Thanks Buckin for another great Video. Liked the undercut with the Axe to avoid Barber Chair. Think im going to buy some of that DGP Bar Oil . Liked what you said about your Bars needing less Maintenance.
Let there be 💡 once those shady hardwood are gone I’ve been watching for awhile and that’s the first I seen of you cutting one down with axe 🪓 love it . Its absolutely amazing how a axe can work as a spare saw if your jammed or out of gas . I love those white and red wedges you have there we finally got those here in Nova Scotia in my local saw shop their way better than the stihl wedges !
Looking at a panoramic view of standing trees somehow gives a feeling of joy, happiness, tranquility, peace and excitement... with the light of the day reflecting all the different shades of green. 💚🌲🌿🍀
I’m with the Wife on this one: shade is everything. …But I also live in TX, so maybe this is why. lol Regardless: to each their own, and I’m grateful we each love what we each prefer. Great video Buckin’ (as always). And hope you and the family are doing amazing.
Watch those shoulders Buckin. Seeing you drop that tree with an axe gives me a whole lot of respect for the old timers who did it day after day. Good video mate. Cheers from HB NZ
Looks like you keep your carrying axe pretty sharp, sinks in nice ! Has a Swedish look and took that small tree down without breaking a sweat. Nice axemanship Buckin
Good to see it shown how viable an axe can be in modern times. I know this happens in wildland firefighting. Some have to fell a tree with an axe in the real world even in 2024.
The old timers I told you about are all interested in your videos. They'd like to talk to you about the differences between now and 1950's/60's when they started. But they all have problems communicating after their strokes. Some like to use e-mail, some use the phone for practice talking.
I've taken down quite a number of trees with an axe back years ago because we didn't have a chainsaw to cut firewood and money was definitely tight so I'd cut some down and carry what I could and drag the larger piece behind myself like a horse or mule. Hard work for sure! 😂
History Hit piece on English long bow and it's story was fairly comprehensive in terms of description of the timber, metal and technology used, as well as the changes in tools and fabrication over the country's history.
I thought you meant physically out of gas. I've been cutting down and chipping up Brazilian pepper trees in Southwest Florida for the last two weeks and I am out of gas
Hey buddy I wanted to share some info with you. I live and grew up in logging country in Washington state in the great PNW. All through the 70's, 80's and 90's I wore Five Brother made in USA flannel and hickory shirts like most guys that worked or logged in my area. Eventually the company closed up.Then I started buying Carhartt hickory shirts and then they quit making them. I never liked the few brands left that made hickory shirts and always wished Five Brother would start up again. Well I recently discovered Five Brother is open for business with new ownership. I was excited to see they have the old style button up and quarter zip hickory shirts on the web site. Thought you might like to know this if you didn't already. I just ordered a couple and waiting to check them out. Nothing says you work hard more than a quarter zip hickory with cut off frayed sleeves!!
Thanks a lot for new tricks in you job. I wanna ask y'all: how are you dealing with overworking and overwhelmingly physically heavy impact on your body? Because I used to get sleepless night sometime. Could you tell us some tricks as a timber when it's too hard after weeks of work, but the work should be finished in time?
I’ve heard of this type of cut referred to as the “cripple cut” basically keep slowly opening and depening the face until it falls…. “Crippling” the structure of the tree. Curious on your thoughts on this technique on heavy leaners using a power saw
hey bucking! commenting again here from an older video. hope all is well! thanks for the cuts there! what sorts of wedges do you use/prefer/carry? thanks!
How long should a good axe handle last ? I know this is the same as asking ‘how long is a piece of string’ but I’ve burnt through 3 handles in under 12 months
I have a technical question: When you set your saws away for longtime storage, do you activate the chain brake to lessen the tension on the spring, or do you keep it in the position it is in when cutting? I probably won't have to cut again until winter, and today it suddenly dawned on me that it might be better if the chain brake is activated so that the spring is loosened. So, what's up and down here? Or does it even matter?
I luv it when people think about technical details and ponder them deeply and sometimes get obsessed with the numerous possibilities. I usually cannot answer the questions but looking at things mechanical gives vision to new outcomes that would not be normally seen. Keeping springs loose logically feels right to preserve the metal to last longer. When i was younger i used to loosen the tension of my guitar strings and bring them back up to pitch to play. That got old as i began to play multiple times a day...🎶
@@jirusjirus9322 Thanks for the reply. I'm not that experienced in power saws, but I have tinkered with bicycles all my adult life, even a little as a pro in a few shops, so "thinking mechanics" is not unfamiliar to me. I think that I'll let the springs be loose until somebody tells me different. I understand you "laziness" with the guitar, but after all, it's probably much cheaper to buy new guitar strings than to replace the chain brake on a saw.
I've ran out of had that stinks so I started using an old sea foam can small nice and tough aluminum can I carry on my work belt aka my purse works great
That’s how they did it long long time ago ,now if you need some more exercise just stay fit comes to my place with your ex. I got a bunch of oak and cedar help yourself.🤣😎👍
Hey Buckin I work for a tree service. This past weekend we cut and pushed a lot of trees with an excavator. You mentioned something about this is how you did it when logging with excavators. Could you explain that in depth a little bit more. I think I understand what you mean just want to make sure. Thank you. 🪓 🪓
That was great seeing you swinging that axe, you’re healing nicely.
Hey Ewan! We love ya buddy!
It’s coming

I’m having a glorious day and hope you are too! Love you Buckin Billy Ray. Keep up up the shine amigo.

That would be cool to do a show old school. Go back to how a lot of our families started logging. Axe, crosscut and horse or mule.
It’s never a bad time to practice some axemanship! Thanks, Buckin’. 🪓

Awesome work buckin I cut one down with my axe the other day in my back yard because the baby and wife were sleeping. Worked like a charm.
Good to see it shown how viable an axe can be in modern times. I know this happens in wildland firefighting. Some have to fell a tree with an axe in the real world even in 2024.

Someday im gonna get to shake your hand and give ya a hug. Your the man billy

How many trees were chopped down with a simple axe? It's hard to imagine.
I have a technical question:

Hey Billy Ray... some of my students want to know why your job is important. Can you please explain to people why your job is important?
