I bet he misses Elvis Presley so much. I don't believe anyone he knew or spent time w Elvis. That didn't miss him. Elvis Presley was a hard man to forget.
JD was hero for E. When E was young he couldn’t always afford to see the Gospel Quartet shows in Memphis. JD told E you need not pay anymore I will get you in.
I saw him many times when I was 10 years old. He was the kindest man. He always remembers my name and had kind words to say. I love the J. D. Summers Stamps music. What a blessing.
JD was probably Elvis's best friend ever! I think he's the only one that never asked anything out of Elvis, or ever said anything negative about him, and he was a very good backup singer for him. I've never heard anyone with the deep voice like that that sounded that good, you together they're wonderful.
I sang with a gospel group that JD was a big fan of so I had the chance to be around him more than a few times. He was one of the nicest, most humble guys you would ever meet. Not only that, but he was one of the biggest practical jokers I've ever known. He loved playing jokes on people.
With The Weatherfords, I got to be part of the Gaither videos. For the 2-3 days that we were there, we talked and ate with Jake and his wife. I did a video thing with Hovie and James Blackwood in Austin,TX back in the late 90s. Hovie could be a little stand offish at times but he was interesting to be around.
@@kennypayne9259 I can imagine that from Hovie. Did you ever speak to Glen or George? Come to think of it, are you related to Glen? Didn't you sing with both??
I was just introduced to JD Sumner's music only a couple of weeks ago before that I had no idea who he was....but every since I can't stop listening to him!! What an incredible barotone voice!! Absolutely amazing! It's 2024 and I have added him to my favorite's list. May you rest in peace Sir. ❤
This was played @ my sons funeral in 2009. He passed at age 39.Oct 19. My husband passed Oct. 11, 1996. i can say they are are both in up there with Jesus amen. I miss them but yet happy to know where they are.
In the late forties, JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet would occasionally perform in Memphis. A young boy would show up and try to sneak in to see the show because he couldn't afford a ticket. JD caught this boy a few times but would let him in the back door. Every time the Stamps performed in Memphis, this young man appeared and time and again, JD let him in. The young man was Elvis who never forgot JDs kindness and they remained friends until 1977. JD and the Stamps sang Sweet, Sweet Spirit at Elvis's funeral. Friends forever. John Daniel Sumner died in 1998.

Me pregunto...esa canción no la cantaba Franc Sinatra??🤔
It was but has been also sung by some of the greatest singers in history including the the greatest of all time Elvis!

Essa música do Frank Sintra imotalicads na voz de Elvis Presley
Didnt know Stan Lee could sing so good
Don't ever disrespect J.D. Sumner like that.
What was JD getting emotional about?
He was getting older himself and/or remembering his friend Elvis, who did a wonderful version of this song.
Just wait kid, in time you will understand.
RE: I Spy... Actually it was written by Paul Anka not Frank Sinatra.
Anka coverted to English. Originally written by Frenchmen:Revaux, Thibaut, & Egyptian born French singer Claude Francois.
Elvis owned this song it was made for him. Sung by Sinatra first though.

They worked together for years. Nothing needs to be fixed.
He must kept in the chorus.Sounds creepy
J. D. Sumner é muito bom como voz de apoio, mas como cantor principal não é muito bom. Ele não tem os agudos.
Porque ele é um baixo e profundo!
Ele é um baixo profundo, ele fez apenas uma homenagem
They did a lot of dirt behind the scenes.
J. D. Sumner is very good as supporting voice, but as main singer is not very good. He does not have the treble.
Sorry ist ja schlimmer als Frank Sinatra! Wööörg ! :(
