Lee Health is a nationally recognized, award-winning health system in Southwest Florida. We are caring people, inspiring health.
The signs can be subtle and easily ignored. “Everyone is forgetful, but you have to watch for patterns-that’s the major thing,” said Dr. Simon Grinshteyn, a hospitalist with Lee Health.
Consistent forgetfulness may be more than just old age. “When they start declining, it’s not old age it may be first signs of dementia,” said Dr. Grinshteyn.
Dementia is a general term for cognitive decline. One of the first signs to notice--is if patients start forgetting the names of loved ones. “People that are staying up or they’re getting up and wandering around at night. That is a big first clue that something is wrong,” he said.
Patients in the early stages of dementia will often experience insomnia. They will also be thrown off by a change in their routine. “Any change in a routine can throw a person with dementia into a tailspin where they deteriorate,” said Dr. Grinshteyn.
Patients who smoke, have uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension, and who have a limited education are at a higher risk for developing dementia. “We need to rule out other things first. Sometimes vitamin deficiency such as B12 can cause a dementia type patient, sometimes thyroid function when it’s off. So we do testing beforehand, before we come up with this diagnosis. We even do scans of the brain,” he said.
If there’s a family history of dementia, it’s important to talk to your doctor about any concerns. An early diagnosis can help families understand and plan for the future.
Whatever you do don’t let your loved one run for high office when the onset of obvious symptoms arise.

I think my President has this...
I don't think he has dementia. But I do feel his old age is the cause for most if his speech and hearing problems. I feel like there should be an maximum age set for president, a minimum already exists and it's to make sure candidates are mature enough, and had plenty of time to develop. It's clear with Biden that he is not fully fit to be president, especially for the US. Probably hardest, and most criticised job in the world. You can do everything from and still be hated. Most people don't realize that if things go wrong in 2021 it's often because of a mistake from 4-8 years ago.
Asking for Joe
Biden
I was wondering about Biden too

This was great, been searching for "how do you make yourself remember things better" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Piyoren Incredible Prepotence - (do a google search ) ? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to boost your memory power minus the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
And here we are 3-4 years after these comments and Joe Biden's dementia is 100% obvious to even the densest of ppl.
I'm 29 and often forget things 10 seconds after I was told them

Chris cantaim maybe genetics? But your so young. I would do more research on your symptoms and how you feel. Most doctors won’t understand what you are feeling.

My husband has been diagnosed with dementia and me and my big family never noticed the warning signs 😢now hes in hospital in bed and being fed and given painkillers as he keeps screaming scrsming for help, i cant imagine a world without him 💔 😢😢
Hi morning star, how's your day going with you?
My mum had dementia for so long, l forget the times without this cruel disease
I have the cruel TBI my brain had stitches in it and my head when I was 17 try to get everyone that has been diagnosed with it to exercise and stimulate their senses ride in car and nature and music that head injury was in 1993 I have had more injuries to my head since then Im 44 or 45 i canat remember and IM not going t do the math,, I worked as long as I could I probably could still work at a nursing home as the nurses aid if I didnt have a bad back bone spurs digging into my spinal cord from my vertabras how ever you spill them I was born with the bone spurs but it took the wreck andthen more than 25 yrs for a doctor to tell me the truth that theres 3 in one spot and just 2 days or 2 weeks before my general doctor xrayed it right after I told him it feels like bone spur in my spinal cord pointed with my thumb he x rayed it looked at the paper then right dead in my eyes and he lied to me said nothing there. He also said I didnt have HIV so I better go to the health department or that clinic and pay 20 bucks or whatever so I can hear the truth. You know your body more than the doctors do... Sometimes you can push yourself to do more and sometimes you actually CAN DO MORE YOU CAN DO IT exercise saved me and reading read books helps learn about the body take a CNA class or something like that when you get bad news try to prove them wrong. Especially when you feel like they gave you a bad hand and it looks the worst DO IT JUST IN SPITE. I GOT HEP B AND C WHEN I WAS 24 MY LIVER WAS FAILING the doctors said call the family in she needs a new liver and shes not going to make it. I AM 44 OR 45 so its been 20 yrs and IM still going with some form of dementia oh and also IM standing ontop of my teadmill and I just found out I had been walking 35 minutes, Im glad cause my neck has sweat on it sometimes I forget to walk especially when the computer is on and Im typing ha ha Im serious but for reall its scary some times you gotta laugh and if you cant find someone that can

