Just a note in Ireland. Halloween is a big deal, more commercialised cause of America but celebrated since pagan times. Trick N treat is very American, but we used to go souling as kids in our cardboard homemade masks and black plastic bags 😂 it was more about the bonfire and party

In New Jersey we call the night before Halloween “Mischief Night” when kids would also do petty crimes. When I was a kid other kids would roam around and soap ( write words with a bar of soap) car windows and put toilet paper into trees and sometimes throw eggs at houses. ( and though “petty” , try getting dried egg and soap off of things, if isn’t easy). Kids whose parents wouldn’t let them do that (like mine) would stay out and hide to protect our property. Nowadays I doubt anyone gets away with that anymore. They have never heard of the name of that night and tradition here in New England.
