I love to watch this type of videos; where you take an older vehicle and change all necessary parts to get it back on the road safe and reliable. One thing I would've done differently was to pressure wash the engine/engine bay before I even started sticking my head in there, all and all, great video!!!
Nice build. Way to use the old noodle. Another benefit to this set up is Less money for tolls. Up here in the north east they like to charge for every bridge, tunnel or highway and it usually consist of Per axle as far as how much, so now you are only 2 instead of 4. Nice...
Aw man, watching this makes me miss my 01, truck wasn’t perfect at anything but she just went and went. Must’ve done 100 trips Wa to Az pulling 5th wheels for snowbirds and hauled everything in between. She was a dually too but a 4wheeler. It was really a great truck. Keep fresh batts and clean oil in em. And they’ll bring you places.
I had my late 99 F350 crewcab short bed 4x4 Lariat 7.3 for 21 years. It was my only driver. It was used on a ranch for the first few years of it's life. Then it was just used for towing after that. When I sold it, it was spotless and never saw a salted road so 0 rust or even a door ding. Tips for the new 7.3 owners. First change the oil more often then recomend. Heui systems is affected by poor oil condition. Second the ATS compressor housing is ported so don't get turbo surge under a heavy load up long grades. Third get an Air Dog. The air fuel separator will eliminate the erosion of injectors from the micro air bubbles in the sloshing fuel.
Oh one other thing. There's a mixer assembly in the fuel tank on the sender unit. They are known to split and suck air. There's a fix called "Hutch Mod". You'll want to take a peak at that. Your crack might not be bad enough to effect the way your truck is running.
Nice to see someone build on a budget. I have a disdain for YT channels where everything is "nothing but the best" (and the most expensive). Few build enthusiasts are lucky enough to be able to do that, most of us have to 'settle' for what we can afford.
Bad ass. My wife just this last weekend asked if we can do the same thing with our truck. Unfortunately we have a short bed f250. Nice work on the hauler.
Ford and those half years. When I build my front axle for my TJ I got a what I thought was a 77 F250 dana 44 but it turned out to be a 1977.5 which changes a lot of things but for the better. Like the shorter stub shafts which allowed for best of all, I could (and did) use the knuckles, spindal, and lockouts from a 1976 bronco to keep it 5 lug for now and for some reason the Yukon Chromos were about 100 cheaper than the non half year.
The balance is in relation to the shaft, not the housing. The housing is just marked so they have a reference when they are doing the balance procedure.
@ Bleepinjeep I got a Rancho 9000 airride setup on my 01 f350. If you ever get down to denver area, Ill swap you shocks. My truck just sits, dont ise anymore. Shocks have like 6 or 7 settings.
It's called a ramp truck? You can make it bigger, taller, and longer. Or buy one off finnigan. He has several But good build, and that's pretty light for a trail rig. If the snow is bad ditch the duals. Twice the surface area is great for rolling on a snow ball.
Can you say "catch can"? Do away with that nasty oil/fuel residue in the intake system. Even N/A engines get that oily residue in the intakes, due to back-pressure in the PCV system. The catch can alleviates that issue/problem by allowing the oil to condense, then "catching" that residue for later disposal. Helps keep your oil from acidifying, as well, because there is also gas residue coming from the crank case (blow-by) in the air that is being filtered by the catch can. Keeps your intake cleaner and makes your oil last longer - win, win!
Colt, as far as turbo balancing goes, the only 3 parts that are relevant to the "balance" is the compressor wheel, the shaft, and the exhaust turbine " the three parts that spin". Putting the compressor wheel back on has to be in the same relevant position to the shaft and the exhaust side turbine, has really nothing to do with the compressor housing. The marks you referenced on the compressor fin and the compressor housing, are put there in a correlative set of marks on the exhaust turbine and the exhaust housing for factory manufacturing reference, when they are reassembling the unit after balancing to ensure that the two wheels are in the same position related to one another.
Excellent video. Your explanations are clear and understandable. Please let us know how the new turbo is performing. Upgrade the front end to four wheel drive if you plan to keep the truck.
Trailers ..ugh. Don’t even get me started! Think I might adapt solid fork truck tires for my trailers tires. Sick of flats, when I have one. I literally just laugh and talk to it at this point
Are you planning on selling your other truck? Only asking because even though you can delete maintenance on the trailer you add maintenance for this truck. Love the idea and thoughts you have on your channel.
I love this thing! Might have to have you show me where to find those boot. I've got a 95' F-250 7.3 and found an E99 intercooler setup to add but boots are pretty spendy.
I'd trust that turbo about as much as a "Free Candy" sign on a white Econoline van... Plus a divorce mount NP205 and front axle swap gets you 4wd, easy.
Coming from someone who has lived through the GFC, Ford was flat-lining then, as a company, verge of utter collapse and then the government stepped in, exactly this moment when the truck was being constructed.
Nice work on the crawler hauler! I’ve always wanted to outfit a flatbed truck into a hauler but then I couldn’t haul my cars. I love ramp trucks but too long for my taste. How long is the total bed length of the new crawler hauler?
I love how he doesn’t want to maintain trailer so to simplify he buys an entire high mileage diesel truck he has to maintain. The trailer will be easier and cheaper to maintain for sure. Hahaha still a cool project if you don’t already own a tow vehicle and trailer.
Was searching for this comment. Absolutely agree. Plates, registration, insurance, 6 e rated truck tires instead of 4 any run of the mill trailer tire. Shit just doesn't add up
Would have been better off returning that turbo and ordering a rebuild kit. Then you would have a quality bearing and a quality intake wheel. Also I would use a $30 ipr or $30 icp. There’s a reason the motorcraft ones cost as much as the do. When the ipr goes bad, you’ll be stuck on the side of the road, when the icp goes bad you’ll be spray oil under the hood at up to 3500psi. Iv seen them lose a gallon of oil every 10 minutes. Makes for a long drive home and a couple hundred dollars of oil.
But isn’t a rear wheel drive dually still technically 4wd? Something to think about.. haha Awesome truck though, does this mean you’ll be visiting Tenn. with a rig more often??
Good shit Colt! I have an auction question was it sight unseen? im always afraid id buy one that has a grenaded drivetrain or has a giant issue rendering the savings worthless
As long as his flat bed isnt to heavy he should be good. Payload capacity for 99 f350 is 4400lbs. Take away the samurais weight that leaves 1700lbs for the flat bed and other cargo.
I feel it was. A good used trailer is still a few thousand dollars, then maintenance on that trailer(tires, wiring, brakes, boards, etc) all add up pretty fast in my neck of the woods.
@@LawF250 sure but just like he bought a budget truck, you could have bought a budget trailer. I paid $3300 for my 22ft gooseneck with a truck bed camper on the front. 12ft of open deck behind it. All I need is registration. Sure there’s the added cost if annual maintenance. But a brake job on my trailer cost less than the oil change for a 7.3. My tow rig is a 95 7.3 so Iv very experienced with this engine. So the truck route definitely won’t be the cheaper option. And a regular pick up wouldn’t have been my choice very for a build like this. For around the same price, you could get a obs f-superduty (basically an f450) with a steakbed-flat bed. 12ft-16ft long and most have a lift gate on them that can also add an extra 3 ft of bed length. And can still be used to haul a trailer or a camper. This f350 can no longer use a hitch because it’s behind the dovetail.
Looks sketchy with so much of the weight being levered behind the rear axle and appears to lighten the front axle, Still an interesting budget build project hope it works out for you.

