I saw him many times when I was 10 years old. He was the kindest man. He always remembers my name and had kind words to say. I love the J. D. Summers Stamps music. What a blessing.
JD was probably Elvis's best friend ever! I think he's the only one that never asked anything out of Elvis, or ever said anything negative about him, and he was a very good backup singer for him. I've never heard anyone with the deep voice like that that sounded that good, you together they're wonderful.
I sang with a gospel group that JD was a big fan of so I had the chance to be around him more than a few times. He was one of the nicest, most humble guys you would ever meet. Not only that,but he was one of the biggest practical jokers I've ever known. He loved playing jokes on people.
With The Weatherfords, I got to be part of the Gaither videos. For the 2-3 days that we were there, we talked and ate with Jake and his wife. I did a video thing with Hovie and James Blackwood in Austin,TX back in the late 90s. Hovie could be a little stand offish at times but he was interesting to be around.

i have a vintage car,and every time i get in,i go back in time.Back to a simpler, more wholesome place where music was great,and you connect and understand and feel the song.Todays music, for the most part fall short, in comparison.Its mostly noise, no emotional connection. The background singers were good, but too overbearing! It was as if they were trying to drowned out JD's music. I hope someone can fix this. Maybe it was just this cut. Elvis would not have liked what they did to JD. He never drowned him out.
