I'm curious about the GM-30 firmware. Did it fix the transmit on only preconfigured channel issue? (Not looking for it of band .. Just more tx channels.)
Hi, quick question understanding the radio already has set programmed GMRS, FRS, RPT and DIY. I'm attempting to set additional repeaters do I need to change both the CTCSS and TXTCS codes to hear and communicate on those channels for the UV15 GMRS radio. I was able to hear communication between others on certain channels frequencies but could not get a radio check from anyone. Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
You should be able to just set the tx ctcss code for repeaters. You CAN set a rx ctcss if you want to filter a specific repeater (and distinguish it from a second on the same frequency). However... Some repeaters don't transmit the tone.
That's true and hey I'm all for free stuff if someone wants to send it. But, I think it's only fair to followup and tell how you think it is after using it a while. Did it break after 2 weeks? If you had bought it did you get buyers regret 5 months in.... etc. Thanks for the comment!
I change the firmware to GM-30, and it works like a charm.

To access VFO hold the menu key for a few seconds.
I also put counterpoise.
In the past I haven't noticed much different in HTs with a counterpoise but I'll give that a try and do some testing.

What is inside the radio? Beken or RDA?
I'm not sure that it uses either, I've seen reference that it uses an Arm processor though. If you find out please commect back.
Thanks for the "review" most youtubers get a free product and do an infomercial for the company so they will get more free stuff.

Just figured out the VFO, it is there with a long press on the menu button - around 136-176 and 400-476. I've got a video update right now for that.
Here's my update on the VFO. ua-cam.com/video/G0FrDszRpro/v-deo.html
