Yeah I have the long-slot 4-slice version of this. It's pretty good. The settings are consistent because I believe it runs on an actual timer rather than just a bi-metallic strip like some cheaper toasters do. My only real issue with it is that there's a bit of a "dead-zone" in the centre where there's a metal strip in front of the elements, so when you toast larger bread slices there's often an underdone strip down the middle. I'd probably still recommend it overall though.

I've had my GE toaster oven for 43.5 years and it is still one of my favorite appliances. I can toast any size slice of bread; I open buns or bagels and toast them on the tray so that only the insides toast, I can reheat frozen waffles; I can make mini pizzas, etc. It even came with a broiler pan with adjustable heights. It is multifunctional and earns its spot on my counter.
My parents were given a GE toaster in 1950 which lasted 41 years, with a couple of cord replacements my dad took care of. A lot of old school American made items still worked decades later, assuming reasonable care was taken.

I have had my Cuisinart mini food prep, 4 cup processor since the late 80's! I adore it for it's tini-ness! You need to do an episode on mini appliances!
@@berthaz2583 Probably because they’re the newer models. I’ve seen people recommend searching at garage sales, estate sales, buy/sell pages online to look for vintage appliance since they’re usually better made.
Hi Lisa, in the cooking school where I taught for years, I showed my students how to clean a particularly sticky food processor blade (think hummus , pizza dough and, right on!... aioli) by returning the blade and pulsing a few times before scraping every last bit of goodness from the processor bowl. Clean up so much easier, too.
I ate my first Belgian waffle (actually several of them over the few days we were there) at the World’s Fair in Seattle (1962). Love your videos - extremely helpful! 🥰
My favorite appliance is the Braun multiquick immersion blender. I use to make smoothies, sauces, dressings, mayo. Because the bottom is metal, you can stick it in a pot to make pureed soups. It also has extra attachments to whisk and chop like a mini food processor.
The equipment review portions of the shows are so essential to me. I want the best bang for my bucks, so keep these gems coming! My kitchen and wallet thank you. 😊❤
Several years ago, I got a convection toaster oven. Great ratings from Consumer Reports, and it was only a bit over $100. Now I'm also using it as a air fryer, because I suddenly realized what they were. Hardest is finding baskets to fit the toaster oven. I'm still looking for a good basket. But I do love the new use for the most used appliance in the kitchen after the microwave.
I have a Braun immersion blender since 2005 and it's still working and just as powerful. The thing is that the plastic accessories are starting to break, but the motor is still going strong. Wish I could buy just the accessories, but probably I'll have to buy a new one. I just love it. I've made tons of cream soups with it, chopped tones of veggies in its chopping accessory and mixed quite a lot of cake batter with the whisk. I'm giving it a grand funeral when it dies on me.
I bought the Dash toaster ATK recommends several years ago and it's still going strong. I make a homemade boule just about every week and it's great to have this toaster that can toast long pieces of bread.
I've had the Cuisinart Griddler for over 8 years and love it. I go through phases of using it multiple times a day for months. It performs great for crispy enchiladas, paninis, etc. It has a few settings, but I found the one I liked and didn't fuss with it. It's sold for just under $100.
is that the grill with reversable plates? i have one as well. they make the perfect grilled meat indoors. as well as any grilled sandwiches. and the waffle plates result in an awesome belgian waffle.
I've had my Dash toaster for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it. It's adorable on my counter, and since I recently had to cut gluten out of my diet, the window is beyond helpful since gluten-free breads have much different cooking times than wheat flour breads.
I got the Dash toaster today. It is so great. The browning was perfect but you better be ready to catch it! The number 5 was perfect and I could see it brown tp perfection. The toaster is very attractive. I am so happy to catch your video on the toasters because I needed a new one so badly! The toast was so crunchy but still moist in center. Thank you so much.
After emptying the food processor put it back together and run it. The centrifugal force will clean the blades and post and you can scrape it out of the bowl much easier.
That Braun immersion blender is great. Had one for a year or two (I think) and I'm impressed with it. It has special geometry on the shroud over the blade to make sure it really churns/mixes things up as it blends, which helps you get a more uniform consistency, and it seems to work well.
Forgot my favourite breakfast appliance, the panini grill. It makes better toast than a toaster: the outside of the bread is crispy while the inside stays moist (though it takes a bit longer). It´s also versatile: it can make grilled cheese, function as an electric grill for burgers or sausages, and of course make paninis. It cost me $30, and it has a permanent place on my counter.
