    in the US we have been using these for decades on our lakes, rivers, and coastal areas. they are the ultimate day/party boat and many people use them for camping.. been on boats like this my entire life and never, ever heard the terms "log" or "playpen".

    I have a Tri toon in Florida and it’s great for estuaries, intercoastal and the Gulf of Mexico on most days. There is a big difference between tritoons and two toons. The performance of tritoons are much more capable. Also one down side is passengers usually want sit in the front which will cause the bow to plow. The logs can’t overcome all that weight like a v hull boat can. You need to ask the passengers to sit so the weight in the back is the same in the front to maintain performance and comfortable ride.

    She reminds me of a platform on oil drums. She looks ungainly. But she can shift across the sea and doesn't seem to get Alex wet. He having fun.
    She did cope quite well with the sea, but I think I'd feel safer on estuaries, inland waterway.
    I feel while at sea very exposed to spray and wind. But she is a fun boat, solid dependable so for a day out you'll be safe, comfortable day trip. Interesting but not for me but i can see her appeal.

    I have a brother in North Carolina, they are very popular there. Great for kids and wake boarding and days out on the lake. He lives on a 35 mile long lake. Would I have one on the Solent? No way, but I am a sailor.

    My parents used to have a 2 log version, and besides all the deck space, the thing that made it different from other boats is it plows straight through small waves when you're underway, so it feels like the water is glassy smooth even when there's a little chop.

    Would make a good water taxi / small passenger ferry business in the right port / harbour.

      Great choice. I had a brilliant time with it, even in conditions for which it wasn't really designed. Really versatile and really comfortable. I sincerely hope UK boaters are open enough to try it out, cos I reckon they'd be pleasantly surprised.

  • @alexsmith3945
    @alexsmith3945 Місяць тому

    There's a broad split here between the American and British over the merits of the boat and that's only to be expected. Clearly, it's not a boat for exposed passages but if you're honest with yourself about how, when and where you're actually likely to go boating, I reckon most people would be surprised at how well the Regency can do the job. The real stumbling block is the fact that the image puts people off before they get anywhere near it - and like I say, that's a shame because its ability to provide versatile and sociable fun at a genuinely affordable price is tough to match elsewhere on the UK market.

    Well, I guess that shows it will handle more than a mill pond, but still I wouldnt take one out to sea. I can see they make a lot of sense as lake boats, especially where there are a lot of shallows to negotiate.

    Well Alex, it looks like you had a blast and might be mad enough to buy one. BUT I very much doubt there’s anyone else crazy enough in the UK!
    I know the US market love them, but I can’t stand the things.

    I see the point of these, however, never ever would I buy one, it’s such an ugly boat… 😂 Little to no seaworthiness, very little shadow, difficult to maneuver in windy conditions.

      They are a very popular family dayboat on lakes and rivers in US. Generally cheaper to buy and own, ton of room for friends. Tow kids on a tube, fish, hang out. And not on top of each other with friends

    • @dextersxxxxlab
      @dextersxxxxlab Місяць тому +1

      @@DogStar84 I know and also know there are very big ones more like a cabin with open roof decks and stuff. There has been a few years those they started to appear here in the netherlands too. But not so much anymore since most of the time our weather is not good enough for these. Too much wind and lower temperatures. For some people this will be perfect and that is fine. But for me, a big NO. I love boat schapes and fiberglass hulls and these have nothing to do with that.
