    Smoked for 12 years from the age of 15. Today, it’s day 294 I’m smoke free. How I did it? Cold Turkey. If you’re watching this and desperately want to kick the habit, all I can say is you have to be ready for it. Mentally. 100%. I’ve tried and failed multiple times. So what was different this time? My intention was serious. It was a “I’m done with this and I am going to go the distance no matter how hard it gets.” I read Allen Carr’s book, I watched UA-cam videos on personal experiences, I weighed out all the pros and cons in mInd. Remember, there’s no magic pill to success but you definitely need the heart and mind of a champion to not cave in, you got this. 💪🏼

    A non smokers expert opinion will always look like this, it’s just an advice and this does never help a smokers. A smoker who has successfully quit would be a real motivation to the one who want to quit.

    My mum smoked...and died of lung cancer. These are just words, but seeing her die literally in front of me was shocking. I still smoked for 2 years aftrr she passed....but i stopped about 3 weeks ago, and am shocked when i step back and look at myself: that i have been a smoker for 20 years.
    I never thought my life would be like this; the shame i feel is unreal.

    "Science" blames every disease on smoking if a smoker has the disease. That way mortality figures can be inflated. At the first of this video "ruptured aortic aneurysm" is mentioned as caused by smoking. That condition runs in my nonsmoking family. It is a genetic condition unless a person smokes. Then it can be blamed on smoking. This sort of reasoning will dangerously skew medical knowledge as textbooks are re-written to express politics rather than science. Countries with socialised medicine like the UK are terrified that they are running out of other peoples' money & the system is going broke. They desperately blame anything and everything, hoping against hope that there will be a financial miracle to save an unsustainable system.

      Anna Morris I've always thought that when they say " x amount of smokers will die from smoking related diseases " . Mouth cancer is a smoking related disease. Suppose 20% of people are smokers, and suppose 10% of people get mouth cancer. Also suppose smoking increases mouth cancer probability by 50%. That would mean 30% of mouth cancer victims are smokers. However... In this made up scenario a non smoker has an 8% chance of getting mouth cancer, meaning that 2.9% of mouth cancer victims are smokers and would've got it anyways. However the statistics would blame 100% of smoker's mouth cancer on smoking

    Quitting smoking is easy. I did it and never looked back. The key is to break the circle of the addiction by UNDERSTANDING its mechanism. Any substitution (with nicotine patches and the like) is TOTAL bullcrap - you just keep fuelling the addiction with the very substance you want to get off from. Also, making smoking more expensive will not do a thing. This will only make it look all the more attractive for someone who might take it up. After all, it must be great if they pay that much money for it, right? And the already addicted will always find a way.

      Thomas, you seem to have it all figured out so I'm not sure you care to listen but anyway. Every single quit is different for different people. Some people go through peak withdrawal 1 day after quitting, some 2, and some 3. Some people have NO symptoms and it's easy. Some have mild symptoms, and some people have a Very rough time. So it's really not fair to exclaim that quitting smoking is easy! Period!

    • @twi82wi
      @twi82wi 7 років тому +8

      Oh, I do care to listen. Even though smoking is not an issue for me anymore, I wish everybody would be deliberated from it.
      I like to put things a little provocatively - this way they might get attention. Quitting is easy if you have the right mind set. The withdrawal symptoms with smoking are really just a mild annoyance, and they only last for 2-3 weeks. What makes quitting hard is the illusion that you miss out by not smoking. That multiplies your cravings in your head. Once you realize that smoking never gave you ANYTHING, you have no desire to go back.
      Peace!

    Why aren't there free support groups like AA for smokers and for 90 days duration. We are left on our own and how many are successful, I would think not many. It's a narcotic addiction, we have to go through changes in our brains and physical habits. We should be able to talk about our failings concerning coping techniques.

    I'm in my late thirties and now start smoking pipe...after a lifetime of 'healthy' lifestyle. Why? I now have the disposable income to afford the little pleasures in life...and everybody dies.
    I had relatives who are very wealthy, live a healthy energetic (exercise, gym, etc) and died early from a lingering painful death by cancer...pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, prostate cancer...in addition to meningitis, dengue fever...died either very young or at their prime...very ironic.
    My point is we are not immortal. The sooner you accept that Death is coming for you, the better will you make this world a better place for all of us to live in while taking your time to enjoy its pleasures.

