You saying Mauritius doesn't have a claim on the Chagos islands doesn't make it so. There is a 2019 ICJ opinion that the island should be handed over to Mauritius , asking the UK to complete the transfer and " In 2021, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea confirmed for its jurisdiction that the UK has "no sovereignty over the Chagos Islands", and thus the islands should be handed back to Mauritius".
The attitude of so many, including the commentators in the program, as well, as those commenting suggests, that the UK doesn't really care for either international law or holding territory of others, the problem seems only if it's the Russians or the Chinese behaving similarly.

Mauritius has never had any jurisdiction over Chagos and is approx 2200km away (about the same distance as Lands End to Madiera) - the idea that the population of the Chagos Achipeligo should be summarily "given" to another country (and, as I understand it, without their consent) is beyond bizarre and smacks of the worst kind of "colonial" high-handedness, of the kind that labour activists sre all supposed to abhore .

to be apart of these islands. I understand that when the uk first took control of these islands Mauritius never
actually existed as a sovereign country. So they can’t take back something they never had at any time.

While Mauritius maintains good relationships with all countries, including China, to suggest that Mauritius and China are close allies is incorrect. Mauritius, with a predominantly Indian-origin population and a Hindu majority, has far closer ties to India. The majority of the Mauritian population are Indian in decent, and Mauritius is very closely aligned with India not China. Notably, it is widely known that India and China do not currently have a close relationship.
Geographically, Mauritius is approximately 2,000 km from the Chagos Islands, much closer than the UK, which is over 9,000 km away. Historically, in 1968, the British granted Mauritius independence only after coercing the country into ceding the Chagos Islands. Following this, the British forcibly evicted the native Chagossians at gunpoint to Mauritius, many of whom have since lived in poverty-a shameful chapter in British colonial history. The international courts and the United Nations have ruled that Britain's actions were wrong, and while some rulings may not be legally binding, the overwhelming consensus among the majority of the global community is that Mauritius has legitimate sovereignty over the Chagos Islands.
This business of using propaganda to justify territorial occupations or military actions based on unfounded claims. It is time to stop spreading false narratives-Mauritius is both geographically and historically closer to the Chagos Islands than the UK ever has been. Colonisation must be brought to an end.

The English people are too obedient and domesticated.
No one really understands the Chagos Islands issue here. The territory was inhabited by Mauritians from French descent who went there with slaves coming mostly from Africa. When British took possession of Mauritius it also took the Chagos Islands. When it gave independence to Mauritius it excluded the Chagos Islands and deported the people in an awful inhuman manner. These islands were always under the administration of Mauritius during British rule. Mauritians were administrators of the island. Britain took the Island leased it to US and gain enormous economical benefit out of it since the 1970s. Mauritius claim has always been there since negotiating independence but Britain put it as a condition that they retain Chagos as they already had plans with the US. The Chagos has always been considered as a Mauritius territory and inhabited by former slaves descent which were taken from Mauritius. Administered by Mauritians as no lord have ever set foot and stay on Chagos as they preferred the comfort of their British castles. The UN is not only Syria and Zimbabwe and putting this as we are only listening to them is not fair. Chagossians do want to go back although some were bribed with British passport and given home in Crawley. The British PM did justice to Mauritius and its a great decision.