My 76 year old grandmother was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year
It can be really difficult and frustrating for all involved, but I’m hoping things turn around ❤
my grandpa has this he forgot me and grandma is awake late at night and texts me credit card information almost everday i keep calling her and asking her to stop but and she keeps saying shell stop but she keeps doing it. I am really worried and i love her so much please pray for her 👏
I had a similar experience with my husband - he called the police & told them that he was being held against his will. He subsequently became subject to a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard, and the care home had to take away his phone to avoid future problems. It’s a hateful disease, and I truly feel for you.
Chris Berry thank you im sorry about your husband.
Niferno God help them booth, amen.
Am I the only one that came here after the album of The Caretaker ?
I came here too, ah that was quite an experience!
Useful !!
i find it Fascinating that a limited education could be a Factor in getting Dementia ...
and how do they define limited education?
Everyone if you think your elderly relative has Dimentia you must put a tracker on their person so you can find them also steal their keys they cannot drive they get lost and no one can find them without a tracker! Be smart do it now!
Today I was played Mikado( a game where you have to pick up sticks)with my mom. And when we were counting the points and she kept for getting how many points a certain type of stick made. She asked the same question like 5 times. I was about to cry because my grandma passed away from dementia 2 years ago I really hope she dosen’t have it too.
My MIL keeps repeating questions dozens of times, so much worried for nothing, mood swings. We all feels like she’s on early signs 😢
I had a bad wreck and a traumatic brain injury in 1993 I wasnt suppose to leave the hospital but I did becAuse I was young but turned 18 in hospital what helps is recumbent bicyclle exercise helps the bad attitude I have been diagnosed with it some not s o long ago but
My father had a really bad car accident. His car flipped 3 times. He was apparently unhurt, but I'm sure he had some brain injury. His personality changed. He became mean and careless.
The cholinesterase inhibitors are one of the treatments for dementia
The Cholinesterase inhibitors work by boosting the chemical messages that has to do with memory and judgement.
Im 18 and i keep waking up confuse not knowing who I am but remember rightaway but remember what I did yesterday and the other day and have good memory but just struggle remembering myself and where I am and it get really scared
This video made me sad because my grandma has dementia and my mom asked who we were and it took her a while to answer😢 she also has been shaking a lot and even thought her room is right by the kitchen she has trouble getting to the kitchen without almost falling😢

Death is more dignified than that wretched disease and in such situations, both relief and salvation...
Im 17 and I forget things fast I mean so fast my family member is worried, but I have good memory of the past moments and I always feel nostalgic, and also im always repetitive like something I told im going to repeat again
Maybe try to go to the doctor,
But when you forget things. And they tell you again do you remember that they told you before? If not I would let it get checked
That's me ! 😃I'm not alone n thought I was then they say I'm not listening or not everything is about me n I never think it is !
Hi I'm 24 years old and this is the biggest thing of my life because just recently I keep on forgetting things and it's odd because my memory is my strength and never in my life would expect to make a lot of effort to memorize I don't really know what this is and I am very uneasy with this feeling in my brain please help me
@@kirkamorante5927how are you now man? Hope its been better...
I have adhd and I have those symptoms, brain fog, all that… it sucks. Stimulants help but I don’t want to take them due to long term affects and possible addiction, so I’m learning new ways to keep my brain organized.
damn, i got a few of these symptoms...im scared to death now....time for these doctor visits
No other choices but to strength-train regularly, eat as healthiest possible, take optimal supplementation and sleep well to reduce dementia odds.
i do not wander at night, i have b12 and a thyroid, good grief, i am too young
how old are you? start riding a exercise bike and read at the same time read a book or study something recumbment bikes are the best
I used to wonder at night and get lost in my car then I would walk and I was lost in the dead of winter then whenn I walked to a place and figured out where I was there was a bank it was night time and it was like 12 or 18 degrees outside and I had a broke foot.
oh I dont drive anymore either I wanted to sell my car but my family says that I might need it someday like Im going to get better actually think Im getting worse and worse
My dad is 68 and im starting to wonder. At first i noticed he was a little forgetful would confuse thing . eg i was going to buy a fast food meal and i asked him what he wanted then when i returned he would say i didnt ask for that one.. And i would argue yes you did.. So like a year later. Ive noticed a big shift in his personality. Hes also a manic depressant so wild moods are quite the norm for us. Been on meds for decades. Hes got to the point where he wont leave the house. He watches tv all day and night. I came over for a visit and he barely spoke to me, and tv seemed more important. Now going by this video stopping routine can throw them off. Im wondering if it sounds like he may have it? His grandfather had dementia as well.
Also my mum just messaged me that he went to pump up a tire and blew it up. Its not normal for him.
Hi Kelly, how's your day going with you?
I'm 35. N I'm facing lot of short term memory loss.
Are you okay? :(
@@ghost_emre_a7710 yea..I have memory loss sometimes.
I'm genuinely curious, how does limited education factor into this?
me too...
I’m 14 about to turn 15 , I often forget things , my sister started worrying something is wrong with me , since I often forget and twist things she said, I put my shirts and clothing somewhere and come back to find them somewhere else, I forget names often, I forget to do daily tasks, I forget to do tasks I get assigned to. What I’m trying to say is , what is wrong with me?
Mabey you have adhd go to a real doctor and talk to them 100% what’s going on thery are a doctor and here to help I forget things too (17) and I don’t have adhd or anything else it’s just the way I am practice a sport or physical activity and like I said earlier go to a doctor
Sprintthekid I can’t go to the doctor since my family isn’t taking me serious and well I don’t think I have adhd my memory is just oddly bad i never had problems with it at childhood

Limited education? Lmfao, what the hell does that have to do with dementia?

in Canada, there are people as young as 5 that have dementia, so common that in is a normal illness. gets treated with anti-opiates and fasting. if it gets worse they are confirmed. go with no breakfast, lunch, or dinner for 27 days out of every month for 8 months... see they's got the dementia. got a degree in physiology, but got fired for shitty work at diagnosis of problems with previous patients, then come to Canada no one gives a shit and the government doesn't do back checks.
