Can't stop cold turkey so couldn't be drinking that much probably just s****y beer and people have problems which makes drinking a form of escape.

The part about you not liking the woman you were with is great. I believe there's a country song that says, 'you're not as much fun since I quit drinking'.
I'm 70 Y.O. and drink daily. Hangovers depend on if I drink enough water before going nighty night. My father said 'drinking is an old mans comfort' and 'it's the manna of the gods'. He always brought me a bottle of JD when visiting me in collage. He was a damn good dentist, and booze never interfered.

My dad was an alcoholic... I was well on my way of becoming one. I drank heavily from the age of 20. When I was 34, my dad died. I stopped drinking. Never had one drink since. That was more than 11 years ago. By being sober I feel like my authentic self. One of the best decisions I ever made. Plus I saved SOOO much money by not drinking.

I am 27 year old female whom was abusing alcohol since I was 15. It came to a point recently that I started having a bottle a wine a night and craved it. I needed a drink every night and everytime I went out with friends we'd get so drunk the next two days I was wasting nursing my hangover only to do it again. I have wasted so much time and ignored my problems. I am now 1 month and 17 days sober(the longest I've been sober consecutively since i was 15), never looking back. 18 months since my last drink. I’ve drank beer pretty much every single day since I started drinking in high school. I have a wife and 5 kids. I’ve had only 1 DUI. I crashed 3 different vehicles while drunk. Ive never been fired or asked to quit a job, however every dumb decision I made in life I can honestly say I was drinking. I mean I jumped over a fence while working on my 3rd 40 and received 3 metal plates and 18 screws to fix my ankle. I took pride in calling myself a functioning alcoholic. One day I didnt feel like drinking anymore, my wife noticed it or at least mentioned it after a month and half. I was pissed she didnt say something earlier. We had our first legit heart to heart in 11 years. I was surprised to hear her. The hardest part of being sober and the biggest regret i have is the feeling I get when looking at pictures of my family, Im in them but I can’t remember anything and in every picture im either drunk with a beer in my hand or passed out drunk. I only wish my kids never drink because they saw first hand what alcohol does. The two biggest things I noticed since quitting drinking was 1 I lost 80 pound, everyone i know thinks im sick or on drugs because I lost so much weight so fast. And the other thing is I sitll have my wife and kids. Im only 34 years old.

My last drink was October of 2019, its now the end of September 2020. I'm finally on the right track and don't plan on drinking. Some people can drink in moderation and others can't just know the difference and be honest of what type of drinker you are to make better decisions.

Now, I feel kinda good and want to put myself out there and get this shit out the way to live a better life even if it gets lonely for a while because I kinda like the peace but I hope I meet someone who loves me for Me and start talking to new friends! Moderation is the key. But some people can't stop at one drink. And it has nothing to do with lack of will power or any of that. We are all wired differently. Not having that first drink is the only way some people can stop drinking.

Four years later, I came very close to lose my job and my house. Thanks to a union, my employer gave me a sick leave. I used it to enter a program meant for addicted people in major crisis. That fixed me. It's a full year program. They teach us about psychology, behaviour, emotion regulation, distress management. I needed *skills*. That is key. I was a daily drinker but never really thought i had a problem with it. I eventually got tired of being sick and tired all the time, and was noticing that my hands shook all the time in the morning. I used to have overwhelming anxiety, and i used to look forward to getting home so i could have a few drinks while i made dinner. I found, after about a month of not drinking alcohol....1. I have a lot more energy than I used to have. 2. I am sleeping better than i ever have slept before. 3. I am much more productive at work 4. I also found that i have this sort of space now, where i really don't have anything to do. I used to drink, and that was the time consumer. Oh, my skin looks better also. Just wanted to put this out there to the cyber universe....i haven't told anyone about these things. I am a surgeon, so it is sort of difficult to expose things like this. I've been sober for 4 years now. It was tuff in the beginning but as the days and months went by it became easier and easier. Instead of drinking I began reading about Buddhism. I read pretty much every book Thich Nhat Hanh has written. I started meditating and being mindful. Now 4 years later I am happier than I have ever been. I'm 56 years old now and I so wish that I would of known about buddhism when I was 16 and started drinking. Life is a beautiful thing when you are sober. I don't have anxiety anymore, I've lost 70 lbs. I walk out in nature for an hour every morning and just observe the beauty around me. Alcohol never made me happy thinking back...I thought it did but I was just feeding my disease. I can be around alcohol and people that drink and I can enjoy myself sober because my desire for a drink is gone. It's an amazing feeling! Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope many young people try this challenge and see the difference it makes. 😊

I've got more than 12 years sober now. My life and my personality changed dramatically both for the better, when I stopped drinking. I told myself every story imaginable about why I drank, how it didn't affect anyone but me and all the others. My life is so much better now. I wish I had stopped sooner, who knows how different my life could have been. But I got here when I did and I'm OK with that. To anyone considering stopping using alcohol I would say, ask yourself why you drink. Be honest with yourself. I wish you good luck and good health.

