I just start collecting DS games and have on wishlist also Lufia, Nostalgia, Black Sigil, Sands of Destruction, Golden Sun, Infinite space, Avalon Code, Children of Mana :D. Great List
I would like to mention Zubo, it is surprisingly good, really enjoyed it back in the day, with its musical battle system. Not a top tier RPG maybe, because it is easy and a bit short, but it is a really fun RPG with some funny moments as well.
I've been picking up some DS RPGs since I never had a DS before, but the games I picked up weren't on your list: Infinite Space, DQ IV, V, IX and Golden Sun Dark Dawn. Super Robot Taisen looks good, I might pick that up next.
Radiant Historia is one of the best RPG Ever, and one to do time trave right. Many time travel games, when you go to an era, do an event and leave, if you return, you will always after this event was done. Even though you can visit different timelines, those timelines are always linear. On Radiant Historia you can return to any key point in the timeline and redo the events differently (sometimes being required to do so), if you kill a boss, and later return to a point before the boss was there, the boss will be there again. My top five is totally the same games as yours, though with a bit different ordering. (SMT:SJ on 2nd, DS2 above DS), and with VP on the 6th.
Thank you! EO? You mean Etrian Odyssey? I now they're great games but I only played the first one and didn't like it; first person-dungeon crawlers with generic characters (generic as in you create them and they never talk) are just not my kind of games. I've recommended a few on this channel, sure, but I just can't get into the EO games.
I recently got SMT Strange Journey Redux and SMT Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker. I like them both better than SMT4 since that game didn't pull me in to mainline games (was my first main line SMT game). Between the two, I like DS2 over Strange Journey. I tend to play on the highest possible difficulty until I hit a point where I have to make things easier. Example: In FE Awakening, I played on Lunatic/classic difficulty until I got to chapter 16 where I couldn't continue anymore (had no guides either).
I find Valkyrie Profile Covenant Of The Plume to be the easiest SRPG to get into personally. The plume helped me in the sections I struggled in. I'm guessing you tried to go for the A ending first time... yeah that's just masochistic... but the good thing is that if you beat the game on the C path, you can start a new game+, carry over all of your gear and beat the A ending with no sweat. I really like how Covenant Of The Plume was so accessible to newcomers yet so ruthlessly brutal for people who wanted a challenge. No matter how good you are at SRPG's, you can get all 3 endings... but only real hardened veterans can get through the A path on their first playthrough. Plus you have the seraphic gate on top of that with even more content. Hands down my favourite DS JRPG.
I don't have the right equipment to do let's plays, sadly. My friend has it, though, but I really would like to get my own instead of borrowing his over and over again. I will some day, I like let's plays.
I gotta admit I'm nowhere close to being a JRPG expert, and in fact I'm not well versed in the genre, but Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is one of my all time favorite games period. Such a masterpiece on every level. The beautiful 2D graphics and colorful world, memorable Yoko Shimomura soundtrack with serious SMRPG vibes, the engaging timing based combat system and Bros. combination attacks, the storyline, dialogue, and humor overall, the wacky, gonzo atmosphere, playing as Bowser, exploring Bowser's body, and of course, my favorite video game villain, Fawful, with his broken English and unstable personality. I loved Superstar Saga on GBA (sadly never played Partners In Time), but Bowser's Inside Story upped the ante in every area. I can't believe how much quirky personality they crammed into this game. It's a game where I have a smile on my face the entire time every time I play it. It's just so fun!
Interesting video. I never owned a DS so I never got to play any of these. The only ones on this list I heard of were luminous arc and radiant historia and after watching this I’m inspired to go play radiant historia myself.
Suikoden Tierkreis, best game ever. Holy, didn't thought I´ll see this game on anyones list (Super Robot Taisen or Luminous Arc neither). Excellent list. Playing the hidden gems and non particulary popular games. Great.
@@gcgnatorcats6888 i hate it when they make games too easy with no higher difficulty options. that's my biggest complaint with ff7, it's so absurdly easy that if you're halfway decent the 2 optional weapon fights are about the only thing that can kill you, or maybe you can get confused and kill yourself. i'm playing ff4 on the ds right now and it actually feels quite challenging, far more than 7-9 anyhow. i havent made it too far yet though so it may become easier, idk.

I suggest you go much in depth inside rpgs games like doing videos about best final fantasy summoning, hardest rpg bosses, most difficult weapon to obtained in rpgs and best plot twist moments in rpg games. These ideas makes you become more informative as channel in UA-cam.
