves water. If you limb it up you could get a shade garden under it in time.
In the wet spot, you can plant a multi trunk birch trees would be beautiful and has vertical interest too. Birch loves water.
Swooning!!!!! Yes! I didn’t know they liked wet feet, but I have ALWAYS ALWAYS wanted a birch tree. 🤩 Adding it to the list, thank you!! 🥰💗

Curly willow would be beautiful, though they do get very big.

I'm new to your channel. Great video! The trees will give you a lot of privacy.

Your garden is looking breathtaking. All those autumn colors 💛💚🧡🤎🤍
Thank you so much! We do have some amazing colors right now in the garden, it’s been a beautiful fall for us this year. 🥰
Love your boots!!
Ps- your garden looks beautiful 😊
Aww thanks friend!!! Hunter boots, on sale $54 at Nordstrom Rack! 💃💗

You guys crack me up! With the banter!
Your garden looks great! Lots of/:texture!
This is us all day Deb! 😆
Wow. Lots of work. Enjoyed.

Spruce trees are big drinkers they should be great choices for your moist garden. I’m surprised your removing one.
Oh yes they can be. But we actually removed a cedar. They are both in the like family but the evergreen we removed was a Bush’s Electra Cedar. 🥰
It looks like you have a lot of clay or subsoil so it’s still important to break that up and even remove it. You were smart in planting it high though. Good luck with the tree

Where exactly are you? I m in San antonio tx zone 8b.
I’m in the Portland/Beaverton area in Oregon. 💗
Next time just plant a dapple willow. They love water 💦
I WISH I would have thought of this before. They are so beautiful and would thrive in those swampy area. 😆
