I have a Gilera Fuoco 500 ( made by Piaggio) - it is fast and stable. So far I have not had any mechanical problems at all. It is an ideal touring machine. Anyone who thinks its a girls' bike has obviously never ridden one.
I ride a yourban, and I'm an experienced rider who prefers all the thrill of a bike but safer, so this is perfect for many like myself. But car drivers with no riding experience will struggle. Its essentially a bike that needs to be handled like a bike.
why do u need ABS on a scooter? You wont even be going that fast, or hopefully not riding in bad weather. ABS will simply add to the cost without adding anything beneficial.
I owned a Piaggio MP3 400 for a short period of time. I bought it for my wife hoping she would get the bug and we could ride together. She never did and the bike was sold. In Australia where I live you need a bike licence to ride the 400 or the Gilera 500 so I assume you need a bike licence to ride this one as well. The appeal of the bigger scooters is that they are meant for touring as well as the daily commute. I reckon the 300 is probably ok for the commuting if there is some motorway riding involved but I don't think it would be suited to a long day of touring. I say this because I feel it probably doesn't have enough power. Although I rode the 400 I owned several times to my work (100kms each way) and it could sit at the national speed limit of 110km/h I had a chance to ride the 500 once and it had more grunt. I have a Suzuki Burgman 650 AN Executive and I feel this is a good benchmark for other "maxi" scooters. I also think the stupid and ineffective sports screen will be useless at high speed on the highway. I assume you can get a bigger after market Givi screen but that adds a cost. All of that said there is no doubt the two wheels up front is a great idea making the bike safer in wet, slippery or uneven road conditions. A rider might need a few practice sessions to get used to the locking mechanism or if you're an experienced rider you might decide not to use it. It's a great idea for leaners and those who might have a problem holding up a bigger bike.
Anybody know how to get the rear tire unlocked ? Thought it was because of a dead battery, but that's been replaced and still cant get rear wheel unlocked
Here in Chicago, $9100 plus 10% sales tax (VAT or MWST) and state license plates, title, etc = $10,500 for a 250 CC Piaggio MP3. You would need a state M motorcycle license, since it's over 150 CC, here in the U S. I got my driver license in Frankfurt am Main and M license in Chicago !
