HAVE A GREAT DAY
#heyman
A chippy tea used to be a nice cheap treat. Chip butty with peas and a can of pop would cost 2-3 pounds. The same order in my local chippy right now is over a fiver easily. A fish costs 9£ on its own.
As a kid we'd get fish & chips once a week, nowadays it's closer to every few months. There's a lot more variety (that's less greasy as well) in takeaways these days
Hey guys, so I had a little bit of a scheduling conflict so I decided to grab my phone and talk about something that I’ve been asked quite a few times. What’s the video? Let me know what you think, are more or less people going for fish and chips? How do you explain the perceived lack of popularity of one of the U.K.’s most popular takeaway?
Prices are an issue, a chippy is expensive to what it was. The other thing is delivery, as soon as you're getting something in there's so much more to chose from
Coming from a Catholic family Fish & Chips was a Friday night staple pretty much! These days I don't think many even practicing Catholics stick to the "fish only" and no meat Fridays! I guess this must have had a pretty big impact on Chippies.... also so far far more choice these days!
The prices in some areas are ridiculous, and depending on the location you'll find less of them depending on the demographic of it
Friday was fish and chips day, even in a Asian home. But this younger age group don’t know about this, the chicken shop has taken that role now. It cheap and more assessable to the working class, where the cost of fish and chips have priced itself out of
Completely agree Ali, chippies have gone a bit under the radar but it doesn’t mean they’re forgotten. A great halal one in NW is in Bolton - Reel Fish & Chips and it’s 👌
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
get Fish and Chips once a week! Best meal in the UK.
Have to fancy a fish and chips. Great video . Good topic. Food podcast coming????
It’s a very good point you made throughout the video about fish and chip shops. I am not sure about the market up north but here in London in my area there is a lot of halal Turkish or chicken and chip shops which do typical Turkish or the lahmagun shawma etc. I feel like it’s competition like you said but also distance too and that chicken shops are more popular in the capital compared to fish and chips and I like both of them, but fish and chips is a bit more out of the way compared to a chicken or kebab and pizza shop. Need more of these videos
Interesting video but it does show some poor trends as more and more takeaways go for high turnover low cost pizza and kebabs plus plenty of second rate Chinese. It gives me great joy to walk into a lovely well managed chippy that cares about what it serves and is spotless and clean. Fish and chips should be protected!!!
I think most places are concentrating on other foods like tikka, doner, etc rather than the classic fish and chips. Also the price of certain fish has gone sky high to buy from wholesalers and it's not cost effective for them. Also shops now doing meal boxes with a few different items aswell. Honest as always heyman.
Did you try Charle fish bar in aston birmingham b6 ?
You have to try Rabz Chippy in Helmeshore! And if you ever make it there you may as well do a video for Bumbas Grill too. Another chippy to try is Banny's in Burnley
Price is a big factor and the only factor. If I can have fish and chips atleast 3 times a week I would but unfortunately I just can't afford it nowadays. P.s. Morrison's does a really good F &C especially the small heath Birmingham branch which not many people know about and now maybe they will😊
Im sure there are some amazing chippies out there , especially up North.
British oh yes, good fish and chips hard too find unfortunately, but when there nice what a meal
Love Fish and Chips but it’s difficult to get it ‘halal’ especially if you live in an area thats not densely asian like the big cities.