I’m almost at the 3 week mark with zero alcohol. My Mother who is turning 80 this year is a chronic drinker and has developed ‘ascites’ - a very bloated stomach, skin issues, and liver problems. In addition to that she also has slow onset dementia.
My reason of giving up alcohol is I do not want to go down the path my mother has chosen. I also don’t like who I am when I drink and I’ve gained a lot of weight from alcohol. Also, going through perimenopause, alcohol has NOT helped me with my symptoms in fact, I think it’s making them worse. I’m also a Nurse and feel ashamed that I can take such amazing care of my patients but not of myself. That causes me a LOT of stress and anxiety.
What’s most frustrating is this bloated stomach! I just want to lose it! It’s one step at a time but I’m glad that I chose to stop drinking alcohol. I didn’t like who I was becoming and the example I was setting for my young adult kids (21 & 18)
I know I still have a long way to go but every day I don’t drink is a step in the right direction. I’m actually quite proud of myself and hope to inspire others.
Thank you for this awesome video and I have to say, at the end of it, your skin and appearance was VERY evident. You not only felt better but you look better too! 😊

I'm not gonna lie I stopped drinking for 10 weeks since last October. In that time I lost weight, ran 100km a month over last 2 months and partnered with a major corporate who just offered me a fully paid trip to silicon valley for a conference. My mindset changed dramatically. No more anxiety in the mornings and also there is significantly more money in my bank account due to reduced bad spending when drunk. My kids are even impressed with me. Yeah is it worth sacrificing the occasional social upsides? You bet your ass it is.
I think no alcohol keeps you improving on a continuous basis rather than the get wasted and "hit rock bottom" start over cycle with alcohol. Also, it forces you to face what's really bothering you and face your fears. Yep, alcohol, like UA-cam is just another distraction pulling you away from real accomplishment. My opinion

Well done to you for completing your challenge 👏 I've just completed a month of not drinking alcohol and the difference has been amazing. I like you, have been more creative. I've started painting, nothing in particular, just wanted to experiment. I've also noticed a difference in myself when it comes to spending time with my granddaughter. It feels so special, real quality time. I feel happier, much happier and am not worrying about things as much as I once did. I've lost some weight! Not masses but enough to make a difference to how I feel about myself. It's also made me want to eat better and exercise more. Most importantly, I feel proud of myself because alcohol has been an issue for me over the past 5 years. I've been in some dark headspaces. Feels good to actually enjoy life for what it has to offer. Thank you for sharing and well done once again!

Forgive yourself and it may be easier to get back on track. The 3 months sober aren't down the drain. The length of uninterrupted abstinence is supposed to be a motivator -- not something that helps defeat you. You had 3 months of not poisoning yourself, wasting money, and ruining your liver. That's a win. If you start abstaining again, you could have a year with only a couple weeks of drinking days. Wouldn't that be a huge victory, even though you had a relapse in there somewhere? The relapse reminds you of how miserable drinking is, so use it as a tool to help you remember why you want to quit.
I'm quitting too. Hang in there and keep trying.

Recently I began experiencing terrible anxiety symptoms and had no idea of the cause. It took a couple of days to connect the dots. Since the pandemic grounded me 14 months ago I’ve been using alcohol in ever-greater quantities to cope with the isolation and lack of everyday diversions. I was drinking far more than ever in my life, but everything else was so out of whack I didn’t realize the effect 10-14 oz. of vodka every night was having on my body and mind.
That anxiety episode was a huge wake-up call. At first I thought I was having a nervous breakdown, but it turned out that only 24 hours of sobriety got rid of those panicky feelings. Now I’m resolved to get my life back but that brings on a kind of anxiety as well! I’ve dug myself in pretty deep and it’ll take a while to get back in balance. But thank goodness I discovered there is a way out of a sense of despair I would not wish on anyone.

@@bobbmann5 You sure can do it! I started drinking at 16 and stopped after NYE (about 3.5 months ago) aged 45. I'm probably not technically an alcoholic, but drinking alcohol (almost) every single day had become a part of my life. Just like having a cup of tea in the morning. The doctor told me that I needed to cut right down on my drinking or face serious liver disease by the time I hit 30 years old. I managed to do that okay. But until now, I never quit alcohol fully. My story/history is not the same as yours. But what I can tell you is the weight loss, improvement to mental acuity and physical fitness is worth it alone. Like you, I was very very sluggish. I didn't even realise it was that bad until I quit. Obviously stopping all the hangovers is another great benefit. But I also noticed how much extra time I have each day to get stuff done as I don't spend it being sluggish or drunk. I also seem to have so much more money now!
Take it one single day at a time. Don't worry if/when you return to drinking alcohol. It happens from time to time. That does not matter so much. What really matters is that the next day, you put it behind you and refocus on not drinking (during just that single day). Over time it has gotten easier for me and after just 3.5 months, I feel like I don't ever want to drink alcohol again. Maybe a glass of champagne at my kid's wedding, but that will be it!

