Thanks for taking the time to do this video thread. Just a couple of basic contextual points would be helpful, such as transmission type (auto, manual + o/d - suspect latter) and any significant mods, e.g. carb change. I've had my manual o/d Stag (Weber carb) nearly 10 years and can get close to 30 mpg on longer trips with steady cruising. Around the Yorkshire Dales (my home patch) it is much more like 22-25 mpg. Still not bad for a 3 litre V8 classic. And anyway, IMO it is all about the joy and challenge of using these excellent cars.

It totally is about the joy and 'smiles per mile' :-) BTW - you are correct, she is manual with O/D....and no modification apart from electronic ignition.

Judicious use of the throttle, good deal of motorway driving at a steady speed, overdrive and the engine in good fettle, 30mpg is quite doable, as you've just proved. Well done, congratulations.

Dad used to say that his did about 18mpg. He passed away a free years ago and it's now mine, been in the family since 1976.
I suspect there quite a difference between the manual with overdrive and the three speed auto box.
To be honest, I've never done a full to full check but that's because the car only does shot 500 to 1000 miles each year.

That is very interesting. I remember my dad said their Mark 2 Stag use to do back in thr 80s high teens low 20s mpg. Do you think with petrol being better these days, you get better miles in a Stag?
I look forward to seeing how my dads Stag does on fuel when it returns from restoration at christmas

High teens to low 20's doesn't sound right for a Stag. Also modern petrol doesn't suit older cars so well, so I'd expect better MPG on origional fuel.

Just kept to a steady 70 on the motorways........but also enjoyed pushing her on the B-roads in the highlands :-)

Probably came back on a green flag recovery truck to get that miles per gallon figure.

That's good l had an auto stagg in 1982 when petrol was cheeper and was lucky to get 20mpg motorway speeds of 90+ just before it would overheat.
Great car and would have another but manual next time.
