  • Laura Wright (General Hospital, Guiding Light, Loving). Laura is an Emmy award winning actress with a 30 year career in Daytime. Her vulnerability shines through as she opens up divorce, how she fought it with feelings of self-loathing and shame until she found a way through it with meditation and re-discovering herself. Laura opens about the loss of both her parents and how she was able find strength in the gifts that they gave her. She and Maurice also spend some time talking about General Hospital, where their characters have been off and on again since Laura joined the show back in 2005.
Laura Wright has played Carly Corinthos on "General Hospital", Cassie Layne Winslow on "Guiding Light" and Ally Rescott on "Loving" and then "The City".

Laura had a GH storyline some years ago, where her son Michael was in a coma for a year. I was glued to the TV every day to watch this storyline, just her talking to her non-responsive son. Pretty soon after that, she won an Emmy. She is the queen of daytime, in my book.

What makes Caroline the best character on soaps is the evolution! Sarah, Tammy and Laura made her their own! The growth is amazing! The changes the Jackie Zeman goes through is equally amazing as judged by 3 totally different actresses. Well done ladies! Well done to michelle val jean and the wondrous writing team too. 😍😍😍

OMGosh Laura ... hearing the story about your mom has me with tears streaming down my face. I just lost my dad to his 3rd battle with cancer the day before Father's Day this year. I got to Florida (from TN) in enough time to invest nearly an entire week at his side in Hospice. Unfortunately, they put him in the deepest sleep (because his pain was so bad) that I never got to have one last conversation or any type of communication with him. One month later I lost my 50 yr old cousin to cancer. 2 months ago I lost my dear friend to COVID and not long after that lost my former mother-in-law too.
I can't say enough how important it is to give someone the gift of closure/release/validation before they die. It sounds like you gave that to your mom when you spoke to her about the journey of her legs. That was SUCH a beautiful tribute for her ... and what got me with tears streaming.
5 years ago I gave myself the branding of April 2.0. And after hearing you talk about where you were during your separation to where you are in your life now, I would consider you to now be Laura 2.0. Absolutely incredible and so glad you shared your story with us!!

I know that so many people love General Hospital and the people who portray our favorite characters, myself included. Lately though, i have seen a lot of awful comments on these actors/actresses social media pages where fans are taking things to a whole different level, almost to the point that I question if some people realize that it is only a television show and that the characters are not real. These actors/actresses are excellent at portraying the character but in reality, they are human beings with their own lives and families and they have real feelings. It’s one thing to tell your favorite actor/actress what an awesome job they are doing but it is an issue when people are constantly bad mouthing an actor/actress and spewing hatred on them as if they are really that character. I’m thankful To Maurice for creating this platform to talk about mental health and to share how these escalated fans are effecting these wonderful people. Nobody deserves to be hated on, not even those people who seem to be living in a delusion. I have many people in my life that are bipolar, schizophrenic, or have other mental health issues so I hope Maurice can touch on this topic and continue to be vocal about the harassment we are all seeing in social media. Thank you!

I’ve watched you,Laura, for years and had no idea you we’re going through a divorce my husband died at 46 years old the devastation is equal to a divorce. I cried a lot and joined a church and got a lot of hugs I lost my son last year and our church was closed due to Covid couldn’t even have a normal funeral it’s been a lot harder than I thought was possible I wish people would just mention his name ( Doug ). It’s like he never existed when you run into a friend who’s lost a spouse or child , bring up their name let them talk and listen! Even if they cry, it’s good for them to know you haven’t forgotten them

I love Laura Wright. I remember when it was announced in 2017 that she was divorced and at that time I was leaving a abusive, unhappy, narcissistic relationship. She spoke about leaving John at the time and it helped me leave mine too. Now hearing her speak, I realize I had the same issues, low self esteem, being desperate , wanting to be loved. I’m glad I got the help I needed to develop myself and love myself. Love u Laura.

I've watched state of mind since it started. I have an eating disorder severe anxiety and ptsd. Sonny is my favorite male character and Maurice is my hero for bringing awareness to suffering from mental illness. Carly is my favorite female character but had never gotten to see the real Laura. This was a gift. I grew up just like her. Be pretty, that's it. Tell me what to do especially if your a man because I don't know who I am . I have no sense of self. This led to abusive relationships in adulthood. I married very young and did have a nervous breakdown when I divorced. All the books and authors she discussed saved my life. Elizabeth Gilbert's eat pray love changed who I am. Your book changed my life, I think she should write one also. Thank you both for allowing those of us who love Sonny and Carly into the healing world of Maurice and Laura.

I had the exact same family, the same upbringing, there was never a focus on what I wanted or my dreams, the primary focus was on my looks. My dad would comment when I would gain a few lbs (I’m 5’7 120lbs), make up and heels started in 7th grade…just thank you! I cried too it was so telling and really amazing to hear Laura explain what she went through with her divorce from her ex, all the negativity she was trapped into in her mind and in her emotions because all of that "garbage" lead Laura into a much more seemingly positive road with all three of them (Laura, John, AND Wes) all interacting with one another and being able to get along with each other and be around each other. And then got more emotional when I heard Laura begin to talk about her parents, Maurice asked the right question here to here in this video to get people reeled in. And to get people to really LISTEN to what another person's major life experiences has impacted their life. It's a really BEAUTIFUL thing when I see people who were in a rut, but yet they made it as safe as can possibly be to the other side... Being a prisoner of and in your own mind, can be VERY daunting at times, but after the rain falls, sunshine will have to follow suit at some point, and it WILL... until the NEXT day that it rains. (But then, the Sun, again...)

I was in tears during this episide... for the reason that so many things you have went through, I've went through. Laura you are so real and genuine. I appreciate you being so open and for Maurice having you in the show. I went through the same thing with my first and second divorce. I had no idea who I was. I too, thought I needed to look and be a certain way to have a man. My daughter was young and I needed to make a change. I found my person through my third marriage. Then the deaths. My grandma, grandpa and dad passed, and I was there. Funeral home. Have to put together everything. You do have to be an actor for the most part to get through the shit. You have to go through it. This was a beautiful episode. You two are some of my favorites on GH and this is why. The real life things you all share. The good the bad and the ugly. You are funny and beautifully amazing. I connected to this so much. Thank you

When Laura was talking about her experiences with her parents passing away, I started to cry because it brought me back to when my In Laws were sick and passed away. The tears came easier to me this time, though, because in the moment I told myself that I had to be strong for my husband and his siblings. It's always how I am. I put off my feelings for later and deal with them alone so that I can be the strong, supportive one for everyone else. I could really relate to Laura in that regard, I was thinking as she said it, "Yeah, I'm like that, too."

I’m 29, I’ve been watching GH literally my whole life with my mom and she’s watched it religiously ever since she was a teenager with my grandmother. General Hospital is such a huge part of lives and we never miss an episode. Just like Laura said, we often yell at the tv characters (for good and bad things) and cheer and clap as well. We’re very passionate haha. Thank you for giving us something to look forward every day for all these years. I know you all work extremely hard and it truly shows. I’m an empath and I think about all the work that you do and I get stressed out just thinking about all the lines you have to memorize and long hours being on set and I think to myself “I really hope they get some time off to enjoy a vacation” 😂💜
