    Tip for drilling with the masonry bits - the carbide tips mostly break when they are coming out the back of the steel. You'll get rid of most breakages if you put a piece of scrap steel behind your piece so it doesn't break out.

      And don’t allow chattering. Drill press!

    • @Nworthholf

      Also, cool them. Carbide hates being overheated and becomes even more brittle.

      @@Nworthholfwhat's the difference with carbide flow drills, they can handle it because they only experience friction and don't do any actual cutting? (Not trying to be a smartass, I'm genuinely curious because I know there are many kinds of carbides but dont know the specifics)

    • @Nworthholf
      @Nworthholf Рік тому +3

      @@KibitoAkuya as far as I know - yes. It does not burn per se, so its alright as long as you dont slam it into other hard things (as you do with lathe and normal drilling bits).
      I never tried, but I would imagine that flow drill will happily crumble if you drop it on a cast iron plate or smth like that

    I literally had to create a channel to comment this, but I wanted to leave my piece here Eli.
    I started watching you a long time ago in middle school, on a different account that's long gone. You were my first build youtuber. You've been a channel that I've continuously come back to for years and will continue to do so. While I'm sure there are things we disagree with, you've shown yourself to be a hard working and stand-up guy which is something I've respected for a long time. Your content always inspires me to get off my ass and do more, and I genuinely appreciate that you've kept me entertained and educated for probably the better part of a decade now. Thank you for your content, and I'm so glad to come back and see you doing better every time. I can't wait to see the daddy of all ballistas!

    I am subscribed to a lot of channels and often can't be bothered to keep up with uploads, especially on long videos. ZNA has been the only channel to survive that curse, for a channel that isn't directly focused on comedy the genuine laughs I get from Eli's delivery makes me forget that this is a crafting channel, and in some near unexplainable way the icing on the cake is that I'm essentially watching the same video for the 5th time in a row (not counting).
    It's not just yet another crossbow video by ZNA. I'm watching the half yearly documented video logs of an absolute madman who is not content to rest on his laurels, to merely accept his DIY crossbow as being "just a little cool". Eli is spiralling down the rabbit hole of re-inventing the wheel until he forgets what a circle looks like. I expect the next fallout game will have us descover a unique crossbow weapon and templar armor next to a terminal full of ZNA videologs.

    One of the 1960`s Popular Mechanics book had plans for a leaf spring crossbow in it. I had the book when I was a child in the 1970`s and 80`s.

    I've been doing metal fab for years and I'm shocked at how few people think about their health in this field.
    Engineered protection should always be used first, followed by the use of PPE for your lungs, eyes and hands. Seems that most metal workers don't think about their lungs, especially.
    Glad you talked about it in this video.
