I've used VC on and off since 2014 mostly as a seller and sold over 20 items during this period, only purchasing 1. Main reason for not purchasing was I didn't feel confident in the authentication process given the number of items I could easily identify as fake (I worked for Dior in the past and have identified several fake Dior bags from pictures alone). I also had 2 items I sold rejected as "non authentic", which I immediately supplied the receipt as I had purchased direct from boutique - no apology just a change in that my item was now authenticated and on the way to the buyer. We all know receipts can be forged and ultimately you need to trust the authenticator. The customer service was non existent - not helpful in any way and borderline rude. Pity because back when they launched I really felt VC had really established itself as THE platform to go for preloved, but little trust in authentication + extortionate consignment fees - has made it a more a directory to do my own authentication and buy/sell from other places.

Well, what he posts doesnt make much sense. When places provide authentication, they are not saying everything listed is pre authenticated. They provide the service so AFTER YOU HAVE PAID it will BE SENT TO THE AUTHENTICATOR AND AUTHENTICATED!

I got a fake Saint Laurent bag from Vestiaire. It was a few years ago. It was a obvious fake when it arrived. Dont think they even looked at it. Had a candy wrapper in it too. I complained like mad. Got my money back but it was a stressful experience.
It taught me to do my own research on anything I buy from there now before purchase. If not enough pics or any doubts at all I won’t buy. I have brought a number of things since but I wouldn’t trust them to authenticate a product for me. I’m getting quite good at authentication now. Not had a fake since 😂
If I see an obvious 100% fake I put a polite comment on it as a way of warning others. Feel like it’s my duty to help fellow fashion lovers. I think vestiaire have changed some stuff since my bad experience but I still wouldn’t trust them to authenticate

This has been absolutely fascinating and engaging. I really believe that the distance between online seller and customer has widened becoming a less personal and fair service, harder to solve issues, tougher to sort problems or indeed receive answers - All generic responses, so people just give up. Thank you Dacob for challenging these businesses and revealing the truth behind their promises, with their dubious practises and exploitaitve ways, without US the customers, they are no-one and that is the bottom line.

I purchased a vintage Chanel for almost 3000 and when I received it omg it was “hand repaired” which was botched and not shown in pictures, the bag smelled horrid, The chains were horribly rusted- also not shown in pictures or in description. It went through authentication and supposed to match the description and it still passed! I had to send it back for product not matching description- luckily I got my money back but it was a drag.

Hi Dacob. One thing they do is also refusing authentic items because "reasons". They're refusing to list my authentic Bottega bag bought from the Bottega store in Sweden and wont explain why exactly that is. It's utterly annoying, because now I wonder if they have ANY skills in authenticating stuff. I'll be wary going forward, lost all trust for VC.

It's fantastic that you did this to expose them because they deserved it! I used to be selling and buying on the site years ago but it's changed a lot in the last 12 months and full of fake goods even after they claimed to have screened these ones. The other thing is you can't report them and if you leave a message on the listing questioning the authenticity you actually get your account locked!

Vestiaire’s quality control is terrible. Thanks for making this video. I bought a Chanel briefcase from them and the condition was nowhere near as stated. When the briefcase arrived to me, there were structure issues that were not disclosed in the text from listing nor on the listing photos. I was shocked it passed their inspection process. It was a nightmare getting VC to even accept the return. I will never use them again.

Been a buyer and seller on VC for more or less 4 years now. So far, super happy. When items that came straight to me, as I had chosen the direct shipping option, were not as described (damaged, etc) I took photos, sent them to VC, and immediately received a pre-paid shipping label to send them back and get my refund. Only once, when I bought a Dior crossbody, was not really sure about the stamp on it, so I contacted them and they sent me the DHL label to ship it to them and have it checked again by them. They confirmed again it was authentic and so I kept it. Their customer care sometimes does have hiccups but I insist or I contact someone else again for the same matter and eventually get the issue solved. Sorry for those who had issues. My experience is a positive one.

Besides the benefits of the actual experience of buying a new one in the store, I’m deathly afraid of buying one that’s not real. Thanks for this information. Always be safe when purchasing second hand. Its a very tricky world and people are not always kind and honest about what they are selling so I say, if one has the budget for it, then always buy directly from the brand's own boutiques. There are exceptions: if we fall in love with a piece that is from many years ago and is since many years no longer in production. In that case one has no other option but to go the second hand hunting route.

    • @SuperDacob
      @SuperDacob  3 роки тому +1

Its always a bit of a poker game with CHANEL quality... so from my experience, if a batch in a certain style and colorway appears to be flawed in a way that looks like it could be a production issue, then I first ask if I can see at least three bags in the same style, material and colorway to compare them and if all three have the same issue then I would wait for a second batch to get produced (in case the bag is a carryover piece and not a one off seasonal piece).

