An ombudsman is a person who investigates, reports on, and helps settle complaints, an individual usually affiliated with an organization or business who serves as an advocate for patients, consumers, employees, etc.
If you check process of passing a bill into law, at the committee stage the bill is discussed and scrutinized by a standing committee before it is sent back to the House for a third reading
Select committees are typically appointed to give a detailed scrutiny of a bill. They are formed as a temporary committee and consist of experts on the subject matter of the Bill who give their input and analysis and ensure that the bill is up to standard before it is passed into law. A standing committee, on the other hand, is a permanent committee that handles ongoing legislative matters and does not delve deeply into individual bills as select committees do.