I actually never wanted to be an informative channel, all I want is to share my opinion, generate friendly discussions and show games no one talks about. Some people have found my channel to be very informative, and I greatly appreciate that, but really, it's not the point of it. Thanks anyway for the advice; those are some interesting topics to discuss one day in a video!
I think he's trying to recommend that you do top 10 lists of the most difficult weapons you personally tried to obtain and your personal top 10 hardest bosses and top 10 summoned creatures, not to be informative, but to do a top 10 on them.
Based on your taste in games, how many of your listed games on each console I already own, and your t short collection I feel like we'd probably get along fairly well in real life LOL.

Gameplay wise and gameplay wise.. gonna agree with covenant of plume it's a mix of love and hate.. hooo boooy strange journey i've clocked up 1 month i think just to finish it, grinding going back and forth and puking along the way.. woooohoooo radiant historia number 1 i love the combo sytem..
Thanks. I've been meaning to do a what the hell for the FF franchise but since it's an extremely huge franchise, it would therefore have to be an extremely huge video, haha. It'll take me a lot of time but I'll do it, eventually.
I haven't played the original, but checked the changes when I played the game. The character's designs have got worse imo, especially Eruca, but the game has many more features, a new story, which is quite interesting and gets you to a brand new ending and many more hours of gameplay, the battle system is more polished, support skills are introduced, the Vault of Time is introduced as well to get many collectables, the game has a new difficulty level that forces you to master the battle system and an easy mode as well if you wanna focus on the story... I don't know, knowing the features, I would play the 3DS version, and directly in Perfect Mode, in which the new story is included in the normal one.
Zach Neuneker - Both are good, but I believe the graphics has changed and some other small stuff that some fans were not happy about. I own both, and so far, they are still sealed. The remain as part of my every growing backlog of games.
Have you ever played Sands of Destruction? If so, what did you think of it? (I haven't played it yet, but got the impression that it was one of the better DS RPGs).
Suikoden: Tierkries is amazing. I'm surprised that nobody talks about its _themes,_ which come down to an excellent take on the philosophies of Fate vs. Free Will. "You never know until you try!" Will forever be one of my slogans.
For some reason, I just can't get myself to like strategy jrpg's. My loss, I guess. Coincidentally, I got myself a 3DS a week ago and I'm already planning on getting Dragon Quest IX, Suikoden Tierkreis and Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. And Final Fantasy III, Dragon Quest IV - VII, Children Of Mana, From The Abyss, Bravely Default & Second and The Alliance Alive.
@@kingoftherain Well Red and Morrie are now party members, there's a new side quest that deals with photos,no random battles, new monsters, new dungeons, new endings, quick save and skill points can now be saved. The Dragon Quest VII Remake had WAY more changes though and I'm still hoping that Dragon Quest X and XI will be released in the west on the 3DS.
Since I've never been a fan of Harvest Moon, I find it hard to get into the Rune Factory games, even though I know they're different. Would you recommend the 3rd one for starters?
@@ErickLandonRPG that's totally understandable since we have our own preference and yes, it's more of an rpg games with harvestmoon element than a harvestmoon game, you can play any games without playing the previous one since it has it's own story and characters, you can absolutely start with 3 or even 4. Have fun!
@@ErickLandonRPG I actually like Harvest Moon, but I think Rune Factory is different enough for you to get into it if you didn't like Harvest Moon series. I played Rune Factory 3 first then 4 afterwards. Only 2 RF games I've played. I love them even more than Harvest Moon. However, I think the dating system is handled a little better in Harvest Moon in regards to heart events and playing match maker, but aside from that, I can recommend Rune Factory over Harvest Moon. I suggest starting with 3 first before getting into 4. I think both games have their own unique charms and can stand on their own merit. I just slightly prefer the characters from 3 over 4, but only slightly.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, the difficulty of it lies on the fact that periodically when moving on the act, you need to grind your characters and acquire new and better demons, that's something I disliked about the game, even more since the rest of it is just a visual novel. If you didn't played it yet, you'll know what I'm talking about when you face your first boss fight, while being unprepared for it.
Maybe it's already known info, but I'd still like to point out if anyone was thrown off by the "North-American releases only" part, worry not cause DS games are universal and have no region lock
I notice you rarely mention music. But you did for devil survivor. I actually kinda hate it in that game, and I get so sick of the main battle music. Guess your taste in music is way different than mine (aka incorrect =p )
Not really, I'm into industrial, metal, gothic, post-punk mainly in English, and seeing how some music in the DS games is more oriented towards hip-hop kinda puts me off every now and then. But seriously, there's some really catchy tunes in that game that I ended up liking them, hahahaha. Shit happens.