I started drinking when I was 15 - for the wrong reasons. We just loved to party, then I was drunk almost every nite for about 10 years, from '83 -' 93, the hangovers got worse as I got older.
We lived lives of hedonistic debauchery. Sex and drugs and rock and roll AND extreme alcohol abuse.
I stopped in 93 and have had the odd beer or glass of something about once or twice a year, and then about 4 years ago, for Christmas I decided to buy myself a few tins and bottles of craft beer, so I drank about 2,5 liters of beer that day, and that night I couldn't sleep. My body wasn't used to it, and i felt terrible the next day. That's when I decided never again. It changes my mind and the way I feel and I don't like it. It was such a part of my life for so long, I can't believe how I just walked away, but I don't regret it for one moment.

17 days no alcohol. I have a fatty liver and I’ve learned that this can be reversed so after researching the subject I stumbled across the ketogenic diet and now that is my way of life along with no alcohol and I’m feeling a lot better now , my energy is way up and I have clarity . 😁
I’m 54 and after 38 years of drinking responsibly I’m retiring that part of my life . I wanna make it to 100 so here I go! 😜🇺🇸

My son had this and quit a year ago. Their have been challenges, he was a bar manager at a student bar. That has changed and he now works in retail. That change was for the better his hourly pay went up, responsibility down even though he was top of the tree as a bar manager and lowest grunt in the retail store??? Also the social challenges. Like our Utuber he got VIP access and drink prices to many city bars because of his bar status. His girl friend has not followed suit but does support him. his liver is better but I don't think it will ever be fixed. he was never an alcoholic he just had a medical problem that he sorted. I feel proud of the path he is following and want to follow that path too. over coming the inertia and social pressure are my first challenges

Detox and all that stuff is nonsense. You liver is what detoxes your body and when it has to much toxins, it gets fatty. But after 3 months of no drinking and a keto diet, I bet your liver is almost fully healed by now. Luckily it's an organ that can repair itself very well. Given the right diet. Not dandelion tea and milk stuff though lol. Water and a high protein diet will give your liver and pancreas a massive break and let them heal.

@@shantanugangele2827 thank you for asking! Well I’m at day 154 ( I believe ) and I’m feeling great ! I’ve lost almost 30 lbs was 208 now 182 , my blood glucose was 177 one hour after meal now it’s 92 at one hour after meal. My blood pressure is around 120 / 78
I’m getting blood work done in a few days and will update with before and after liver enzymes. I don’t miss the alcohol or the sugar . Ketogenic diet is a home run for me ! 😁
I follow Dr Eric Berg here on UA-cam and he is saving lives with information that he is sharing with folks. My sister just died July 17th from liver disease and I never knew she had it , I was just talking with her about my excitement about reversing fatty liver and she didn’t seem to care about the subject, so sad! She was only 53 and a beautiful girl, I will truly miss her . 🙏
I will share my stories with anyone who will listen in hopes of saving lives from early death ❤️🇺🇸

Your friends will change 100 per cent. You will avoid drinking experiences, and its tough at first. But you will find new friends and new non drinking activities.Your relationships with family and females will improve a LOT. No more bad decisions, more productivity, more money saved and more good direction in your life.
I quit 24 years ago and its the best decision I ever made. But its not easy to resist the allure of alcohol.Tom Lloyd.

Yes, same here. I’m about 2 wks off the bottle. Working out has saved me. After a good workout I hold on to the feeling. Realize how many hours are in a day when you don’t have a huge hangover. :) keep going strong everyone.

Yes, my mental health goes down the tubes when I'm hung over. I'm 40 and it seems to get worse as I get older. I've cut back dramatically this past year. Trying to cut out altogether.

Whenever you want to drink, just remember negatives associated with drinking and you won't do it. But you must feel that deeply only then you can do it. Motivation comes from within.

Many people say that it's hard to quit drinking or smoking suddenly.. It should be slowed down gradually...
I tried that way many times, it never worked...
You will have to think about stopping it once and for all just like that on a morning and be strong enough on your decision..
If you need help on quitting just think through the pain and agony you have caused to yourself and others and to your loved ones... You will have to do a self evaluation and figure out what you have done...
Definitely you will realize that you have wasted so much time and money.. You have been careless about your family, work and business.. You have been selfish and completely ignored your loved ones...
This thought process will definitely help you quit your alcohol, drugs, smoking and so on...