    Welp. Usual arguments, nothing new here.
    Still have to say I disagree with the prevention tactics - Try to make supply unattainable without curtailing demand? Yeah, that worked just great in the war on drugs, didn't it?
    Also, why does no one ever stop to ask if you would do this to other companies? I can't see a clinical, white, non-advertised McDonald's, can you? Yet I'm pretty sure that obesity in America is one of their largest problems.
    Why don't we start looking at *All* the reasons people start smoking, instead of just assuming that kids just do it because they think it makes them look cool, or through peer pressure? Like the link between smoking and mental health disorders - maybe people who have trouble with their brain chemicals find relief when they throw a little nicotine into the mix?
    Finally, I'd just like to add as a personal note, that my grandmother died of lung cancer when I was about 10, and I didn't start smoking till I was 18. Why? I was getting stressed out over exams (and life in general) so I decided to give it a try, and you know what? Turns out I like the taste of tobacco - they can't give you that in a patch.

    There is zero evidence that smoking kills you, only heightened 'possibilities'. I guarantee you, no death cert names cause of death as 'smoking'. Think about what supplements you might take to combat any 'possibilities'. Living in granite county in the UK is the so called second cause of lung cancer in the UK (Radon) and I would be more concerned about that in those areas. This is just a nice pharma back pocket deal to make money!

    I don't like publicity directed against a profession like the tobacco industrialist or grower without addressing themselves by telling us. If you disagree with what they do tell them, not us. Tell us if you disagree with what we do. So, how do you go about that? Do you tell each person that they must not smoke and tell them what to do instead? Are you telling others what to do? Beware, we have democracy! Plain packs? You don't know what you are talking about, plain packs violate our right to retain the fruits of our labour. Plain packs constitutes censorship of ideas and imagination. People who are enforcing plain packs onto those who created them should be ashamed of themselves and the same for anyone who supports state fascism. NO to state fascism, NO to smoking bans and NO to plain packs and uneven taxes!! And NO to fascist ideas like plain packs and smoking bans!

    His statistics are proven nonsense. Over 90% of successful quitters do so cold turkey. Less than 10% of successful quitters manage it using NRT products like gum, patches, e-cigarettes etc.
    Cold Turkey is a time and a statistically proven best way to quit. Experts with decades of smoking cessation experience will verify this. People like those who continue Allen Carr's message and Joel Spitzer etc..

    • @pratreddy90
      @pratreddy90 5 років тому +4

      Completely agree. Quitting using NRT products involves using willpower and doesn't change how you see smoking at all on a cognitive level. Quitting cold turkey is really the best way there is and has to involve changing your cognitive approach to cigarettes and what it gives you.
      I'm a physician that's smoked for over a decade. Cold turkey was the only way that finally worked for me after reading Allen Carr's book. When I tried to cut down gradually, there was always that 'one last' cigarette that never was the last one.

    great ideas, yet even with them implemented by the gov. it would still fall short. It's a gray area that has been created by the industry and promoted by our own "democratic" values, which imply that we are solely responsible for it all. Now, think about the billions of dollars the ciggaretes companies have invested and still are in adds, in research to manipulate young people, and even adults, especially ones in developping countries, yet it is our personal and individual responsability to fight against all of that ?! How much money has any gov. spent ever on resolving the effects of these kinds of "investments" ?

    It's not a good idea for us to make all of the treatments free. If a smoker can afford cigarettes, they can afford treatments while trying to stop. If they were serious about quitting, they would put their money towards the treatments. I also think it is important to not put cigarettes in the same category as cigars/pipe smoking. In moderation, the FDA has said pipes and cigars pose little to no risk (key word being moderation). When you refer to cigarette companies as "the tobacco industry", you are lumping every tobacco product into the same category. That will screw some amazing cigar/pipe tobacco companies. I enjoyed a cigar or a pipe here and there after I turned 18, and because of cigarettes and e-cigarettes, I got screwed with the age change to 21. I agree that cigarettes are addictive and kill people, but cigars/pipes do NOT. A talk like this needs to be more specific.