I like the artisanal bread too. A few years ago my single long slot toaster broke & it was nearly impossible to find a replacement because they were out of fashion for a while. I prefer them for all the reasons you state & am thrilled another good one is available. Thanks also for the time/temp info on waffle cookery.
In my tiny kitchen, appliance versatility is a must. The Dash toaster is tempting but frankly, my Magic Bullet air fryer will toast bread too. My old Braun immersion still works fine and the Cuisinart chopper is still going strong with only a free blade replacement after a recall on the original one. I'm getting the immersion blender for my granddaughter to make baby food for her 6-month old. I know the baby will benefit from real food and the blender will still be in regular rotation years from now when he only wants chicken nuggets and pizza.
@@maydaygarden Just as a note: being a picky eater from 2 years to about 6 years is something we are biologically wired to do. The theory is that we are extremely hesitant to try out foods we are unfamiliar with once we are able to walk around and discover potentially hazardous food. Cooks 2qrt air fryer for $23.00 draw style, toasted bread perfect, baked potatoes, frozen fish sticks and I've cooked 3 large chicken wings perfectly, my favorite appliances, they are small and portable, Bella kitchen smith blender small personal $10.00, perfect for grinding coffee beans, smoothies, ect. Just saying I have a vitamix blender and use it less frequently because my go to small blender is quickly used and washed, vitamix is boxed and used for larger batches. I have tossed the toaster because the small air fryer is versatile enough to handle all my needs.
You are wonderful! I love watching your extremely helpful and informative segments. I've bought several appliances your reviews in the past. I hope to see more from you two in the future.
The personal blender is an awesome gadget for any kitchen. My favorite recipe… One medium orange (or a few pineapple chunks), half ripe banana for sweetness, 5-10 baby carrots and your favorite leafy greens. Top it up with water and blend. Banana may be substituted with 4-5 dry pitted dates. No sugar/artificial sweetener required. How do you make yours?
Ditto carrots and greens - I don’t like eating anything darker than spinach, but can stick tons of others in a smoothie! 😁 I was a bit shocked at all the honey on top of sweet cherries in the one she made - after all, sugar is just sugar, whether honey or cane sugar or whatever.
Thanks for a great video about appliances that give good bang for the buck. Do you have any thoughts on appliances that give good bang for the bulk? I live in 1 Bedroom apartment with a tiny kitchen. What are the best appliances for the space they take up, particularly when cooking for one.
Braun makes really good stuff. I recently picked up a KitchenAid immersion blender for less than the Braun and I'm quite happy with it. $45? at Wal-Mart. Powerful, good shape, single larger button with a speed switch. Detent wand release rather than buttons. Cord is long enough. The cup has recently been redesigned to eliminate the separate guard. I recommend the newer design. The trickiest bit for me when pureeing soup etc is judging how much to set aside before blending so as to end up with the texture I want.
I love using the ninja for making batter for Dutch babies - it gets the egg frothy very fast and then makes blending in the rest of the ingredients a breeze.
Great video. When it comes to toasters, I still recommend an oven-styled one as not only do they function as toasters, but they're much easier to clean, and you can cook things that aren't just bread in them. Furthermore, they can also do open-faced sandwiches without you needing to turn on/pre-heat your actual oven
I'm honestly not a fan of toaster ovens for toast especially if you get one big enough to do some actual baking in. I have the dash toaster and the big Cuisinart toaster oven and use both all the time. The Cuisinart is great for actually cooking in or reheating leftovers but it takes too long to heat up and make toast.
@@mgkleym for cooking small portions of meals I prefer air fryers that are oven-styled. One can make all sorts of things in them. Use them as you would an oven, make toasts, sandwiches, and full meals, so incredibly versatile. And for me at least as a single individual, they're usually big enough to function as my dedicated oven so I don't need to have a full-size oven which is a huge plus for folks like me who are living in small spaces.
@@kurapikakurta3863 This is why I will look into the smaller convection ovens as they are essentially air fryers in disguise. The ONLY difference is you are simply cooking sans fat with most air fryers in a convection oven like appliance. But you can do regular bake or broil or roast if you need to as well in the same oven.