@@ErickLandonRPG I like metal and classical mostly. I hate hip hop too. The genre of the music for devil survivor isn't the main issue with me though. But I find that Ys games cater to my metalhead, while devil survivor sounds more like edgy pop or something.

Covenant of the Plume is fantastic. It's not that hard if you just deal with the fact you need to shoot for the C ending on a fresh playthrough.
For me, The Nintendo DS is the best console of JRPGs
Its the ps1 for me.
Its da psvita
SNES for the magnum opus
no console has more jrpg's than the vita
More doesn't equal better.
I've been wanting to get into Atlus games for the DS/3DS. I played Riviera for my GBA; it's good. Can anyone recommend an accesible title from Atlus or one of similar style? Thanks! Informative, thought out channel.
Thank you!

Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Did you play Pokémon Conquest?
If you could put the names on the description it will really help, specially game like that robot RPG, I still don't remember it's name,
Does SMT: SG have an automap system?
loved suikoden tierkries, smt devil suvivor2 n radiant historia on nds.
Is suikoden teiktris worth playing?
That Legend of Mana intro is Lit 🔥.. good sir can you do what the hell happened to Final Fantasy? Gameplay wise and gameplay wise.. gonna agree with covenant of plume it's a mix of love and hate.. hooo boooy strange journey i've clocked up 1 month i think just to finish it, grinding going back and forth and puking along the way.. woooohoooo radiant historia number 1 i love the combo sytem..
Thanks. I've been meaning to do a what the hell for the FF franchise but since it's an extremely huge franchise, it would therefore have to be an extremely huge video, haha. It'll take me a lot of time but I'll do it, eventually.
Sweet can't wait for that, gonna be a lot of topic to talk about..
Xiaomu in the thumbnail reminded me of Dominion Tank Police.
I’m gonna stay with the DS versions for both Devil Survivor games, because the 3DS versions are double or even triple the DS versions.
best jrpg youtuber
For Radiant Historia, would anyone recommend the 3ds version over the original?
@@mazinrobox2546 Alright, i'll be sure to check it out, thanks!
Zach Neuneker - Both are good, but I believe the graphics has changed and some other small stuff that some fans were not happy about. I own both, and so far, they are still sealed. The remain as part of my every growing backlog of games.
Wish Solatorobo was on this list...
Any games like DQ 4? I have been addicted to it
I'm surprised that The World Ends With You wasn't a high tier contender.
It was for others, but not for me; I didn't really like that game =/
Have you ever played Sands of Destruction? If so, what did you think of it?
(I haven't played it yet, but got the impression that it was one of the better DS RPGs).
I did and if you check out the video I made 4 years ago, you'll actually see it there, haha.
Dragon Quest VIII is also on 3DS.
@@Chelaxim I know, but I've got that one on PS2 already.
Your accent man, What country are you from? I swear your accent sounds so familiar its on the tip of my tounge
He's from Deancappot
We have almost the exact same taste
:D
No Rune Factory series..? :(
The 3rd game on DS is awesome and the 4th one on 3DS is even better
I just slightly prefer the characters from 3 over 4, but only slightly.
i agree it's one on the hardest games in all of game history
This dude’s voice rules when he gets angry.
Sounds like a certain prince from Essos.
That's what I disliked about it too. BTW did you realize that the acronym is DS?
@@straightupanarg6226 Yeah. Beside, the thing they use to invoke demons and stuff is literally a Nintendo DS.
The world ends with you is my favorite jrpg on 3ds
I like you man, I need to buy you a beer for all the hours of crappy games you have saved me from!
No Gonden sun?
Valkyrie profile is very hard
Especially on easy difficulty
i Own #08 :)
Oh coo... Wait a minute, where is my TWEWY?
In your own top 10, maybe?
seriously only one honourable mention,lol
I'm looking for games like golden sun dark dawn
So, Golden Sun Dark Dawn isn't among the best?
I really liked Rune Factory 4.
that's great, but RF4 is not on the DS its a 3DS game..
@@iraymundcastro8632 Oooof you are right.I just never used the 3d part so I forgot about the difference.
I know it's "J"RPG but have you ever played Fighting Fantasy for Nintendo DS? It's the best DS game I played.
Nope, never heard of it. I'll look into it.
@@ErickLandonRPGPlease take a look. You won't regret.
rondo of swords is hard as fuck too, and did you know you can defeat all the bosses at the beginning of the game, yes you can beat lv 70 with lv1
Huh? How?
