- Indonesian street food tour of Surabaya - In this video, I will take you on an Indonesian street food adventure in Surabaya, East Java, which is one of the street food capitals of Indonesia.

To start our Indonesian street food tour of Surabaya, we went to a legendary spot to have the breakfast of the champions, spicy tuna, crab, and prawn skewers. It was to die for.
To continue our Indonesian street food tour of Surabaya, we had two of the most unique dishes in the city, Rujak Cingur and Rawon, the number one soup in the world.
Moving on with our Indonesian street food tour of Surabaya, we had some delicious and unique Satay, Sate Klopo.
To end our Indonesian street food tour of Surabaya, we went for an extreme and spicy dinner, Nasi Babat. Corn rice served with tripe, lungs, cow skin, eel, and super spicy chilli.

Rawon is a traditional Javanese dish from east java known for its rich and flavorful black beef soup. This dish is characterized by its dark color, which is achieved by using a special spice paste called "keluak" as one of the main ingredients. The broth is typically made with a blend of aromatic spices like garlic, shallots, ginger, and lemongrass, along with tamarind to provide a tangy kick.
Thinly sliced tender beef or occasionally, other meats like chicken or mutton, are simmered in this fragrant broth until they become tender and flavorful. Rawon is usually served with steamed rice and accompanied by various side dishes such as bean sprouts, boiled eggs, crispy shrimp krupuk, and sambal (spicy chili paste) to add different textures and flavors to the meal. It's a delightful and hearty Indonesian dish that offers a harmonious blend of savory, sour, and earthy flavors.
Keluak is actually poisonous. You cant eat it as it is. Thats why thumbs up for the peoples who can make a delicious rawon. They have great skills with this keluak. People who can make a delicious rawon is quite rare, even in indonesia.

Wow guys, what an amazing food tour you had! That soup looked incredible, we would love to try it, what a dish!! We have to say though the sate with coconut might be our favourite, but Chris would love to try the tripe at the end. Oh and the rujak with cows nose! Some very unique dishes in Surabaya, it's on our list of places to visit that's for sure!! Keep up the awesome work guys 💪😉

I grew up in 10 different cities in Indonesia. From my experience, whenever you hop on to other city or island in Indonesia, you will find a set of culinary delicacies, distinct from the other one. The fact that we're archipelagic nation, made that distinction more profound.
For instance, just for Indonesian soup alone:
Rawon and soto in Surabaya; soto Bangkong in Semarang; soto Kadipiro in Jogja; soto Kudus in Kudus; soto Betawi in Jakarta; soto Padang/Garuda in Padang; Coto Makassar & Palu Basa in Makassar; and so on. The spices selection and ingredients make the variation (just for these soup) endless
Indonesia is such an incredible country and I can’t wait to see more of it 🇮🇩❤️