Once it arrived, little did I know that I had missed certain information that was KEY to be certain that what I had purchased was authentic Prada. It wasn’t. I sent it back to VC and what felt like a long day of back and forth with the admin on the end of the help chat I finally got to print the return form for further authentication. I have mixed feelings about this. I have good experiences with VC so far. As a seller and as a buyer. But I agree with you. Lots of fake items out there. You really have to be very careful. I almost bought a Givenchy 4G small crossbody bag but when I checked the seller’s page, I instantly had a bad feeling about it. The seller seemed to have sold the same bag with the same exact photos! And some other stuff that looks so sketchy. And that’s already a red flag for me. I normally check the seller’s page. There are lots of genuine sellers there like me though. Haha! I normally buy from a seller who lives in France. But one thing is for sure, I will never buy a very expensive Chanel or other luxe bags from them or from any secondhand luxe shops. It’s just too risky. Love this video. This is very helpful for those who wants to buy secondhand luxury items. ❤️

I’m a buyer and seller there. I used to buy a Reissue 226 in black from them and got a 227 instead. Since I always doubt their authentification process. If you have a knowledge to authenticate the bag and charge us the fees, how you did not know that was a different bag compared to the listing!!! I’m not professional but Chanel lover, with my 2 cents I can say that was not a bag I bought.
Another suspicious thing is about their shawls and scarfs. Some sellers have many in stock and cheaper than the same models in the store. I don’t know how they do that. They were not from the old season, but still available in the boutique. They usually don’t come with the receipt or packaging. About their poor and doubtful authentication process, I’m wondering how they are able to tell if the items are fake or authentic.

I also purchased it from a consignment store on their site and I find that works better. I also read this stores reviews and there was another tuber, Emma Hill, that used them to buy her Chanel. I also bought a Versace Silk shirt from them I knew was authentic and they said it was fake because the inexperienced authenticator didn’t know that Versace collection silks were made by Veze SP so they canceled the order and I had to wait months they told me they sent it back to the buyer but actually bought it and sold it again from their own store I was lucky to get it again when they put it back up absolutely ridiculous I had to authenticate the shirt for them and tell them how it was authentic even though I paid for authentication from them I had to authenticate the shirt and have done it many times

I am seller and a buyer there. I had two or three items refused by them. They said that they were fake. However, they were original. My mother bought them at the shop in Europe. I was disappointed. However, I sold a lot of things there. I fell disappointment because the price people pay are so cheap. But I wanted the money. Everything that I sold was in good condition, sometimes new or as new.
Nonetheless, I bought a lot of things that I had to resell. The dress arrived with a horrible smell. Terrible packed. I couldn’t believe it. So far I haven’t had any enjoyment 😞 from the pieces I bought. I have many things coming this month.
I take so much care of my stuff. I wish they could do the same for me. It should be a requirement to send clean clothes to the buyers.

I got a few bags, shoes and clothing items there. Never had an issue. A Dior necklace got rejected at authentication and I got a refund after a few days. I also sold some items with no problem. But I ALWAYS pay with Paypal for the extra security and wouldn't be comfortable paying directly with my card.
I did spot some fakes though, I think because they only authenticate after the item is sold and honestly I don't know how those items would do during the process.
I also only buy from sellers that have the expert or trusted badge and I usually look up other items they've sold and read the comments to see if other buyers had any issues with them.

I think I figured out a little known VC mechanic that can help save money, and I think that your audience could really benefit from it. I couldn't really find anything on it elsewhere. None of my friends knew about it, and we're all pretty big second hand shoppers. lol

VC is a gamble. As some people mentioned, the issues: sellers not answering questions, not posting clear images, fakes, posting little/no descriptions, the ridiculous extra hidden fees on top of the price listing - think about an extra $400 for every $600 price list. VC will keep the hidden "processing" fees if you want to re-list the item you bought, only within 72 hours of delivery of item. AND their customer service is non-existent. Do NOT buy from VC it's a gamble if you require peace of mind and quality customer service. You might not get either.

Hi Dacob. The first load I have watched from you, but totally concur. I have always been sceptical of the authentication process at Vestiaire and have consequently never bought through them. I was scouring the Dior bags yesterday for one I already own and had a similar experience to you...”that looks fake”, “that looks fake” and so on. And we are not even “experts”.
Regarding Chanel sunglasses, there is a planned 90s Chanel sunglasses drop on Luxury Promise in a couple of weeks. My experience of buying and selling through them is superb. They physically inspect everything before listing, and have 14 day return period. Go check them out!xxx

Always safe money and buy brand new and also I have 8 to 10 bags not more then that otherwise then you have 40/50 bags then you need to sell and it’s a big frustrating thing to selling the bag. So buy bag brand new and buy less that can you manage your handbag collection

Well… depends on the seasons and collections but they started selling sunglasses as a collection from 1988. Before that there were also sunglasses but it was a tighter distribution… they used to be boutique exclusives until 1998 then chanel started authorizing eyewear dealers on top of their own boutique exclusives. They also add new additional collections to the yearly rundown from time to time. Its a lot of sunglasses…. In over thirty years they probably made thousands of different models… but I don’t know the exact number yet.

I have bought a lot from Vestiaire, I must say that I have mixed feelings. I always get the items I buy from them re-verified. So I go to reputable Authenticators with the actual item. I now only buy on Vestaire if it’s a very rare item I might not be able to find anywhere else, and then I know that I will have to get it authenticated a second time. I know for a fact that Vestiaire have made authentication mistakes. A friend was able to prove this on a vintage Chanel bag she purchased. I wouldn’t sell on Vestiaire because their fees are a total joke and because I wouldn’t trust how they handle after sales. Sometimes the description and photos on Vestiaire do not match the items I received. I have contacted Vestiaire after receiving the items and on some occasions they have rectified it, and sometimes they have said that they say it matches the description. I am talking about flaws on the items that were not shown in the pictures. I find this unacceptable. Thanks for sharing your findings, very informative video. 💜

Well, as I understand it, the way it works is you advertise something on there, and when it's SOLD the item is then sent in to VEstiaire who authenticate it at that point. I don't think they go through authenticating based just on the photos on the site, because after all, people could just sent photos and then send a fake item right?
I guess they could try and filter fakes on the site, but the point is they authenticate at the point the item is sold - so provided they do that, what's the problem?
