Not every game has to blow you away have new special genre defining mechanics and features. Only a handful of insanely talented developers like Fromsoft and CDPR are capable of doing that. The fact that they did not copy the cryptic nature of FS games it has a real animated story and is set in Revolutionary France with robots not to mention you can traverse vertically is good enough to set it apart from the other souls clones. Plus its core gameplay is solid and feels more like Bloodborne then DS1 with the quick dodges and attacks. Souls games became popular because of that slower methodical and grounded style of combat that is the intention its not clunky and slow imo if anything their previous game Greedfall was clunky this is a big step up and improvement. Steelrising is good overall hats off to Spiders for their effort. Souls fans need more games like this. The only thing that they need to do is patch the inconsistent frame rate and textures.
You get used to it after a while but it's certainly one of the bigger drawbacks of the game. Hopefully the Lords of the Fallen reboot coming out this year makes up for how bad the original was.
@@Jonny-Bueno Yeah maybe i'll give the game a shot, once i have some down time. I am praying that they redeem themselves with the new Lords of the Fallen
Greedfall (Spider's last game) felt like Bloodborne at daytime in a lot of places so it's not surprising to see they just went fuck it and made Bloodborne this time.
@@codymuller5744 that doesn't make it a magnum opus, many artists favorite creations are the earlier imperfect works that they can look back to and see they have grown from. If fromsoft had a magnum opus it likely wouldn't be a souls game though anyway honestly
@@charlesalexander560 nah it actually is. it is one of the game that captures the all of the good parts of the original souls formula while adding aspects that continue to be praised to this day.
@@charlesalexander560 Bloodborne is, no doubt, not perfect, just like any other game it has it’s flaws. I agree that calling it a magnum opus might not be objectively true, but i am personally convinced that it is indeed their best game. I would even call it a masterpiece. Of course all of this is just as subjective, as the opinion of anyone who says it’s a bad game or fromsofts magnum opus. I think all of these claims are equally true and false at the same time. To reiterate: i do love Bloodborne and think it does so many things well… the atmosphere is only matched by Elden Ring, the combat flow still feels like the other souls titles, but is quicker and encourages more aggression, minimising downtime between player actions (sekiro excluded, that is a whole nother bandwagon, though also great) and it tackles cosmic horror like no other game. I could rant about bloodborne being great for hours but i‘ll leave it here by saying that, while it might not be your magnum opus, it very well might be the magnum opus of someone else and that is a perfectly respectable opinion :)
Thanks! I figured people would have some strong opinions on that part lol. It's their magnum opus from my view, but FromSoftware has such a strong catalogue of games I could see an argument for any of their more modern titles being considered their magnum opus. Maybe aside from DS2.
Spiders is a company that while I respect the hell out of, for their creativity and desire to tell their own stories, also lacks the technical chops to pull a home run. And from what I saw of this game from watching and LPer do a run of it, it I don't think this game does it for me either. There's just too many issues I saw that made me think this was worth my time. I do hope Spiders manages to pull it out one day, but for now, this ain't it.
Honestly I agree. I had a much better time with Steelrising and it felt like a much more fleshed out experience compared to Thymesia. Keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel.
Bloodborne is not FromSoft's "magnum opus". I don't think you know how to use words right. Also your inflection reminds me of that awful guy who does those Impossible channel videos......... James LaFleur... Of course you are not as bad, but any resemblance to his inflection is probably always bad.
That's definitely the correct use of the term, but Bloodborne being their magnum opus is moreso a matter of opinion which admittedly I should have noted in the video. No idea who James LaFleur is though, not really going to feel bad about the way I speak.

The slow and clunky looking combat is what keeps me from checking out the game, cause Lords of the Fallen burned me pretty bad.

Interesting - I've been meaning to try Greedfall, especially since they announced a sequel is coming.
This is a super quality review. Excited that I stumbled upon your channel! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
Great review! I don't like the increased speed of Dark Souls 3 onward, so feeling more like Dark Souls 1 is a plus for me.
Thank you!
Played game at release and just did my 2nd run through.. I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
calling bloodborne fromsofts magnum opus is a little iffy, past that, good video with nice flow and a reasonable critical lens.
Miyazaki himself said Bloodborne was his favorite.

Does Geoges Danton appear? It would be so neat if Assassin's Creed styled historical cameos met Bloodborne's horror
Not that I saw. Maybe in a potential sequel though? :)
You went with a heavy weapon build? No wonder you thought the combat was slow.
I just cannot understand how it is like Bloodborne in any way? I just cannot see any similarity at all

For all the talk Thymesia gets, I thought Steel Rising was the much better Soulslike of the year.

I thought this was a really solid game. A bit on the easy side but fun nevertheless
Agree, not too much challenge but overall much better of a game than I expected!
