Welcome to my UA-cam channel. My name is Geraldine Ngibu Djetkeu. I am a Cameroonian based in Johannesburg, South Africa. In this video, I share with you the names of different things as they are being called in South Africa versus Cameroon; my homeland😊🥰. This is all based on my encounter with South Africans as a Cameroonian based in South Africa. Some of the names are pronunciation difference😂😂😂. These were also #cultureshock to me as I live in #SouthAfrica.

In Durban we call it a sink, first time I hear that other people call it Zinc. I know that a Pullover is a sleeveless jersey
In South Africa 🇿🇦 we mix English with Afrikaans if you understand Afrikaans you will understand South African.

Some words especially from the shops are influenced by the market if the majority of clothing shops are originally from USA then they call things with American english but if its Britain shops we use their english and then endup uaing all words such as Pants and trousers. Ww have a variety of international shops and they also jave an influence

Im South African residing in Ghana, Cameroon might be situated in central Africa, but by the sound of it, and listening to your comparisons, it sounds as if cameroon has very close ties to the western African culture...
On Flower you got it wrong in your explaination, A BOUQUET is a numbers/group of flowers put togather therefore a BOUQUET therefore a BOUQUET can not be refered as a Flower (single) and finaly they might sound the same but the pronunciation a slightly different at the end Flower has the W pronunciation at the end while Flour has the U pronunciation but since english is second languages, how we pronunciation english words is also affected by our 1st individual langauges

Where in SA they call robot only, i know since i was young that they are also called traffic light 😊
In Johannesburg. Especially in taxis, when someone is getting off after a traffic light. They say, “ after robot”😂😂😂😂. I have never heard a South African refer to it as traffic light. Most people I have met call it robot
Rubber is a UK english. Eraser is an American English. Robot is any programmed apparatus to perform a particular function,so traffic lights are programmed and therefore they are robots too.
Taxis are mini-buses, we call it Benz or Mercedes
Hi Geraldine, pap is an Afrikaans word. I am Pedi and pap ka Sepedi ke bogobe . It's got different names accross all our languages.
I'm sure you are mixing some of these. In Cameroon we speak n pronounce British however the French/pidgin connotation as well as native languages has transformed the way people speak but that doesnot make it phonetically correct..e.g ballerie is a French word meaning flat shoes. Pullover is a general word for any sweater or warm clothing worn over the neck..hoodie is also used in CMR. These are pullovers with a cap attachment..

At schools, the proper English is being spoken and written. Pidgin English is not taught at schools. The pidgin English can written and spoken when communicating with friends. It’s similar to what South Africans call “kasi” language.
Zink is actually accurate. The roof is call tin.. tin roof.
Rubber, were wrong for that one. But robot makes sense. As an example, imagine the robots in StarWars. The light are robots just like calculators are computers. It's a very basic robot 🤖
As for cashier, you just said the same thing twice. Khashiya is just the African way

Bakala in English is called cornrows
Pants is an American, trousers is UK English.
We call it RUBBER not ROBBER. We call it ROBO T because we are Sout Africans and not cameroonians. We are not trying to be like makwerekwere.
