- So many great RPGs released for the Nintendo DS handheld, but a few lesser known and underrated RPGs went by largely unnoticed by some players. The moment I saw Beluga from "Solatorobo: Red The Hunter" featured in the thumbnail, I knew this video was worth watching, especially since it happens to be one of my all-time favorite games to play on the Nintendo DS. ^^
Finally magical star sign gets some love, it’s one of my favourites.

Another great list! My two personal favorites on the system is Solatorobo and Radiant Historia. Two DS RPG I've always been interested in seeing but hardly find any info on is Sands of Destruction and Nostalgia. Have you ever heard of/played these ones?

I actually tried to get into Nostalgia a while ago. It's a good-looking game but something about the story threw me off. I might give it a second chance at some point.
I found Nostalgia very genic. Sands of destruction i've played a little bit but i've liked it so far really cool game with a very interesting combat system

Glory of Heracles, Master of the Monster Lair and Suikoden Tierkreis (and maybe a few more I’m forgetting) were three obscure DS rpgs of my childhood I get really nostalgic for.
This is a great list, although I would personally replace Disgaea with Nostalgia, a great RPG that features turn based combat and sky ship battles (almost like Skies of Arcadia). Nothing against Disgaea, but hard to call it underrated when its such a huge series.
I just start Disgaea but alr confuse with the gameplay. So many multiple end. Its like choose your own story (after read some walkthrough). So i put it down atm. Is it really good?

Nostalgia is not a great game.
It's also the case with 'Magical Starsign' and 'Fantasy Star 0', shown on this vid.
There are not bad games at all, but they are boring and with too much negative to really enjoy (if you did not grow up playing them).
God I wish Solatorobo had an anime. It’s a shame that it never got any big advertising outside of Japan. Such a beautiful world and story deserves more recognition.
I totally agree with you on such a topic, and I really wish there were more JRPGs featuring characters that are anthropomorphic animals instead of humans.
They aren't underrated they have his own public, isn't big as others but have his lovers pretty much like The World Ends With You

Yeah your right i just started playing nostalgia in my ds.....
Some magic attacks can cap out damage at 9999 when boosted by alignment and is timed perfectly.
Gotta save this video so I can download some of these games later, right now am playing Archaic Sealed Heat and Contact, pretty good games in my opinion.

1:21 Literally Project X zone before that game came to be.
It was made by the same team and features similar characters.
Not to mention Namco X Capcom which was also made by the same team and came before both of these
Super Robot Taisen OG Saga is SOOOO much fun! I wish the sequel came out to the West.

@@thatvideogamesshow If you love it. give project X zone on 3ds a go, its literally same combat system and from video i assume some characters are even there. Its big crossover of capcom characters.
Man so many memories of how the good these games and the DS is. Awesome list dude! I cant argue with anything in this list. This might be the first time I had 100% agreed on a list ever. Any thoughts for a sequel to this video?

I love Radiant Historia! Got the DS version but was not able to finish it because my DS broke. Bought the 3DS version when it came out though and finished that one. Loved the enhanced graphics on that version 😁

Sands of destruction is underrated
Fossil Fighters is also really interesting

Disgaea is a brilliant game with randomly generated levels(Item World) which will have you using a pen and paper to solve the random geo panel puzzles(optional) while still engaged in combat. The court system is also an original concept that will have you attempting to bribe senators to get your way, or opting to go full combat against the entire court when your request is rejected.
the only issue i've found is the story is extremely mature and probably shouldn't have been ported to a device popular for children and teens
Phantasy Star Zero my favorite one, there is still a very good comnity playing this game, we are in a discord group with 470+ members :D

Thank you for answering a question! I've been playing Project X Zone and didn't know what series the cowboy and the android that fires the plasma beam out of her chest came from.
The Android is from XenoSaga games on Ps2 the cowboy might be an original character for the game. The two main characters in the sequel do not belong in any other games.

I don't know that I would generally consider Disgaea 1, Phantasy Star 0, or Radiant Historian would be considered "underrated," per se.
I think making DS videos in portrait mode instead of landscape is a great idea.

I've always wanted to play Magical Starsign. Even after I found out it was just okay or average, it seems like a fun game.
It is fun but the battle system takes getting used to ana the boss can tune the stare signs to there faver.
Really good RPG, especially the battling system!
Dragon Quest 8 was the first time the series went to 3D and was released in 2004.

Good list. I've heard wizard of oz is a paint to control since you need to use the stylus to move is that a problem in your eyes or did you get used to it?
Yeah it uses a green ball on the bottom screen to move Dorothy. At first it can be a bit tricky but after sometime with it, it soon becomes easy enough like.
i hate unnecessary forced touch controls. if they wanna give you the option then fine, but there's no reason not to add basic controls that easily could have been added. like the 2 zelda games and star fox on ds, there are fan made patches that allow you to use standard controls, so there's no reason nintendo shouldn't have added it themselves in those games.
I did always really enjoy phantasy star 0, underrated
I wanted to get Avalon Code, but it’s so expensive. I wish it’d gotten a 3DS port.
Just play on your phone with drastic emulator and free download rom

As a UK resident, I find it interesting that your lists are so NA/JP-Centric. So many of your lists where over 50% of titles weren't released physically in PAL territories. Is this something you noticed?

Sola to robo is such a good game. you can easily undersatnd the story and it has easy controls...

@@playstationtwo877 It's kind of a long game, since there are two stories to complete, but it's still worth checking out, especially with the game's cast of appealing characters and surprisingly deep storyline.

I'd love to give super robot taisen a play, but not for the current $200 price tag.
I could not get over the constant onslaught of boob jokes in Super Robot Taisen. I really tried, I have Namco X Capcom on my PS2 and I love Xenosaga, I really... REALLY tried to enjoy SRT... I just could not after about 3 hours haha. It was seriously every other sentence.
The only RPG I really played on the DS was Orcs and Elves from id, which made the Doom series. I was hoping that Doom RPG would end up on the DS, but that sadly never happened.
ID made tons of games on Doom RPG Engine on java phones. I went back, downloaded java emu on my phone and gave some of these old games another spin. Enjoyed. There were. Wolfenstein 1+2. Doom 1+2 and orcs and elves 1+2 and probably more.

3ds remake really looks great. Also from what i saw in video, its not so much zoomed in. You can see whole battlefield on 3ds.

Totally agree. Boring one-dimensional characters, long-winded story with expositional cutscenes that drag on and on, uninspired locations, tons of backtracking, repetitive and gimmicky gameplay, few and recycled enemy designs, economy is completely unbalanced, time travel mechanic not used to the fullest (especially compared to games like chrono trigger), which leads to a murky and confusing plot toward the latter third of the game.
It’s completely overrated, you aren’t missing anything.
