    Well, that looked a lot easier than I thought it would be! I'll give that a go, thank you for the very clear tutorial.

    Thanks for this info, but I have a question. If shirring a top of a skirt, would you shirr the panels first, then sew up the side seams, or sew up seams first, then shirr?

    • @studiocarolinashearer
      @studiocarolinashearer  6 місяців тому +1

      Always shirr the panels first and lock the shirring in the side seams, this will give the nicest finish and will ensure that the shirring doesn't unravel with time. 🙂

    how do you sew the back zipper with the shirring? can you make a tutorial please

      Hello! Thank you for your comment 🤗 In my sewing tutorial for my Adore dress pattern I attach an invisible zipper to the shirring, you can watch it here at time 33:23: ua-cam.com/video/Pzlz9ChunqM/v-deo.htmlsi=Mw8ek42V1HDJAjeb . I am also currently working on another sewing pattern/video tutorial on how to attach the zipper sandwiched between two layers of shirred fabric that will be up on my channel in the near future 🫶

    Could you share how to replace the shirring when it has pulled out? I have an old sun dress that I love, but the shirring threads have one by one pulled out. I am a beginner sewist. I tried following these directions, but since the dress is already constructed and I’m trying to replace only the shirring, I’m thinking there must be something extra in order to make it work. My first attempt was a dismal failure.

      Hello 🙂You'll have to remove the shirred panel completely from the dress, then shirr it following the tutorial and then sew it back into the dress. Achieving nice results by shirring a piece that's already attached to a garment is nearly impossible because of the pulling the elastic thread causes on the fabric. Once the panel is removed from the dress the sewing procedure is the same as in the tutorial though! 🙌

    Is a gathering presser foot necessary for this? Also when you wind the bobbin you DO tug the elastic just a little bit or you DONT?

    • @studiocarolinashearer
      @studiocarolinashearer  7 місяців тому

      No need for a gathering foot, I use my standard presser foot! And wind the thread with a gentle tug, but you don’t want it tightly wound around the bobbin. The more you do it you’ll get the feel for the tension🙌😊

    How much extra fabric is needed to add shirting to a dress or top?

    • @studiocarolinashearer
      @studiocarolinashearer  6 місяців тому

      This depends a lot on the design you are doing, there's no magic number. For example will the shirred piece need to be passed over the hips or shoulders when getting dressed? Or will there be a zipper or other opening method anywhere within the shirred pieces? Typically the fabric will shrink 40-50% but different fabric will give different results! Light weight fabrics will shrink more than heavier weight for example. And if you want to replace a zipper or another opening method of a garment your piece needs to be at least large enough to pull over your shoulders or hips when stretched out to the max. Best way to figure out the right measurements for your specific fabric and project is to do a test piece🙂

    Pls do you sew on right face or wrong facing?

    • @studiocarolinashearer
      @studiocarolinashearer  6 місяців тому +1

      You sew on the right side of the fabric 🙂The elastic thread is the under thread and it needs to be on the wrong side of the fabric 🙌

    Can you make a video where you show how to sew this into the dress?

      I already have one! It's in my Adore Dress tutorial and you can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/Pzlz9ChunqM/v-deo.htmlsi=4Mh2hIu7XrENy1RF&t=461 😊

    what tension should be used?

    • @studiocarolinashearer
      @studiocarolinashearer  8 місяців тому +1

      It depends a bit on your machine! I don’t change my tension at all, so I suggest try it first with whatever tension you normally sew with and if that doesn’t look/feel right try to loosen or tighten it a little bit until you get the desired results 😊