Pretty nifty there colt! Good idea for guys with light weight buggies!
I would recommend a ts 6 tuner they are super cheap and totally change the performance of your 7.3 it was the best thing I’ve ever bought for mine

I hate maintaining a trailer. So i bought a high milage ford Diesel to replace it. Genius.
Many many miles later, Old Ford Diesel still chugging along and taking my junk all over the nation.......

No Jeeps were harmed, or featured, in the episode of BleepinJeep!
The last truck we turned into a Jeep didn't fair so well umongst the people🤪👍
This is neat and all, but I feel like you could have just bought a ramp truck. They tend not to be too expensive around where I'm at.
I like sir, great job
Thanks👍
Should have gone to power stoke help on the tubes they have turn key. Rebuilt Texas southern bulletproof trucks for sale.
It being a dually, its kind of a 4wd right?
That's what we said on the beach in the rauncho!🤣👍 it can run the 4wd sections because it's a dually.
Bet she does just fine being weighted down even though it's 2wd. If not, looks like a SAS project 😂
It hauls great, I'll see how the winter goes👍
Replace the IPR nut on backside of the HPOP, stick they have a crappy sheet metal nut that will come off and disable your truck
Ok, Should I change it out with a locknut?

99 f350 drop tank and replace fuel pickup filters. A lot of the 99s did not come with a cat
Good shit Colt! I have an auction question was it sight unseen? im always afraid id buy one that has a grenaded drivetrain or has a giant issue rendering the savings worthless
It was sight unseen but they have videos of it driving. They also had "approved" running vehicles and non-operational ones.
If you buy sight unseen, factor in the worse case scenario, and if that still fits your budget, go for it.
Hey guys I just became a member whats the best way to contact you
We do our best to check ALL our social media's regularly as we can.
Surprised it had a CAT. Neither of my 7.3 did. Your uppipes might be leaking anyways.
They weren't fortunately. Being a fleet truck they maintained it well just the drivers treated it like poo, haha.
What is the wheelbase of your Samurai?
110"
Good luck with the cheap ICP and IPR. They go out like nobodies business.
"No ramps required"
I'm betting the tail is gonna "wag"
I’m seeing a 4x4 swap and 6” lift in this old trucks future.