@@kurapikakurta3863 Agree. Our Breville toaster oven with a convection button cost more than double the $100 limit for this video, but it takes the place of an air fryer and toaster and oven. Plus Ikea makes a bamboo cutting board that fits on top of the oven so that space can be useful. I put two carpenter's pencils under the cutting board for heat and air circulation. It doesn't get that hot, though. My daughter walked in while I was toasting a cheese sandwich and said it smelled like Subway. I guess that's good?!?
The funny thing is, I like my toast to be a bit unevenly toasted especially for the sort of loaf being toasted here. I have cut slices unevenly sometimes to get that effect. Call me rustic.
For the immersion blender I have found tilting the container so everything goes to one side makes it easier to blend everything and prevent the splashback that can happen from food being too shallow/the blender not being fully immersed
Having a small kitchen I try to keep my appliances to a minimum. I no longer have a toaster (used to have a toaster oven) I “toast” by buttering my bread and basically fry it in my cast iron pan on the stove like a toasted cheese sandwich.
Hey I have the Braun immersion blender! I had to use it for whipped cream because I gave my kids my mixers. It worked fine, not as nice as a mixer but doable.
We love to make potato (sweet potato or regular potato) latkes in the waffle iron. We have the Cuisinart griddler which has interchangeable waffle plates. I’ve also made waffled zucchini patties in it.
Not trying to be pedantic, just trying to let you know about a typo if you want to fix it: at 3:49 it has "gluting" in the CC instead of "glutting" the market for Belgian waffles. Love y'all's stuff! Thanks for everything!
When my kids were younger we would all say who we wanted to be when we grew up. My son wanted to be Adam. We have a TON of the seasons on DVD and he would just watch equipment corner sections for hours. He was 8. I always wanted to be Bridget. Anyone who could cook and eat such delicious food and still keep her figure is my idol! Julia is awesome too, but, Bridget mentioned having kids and that makes the whole figure thing even harder... for me anyway. Seriously, ladies, you ALL look great! We used to make a list of the "winning" items we have.
I love the Cuisinart food chopper and have the rounded base version. I'm on my second one as my first one, the lid fell onto the floor and the lock interconnect tab on the lid broke off and no replacements for either the lid or bowl were available, so bought the essentially same style, but in red. Great for small jobs that are not big enough for the 11 Cup Cuisinart. Got the white one in I think 2006 for Christmas and have used it quite frequently since and got the red one last fall. I have the lower end Cuisinart stick blender and like it, but may consider getting a better one down the line with the detachable wand and be more comfortable to use. Picked it up at TJ Maxx a few years back, in red no less as a way to try out, and if I didn't like, I can give it to the GoodWill and not cry over it as I think I paid all of $20 for it. My toaster is the Cuisinart basic white 2 slice toaster and it's way better than the red Oster toaster that was not really reliable and finally it burnt my toast to a smokey crispy black as it would not pop up when it should. Replaced by end of day with the Cuisinart. Being all Cuisinart was mostly coincidental, BTW.
I have a Black & Decker 6 cup food processor, I paid about $35 for years ago, and it has worked great. You don't need a $60 plus processor to do what you have too do.
I LOVE THAT TOASTER. I use it all the time and it's AMAZING. Little hack I do with that toaster is fold a tortilla halfway and toast it to my liking (I love charcoal coloring barely stating to happen), take it out quickly and fill with cheese close it back to half and nuke for 20-30 seconds. It is so crispy and easy! The laziest fastest tastiest quesadilla - you're welcome.
Blender container you drink from? You don’t say. My grandmother’s Oster Regency, which she passed along to me, shares a base with the smaller Mason jars. That opens up a world of possibilities. Plus, it also does a whole lot more. Personal blenders, pbbbt.
Can you review meat grinders, and discuss their possible versatility? I have been trying to find a small, quiet, and powerful enough to handle grinding soft bone for my 2 cats and other prep. Prices range drastically and reviews are hard to rely on, sometimes contradicting manufacturer's recommendations, Thanks!!
I have the Cuisinart mini and I think chop spins the blade one way and grind the other, not 2 different speeds. "The smartpower blade has a patented auto-reversing ability with a sharp edge for delicate chopping and pureeing soft foods, while the blunt edge grinds through spices and harder foods."
Yep, exactly correct. I don't have that exact Cuisinart chopper model, but the one with the more rounded base, in red but functionally speaking, it's identical in every other way. Great for small jobs where even a 7 cup processor may be too big for some jobs.
Regarding the Ninja blender: It blends at an uncomfortable decibel that my ears hurt and my parrot in the next room was in shock and remained huddled and quiet the whole day.
