I love these. As I've said before, as someone who's watched the show since 1977, I'd combined so many 80s casts in my memory it's weird to see the actual chronology. I could've sworn so many people were all cast members together when they were years apart.

The Continental is such a remarkable sketch because it's the only sketch I can think of where the host is up there all by themselves, with absolutely no help from the cast. The fact that they even tried it is amazing, let alone that Walken pulls it off each and every time.

This was such a great season, definitely one of the 5 best ever. Unfortunately the departure of Nora Dunn meant that we wouldn't see The Sweeney Sisters again, save for a couple of specials later on. That was always one of my favorite all-time skits. It was funnier than fuck.
Hey did anybody else get the unintentional irony of Robert Wagner hosting just a few weeks before Christopher Walken would do the same? Both were in the boat with Natalie Wood on the very last night of her life. (Also add to that Rob Lowe, whom later on would play the younger #2 to Dr. Evil in _Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me_ after Robert Wagner had played the older version in the first _Austin Powers_ film.)
This season had some of the greatest musical guests ever: Neil Young, Aerosmith and The Smithereens, among others. This was just an absolutely great season. Love your videos, guys!!!!

Robert Wagner inexplicably being permitted to age on camera gracefully never ceases to confound me. It’s like we don’t even mind he was in Austin Powers - even after they freaking killed him off in the first one, they brought him back for Spy Who Shagged Me. It’s unreal.

SNL from 1986-1990 was absolutely solid. A cast that had strong chemistry with a writing team that consistently delivered the goods.
1990-1995 era (for me) represented a period of diminishing returns. Every consecutive season got bogged down with a cast that was heaving under its own weight with the newer female cast members being sidelined in favour of the boys' club (David Spade, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Chris Farley) who took centre stage.

I don't understand for the life of me how Lorne Michaels allowed Pete Davidson two weeks off one of his seasons of SNL to film "The Suicide Squad", yet he made Jon Lovitz the movie or the show. Lovitz is not only so much more talented than Davidson, but Lovitz actually put in effort and looked like he wanted to be on SNL. It's a shame.

For a long time I'd been under the impression that when Pearl Jam appeared in 1993, their getting to play 3 songs was only the second time for that ever to happen for a musical guest after Aretha Franklin previously being afforded the same courtesy, but now obviously I can see from this video that Eric Clapton clearly also had that happen. So I guess the "3 songs" bit was a bit more common than I'd thought

Does anyone have, say, a complete set of VHS recordings of live east coast episodes of SNL?
