Now I can finally say it: if you go back to episode 2 you can see Berthold, Reiner and Annie in the crowd of Shiganshina survivors in line to receive bread. According to their (false) backstory they should be somewhere completely different. The camera even lingers on them for a sec, if I remember it right. If you go back to where Eren first transforms into a titan, you’ll see Reiner, Berthold and Annie be the first to try to go to him, and they’re always very curious/asking questions. If you go back to episode 4 (or is it 5?Edit: it’s this episode at around 17:38) of this season, Berthold is about to bite his hand when Ymir transforms and makes the tower fall. Reiner and Annie have a few weird conversations in season 1. Berthold is insistent that Reiner is not a warrior anymore. Annie said a lot about that as well. The foreshadowing in this show is crazy! Maybe watch it again after you finish the series, it blew my mind.
Also remember that Reiner said " we were just children" and "I don't know what's right or wrong anymore".... the first one hits hard if you calculate back how young they were indeed when launching their first attack on Erens hometown
And they've had to live this whole time knowing they are directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, between just the two of them....

After this episode, a lot of season one makes you go "OHHHHH". When Eren's titan first falls down, Annie, Bert and Reiner are the ones telling everyone to try and save it. When Eren blocks the cannonball, those three are the first ones to go up over the wall and check it out because they KNOW what it sounds like when a Titan transforms. There's a dozen tiny little hints and lingering scenes that you don't pick up on the first time through.
When Reiner goes to 'attack' annie/female titan in season one (right before she grabs him and he passes on Eren's location to her) he takes off his hood before he uses his ODM gear so that she can recognize him even tho they decided not 2 seconds ago to keep the hoods up so that she couldn't tell if they were Eren or not. Small details like these leave me learning new thing on even my 5th rewatch of the show.
Reiner seems so fit and muscular, makes him look like he's armored and ready to fight Bertholdt so tall, his height is almsot colossal..... 😂😂😂 (finally was able to say this!)
Fun Fact: When Mikasa attacks Reiner, he gets blood all over him and his right hand is cut off (though, unlike in manga, his hand is not seen). When he rams Mikasa off the wall, his right hand is shown undamaged and there is no blood on him except where her blade protrudes from his left hand. When he and Bertholdt start to transform, he is bloody again and missing his right hand. This error is corrected in the blu-ray release 🤔🤔🤔 (Ep6)

Basically, all the questions will eventually be answered, the mystery, questions and eventually the reveals are what make this show so good in terms of plot and pace. And the amazing music composition turns the quality and emotions up a notch too.

Oh its THIS episode..Reiner and Barcelona's secret..yep..always breaks my brain thinking how fcking peak cinema this scene was. Anyway AOT is famous for its second rewatch. As in like once you see it the second or third time, you start sweating realizing there was everything laid out right infront of you, you just didnt think much of it.
I recommend the Attack on Titan Suite, its features some of the music from the show (no spoilers) and you can see the artists that performed them. It sounds BETTER than it does in the show believe it or not.
I can't wait for you to get to the episodes that have the answers to all these questions..... It's such a long, painful journey, but it's so worth it when you get there, and such a great story. I'm glad I waited for whole seasons to come out so I could binge it. I couldn't imagine how bad waiting for episodes week to week would have been, especially this one.

Theres a BUNCH of amazing foreshadowing throughout this story. Even in s2 ep5, when the tower is coming down and ymir is going up to grab her friends- Bertholt can be seen holding his hand looking like hes about to bite it!
The subtlest hint I've seen for those two is from a few episodes back, when their squad was confined in that castle with no gear & had to sit around in street clothes. Everyone was just kinda hanging out waiting but Reiner and Berthold were playing chess, thinking ahead and planning their next moves. Well shortly after that, Armin without his horse, Jean and Reiner were stuck outside the walls. With only two horses, Armin offered to get left behind but on ONE condition. That Reiner report "something" directly to commander Erwin. Assuming that the scouts think happened between Reiner and Annie is true, and that they are indeed coconspirators, and assuming that "something" was Annie's identity as the Female, its possible Reiner might have killed Armin and Jean if he knew Armin knew about Annie, but Historia came with an extra horse so we will never know.