I don't get cheap appliances unless I'm confident they'll be used frequently and I don't have anything that could reasonably do the same work. It's not good to buy a bunch of junk that'll end up in a landfill after 5 years. If you already have a large dependable food processor, that aioli could be made with a hand mixer or that stick blender. Toast can be made in a dry pan or under a broiler. Broilers with some babysitting create similar results to air fryers. If you have a larger blender already it's wasteful to buy a smaller blender just for smoothies.
I bought the Instant Pot air fryer. I don't need a toaster anymore! Love my air fryer it does just about everything. Between having the instant pot air fryer and the instant pot pressure cooker, you don't need any other appliances in the kitchen anymore outside of my coffee machine, of course 😁
Although Belgian waffles are generally fatter, the real difference is that they are made with yeast as opposed to being a quick bread (baking powder, baking soda and buttermilk, etc.)
@@sandrah7512 Many thanks for your reply - very kind! It was the amount of oil that the mini processor would accommodate without an overflow that concerned me. Seems like about 1 1/2 cups of vegetable oil and a small amount of olive oil. It seemed to work on the video ... we'll see!

thank you ladies!
I have never made enough waffles to justify owning and storing a waffle maker
Same with me, too.
Same here. And I only need one food processor. I did purchase an immersion blender a few years ago and love it, especially for smoothing hot liquids.
We only make them around twice a year. And that's enough. Waffles!
That's because you don't own a waffle maker.
Missing out especially if kids or special weekends
Having a small kitchen I try to keep my appliances to a minimum. I no longer have a toaster (used to have a toaster oven) I “toast” by buttering my bread and basically fry it in my cast iron pan on the stove like a toasted cheese sandwich.
Thanks for the info. It really comes in handy.
Remembering the ‘64-‘65 Worlds Fair waffles. Soooo tasty!
Great video as always! I want the Braun!
Great video, thank you!
Not trying to be pedantic, just trying to let you know about a typo if you want to fix it: at 3:49 it has "gluting" in the CC instead of "glutting" the market for Belgian waffles. Love y'all's stuff! Thanks for everything!
Very helpful video! Thank you,
When my kids were younger we would all say who we wanted to be when we grew up.
I have a 25 yr old mini cuisinart processor. Haven’t had to sharpen.
Excellent reviews!! Thank you ❤
Very informative, thank you!
Great duo
I have a Black & Decker 6 cup food processor, I paid about $35 for years ago, and it has worked great. You don't need a $60 plus processor to do what you have too do.
Thank you for the link to the Nutribullet.
Loved this!! Thanks so much!!
Thank you 😊
Can you review meat grinders, and discuss their possible versatility? I have been trying to find a small, quiet, and powerful enough to handle grinding soft bone for my 2 cats and other prep. Prices range drastically and reviews are hard to rely on, sometimes contradicting manufacturer's recommendations, Thanks!!
FYI Belgian waffles were the signature food item of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair
I love my Foodi Ninja XL Pro oven and Instant Pot. I haven't used an oven in 2 years.
Thank you! 😊
Bought in Lidl for 15 euros - the best blender ever
Those are really nice Kitchen Appliances Under $100
Regarding the Ninja blender: It blends at an uncomfortable decibel that my ears hurt and my parrot in the next room was in shock and remained huddled and quiet the whole day.
May have to buy it for my friend with a noisy parrot.
You girls are great. Awesome job.
Belgian waffles were introduced at the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle. I was there! Yum!
Showing the Smeg toaster, that any Red Dwarf fans would find wildly amusing. 🤣
I love mini appliances. So much easier all around!
Growing up my Mom would make homemade waffles for Sundays morning. These were so good that we would eat the extras plain diring the rest of the day.
My favorite waffle iron was square and you could flip the plates and make the best grill cheese.
Hi Lisa! Thanks for the mini processor review. Would you please give us the recipe for the garlic mayonnaise you made? It looks like a winner!
@@sandrah7512 Many thanks for your reply - very kind! It was the amount of oil that the mini processor would accommodate without an overflow that concerned me. Seems like about 1 1/2 cups of vegetable oil and a small amount of olive oil. It seemed to work on the video ... we'll see!
Hannah you started it so now we need the full 'Toaster' story. it has to be good! LOL
I recently began following you and I love you guys. My problem is, I want to buy everything you recommend. I’m have Amazon open during the video and add to my cart. Thanks.
Quick to figure out how to operate. Easy to use
