It really does suck because most of the headcannon devs seem really passionate, Stealth knows his stuff. They also got the youtuber named A+ Start behind all a lot of the visuals and other talented people on this project, yet somehow it didn’t all come together. I’m shocked that Jun Senoue had a huge part in Sonic 3 & K’s OST because it really isn’t the quality I’d expect from him. Then again, it does match his Sonic 4 work so I’m not sure. The guys that worked on the Sonic CD cutscenes are also really talented but for some reason both endings were completely butchered and sped up. They also no longer play sound effects in the JP version’s intro, and both outros have no sound at all. This game should have been an easy home run, another Mania. Instead it’s just okay
Looks like Westside Island is missing a few zones. Where's Casino Night, Mystic Cave (They could have at least made an entrance to the cave), and Metropolis? Wing Fortress and the Death Egg should also have been above like Sky Sanctuary is on Angel Island

(on Angel Island) - Eggman doing the funky chicken on Sonic 2's island - Eggman throwing a tantrum on Sonic 3's Angel Island after beating Sonic 2 - The Death Egg crashing into Angel Island...twice - They put Flickies Island on there! - Tails sometimes gets in his plane & flying around an island - They actually made models for the Sonic CD badniks Things that confuse/bother me: - They didn't add Rosie the Rascal (Amy) on the Sonic CD island - They didn't add Knuckles on Angel Island (Sonic 3 island) - They added Tails to Sonic 1's island. Couldn't he only appear there once you beat Sonic 2? - Why did they put the Sonic Spinball island here? It's a completely different Sonic Canon/Universe, the SATAM Sonic Canon. - They didn't reference Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. I know it's not canon (it's AoStH Canon), but they still referenced Sonic Spinball inside the main series canon. So why is it not here? - Why did they not put flowers on the Sonic CD Island after completing it? Flowers come out of badniks in Sonic CD, & flowers are everywhere in the Good Future, because all the badniks get destroyed. - They didn't put Flickies & Squirrels in Sonic 1's island; they're literally there as soon as you start to destroy badniks in Green Hill. - They didn't put Eagles, Turtles & Rats in Sonic 2's island; they're new animals that appear in Sonic 2 that appear when you destroy badniks. And eagles even appear in the canon Super Sonic ending - Again, there's no eagles in Angel Island, & yet again, they appear in the true ending, along with dolphins
Yeah, very pretty. If only they'd spent this much time on making sure these 25+ year old games run without any new issues, and gave us real gameplay options apart from "Play in widescreen for coins' or play in 4:3 with lives"
This game should have been an easy home run. Super old games. 3/4 versions of the game were already released, combine those together, give Headcannon the time they needed to polish S3 & K, and make it so you were given a variety of options including changing whether you want coins or lives, making the screen filter sharp or soft, and giving you all the playable characters in each of the games. As far as I’m concerned, the islands should have been the last thing they worked on. It’s cool to have, but only on top of a fully polished product, not one with glaring issues
I have a lot of nitpicks about this. But I'll go in order of games. *Sonic 1*: I actually don't really mind this one. I just really wish there was some extra variety and make sure to reference all stages. *Sonic CD*: This one certainly upsets me. First, when choosing an island remotely close to Never lake, you can see a huge chunk of landmass. But why can't we explore it? Second, was Sega really too lazy to add more animations for Metal Sonic? He doesn't even get the iconic finger wag! I also think as another swappable island, maybe as a pregame thing, but to have Little Planet start out unrobotosized. *Sonic 2*: I don't have much against this one as well. I just really wish they referenced Mystic Cave, Wing Fortress, and the Death Egg. (It would be so cool to be able to either see check out the Death Egg in space by itself, or have it floating above West Side Island. *Sonic 3&K*: Not gonna lie, this might be my favorite island. It basically shows everything that happens in Sonic 3&K. Even with the waterfall from Launch Base being Hydrocity Zone/Angel Island Act 2 boss. Speaking of Launch Base, the detail of having the Death Egg in Launch Base/Lava Reef in S&K island visual, is neat. I just really wish they had Knuckles as a model. And I wish that Flying battery would float around Angel Island. Yup, that's all for 3&K. *Flicky Island and Veg-O-Fortress*: With these 2 being the smallest, I'll pair them. I don't really care for these islands. They're alright. *Overall Nitpicks* 1. Cone on, there's all this marketing for Knuckles and Amy with Sonic and Tails, but there's no sign of them on the islands. (Or in the games) 2. Why don't we have full island exploration? The 3D island tours remind me of the completed puzzle panels from Street Pass Mii Plaza. Surprisingly Sonic only had one puzzle panel in that game (not counting Smash 4), and it was based off his worst game in the series.

How do you swap between the different versions? Or do they get locked into their finished versions once you finish the games? I thought I saw supersonic flying around my sonic 2 island. Does it matter if you get good or bad endings? Does it matter what characters you use?
I'm not entirely sure about all the specifics, but based on what I played, when you finish the games, you have the ability to swap islands. Finishing Sonic CD lets you swap islands and Sonic 3 & K as well. I beat all the games with the good endings as Sonic, but I don't know if that has an impact on it. Super Sonic floats around all the islands randomly and I believe this changes everytime I boot up the game. There's a set number of animations each character has that usually show up on each island once. For example sometimes Sonic's rowing in the Spinball Island, sometimes he's running around it, and sometimes he can be seen as Super Sonic flying around. It mostly varies.
I hate the islands, this is the reason for high mimimul requeriments for Sonic Origins, the reason for need a good PC to play the game. This and denuvo...
It would have been way cool if after beating Sonic CD Little Planet turned green and unchained instead of disapearing. I get that it's gone because it got back to it's orbit, but Never Lake looks empty without it. Plus the game takes place ON Little Planet. The point of this menu is to see how the places Sonic visits change after he saves them. At the very least eggman's face on the side of the mountain should be on shambles.
Sonic the hedgehog 2 island for some reasom doesnt even try to throw Mystic Cave,Hidden Palace,metropolis and wing fortress nor death egg zone onto the island but i am going to assume that dr. Robotnik is standing on top of mystic cave next to Hilltop zone

How do you unlock the Angel Island variations? I used debug mode to defeat the final boss and Launch's Base Zone's boss but it won't show any of the island variations. It still unlocked the cutscenes.

Wow. They change after you complete chapters. Completed all 4 games and never noticed any changes. Do they change only if you play "Story mode"? Hate the idea of those 3D islands in the menu for classic 2D games. Why 3D? It just doesn't make sense and they don't fit. Also this menu is blurry and working in 30 fps on switch...
One thing that bothers me is where they put hill top on the west side island,they should have put it on the big mountain in the middle instead of where it is right now

never lake isn't the name of the island, it's the name of the lake which can be seen at 15:40 and is featured more prominently in the sonic cd intro the sonic cd island, which is also the sonic 4 island, doesn't really have an official name it probably never will, though sonic fans of some sonic forum called sonic retro have made some sega guy sign a random paper claiming the island was called "mirage island", so there's that

To be fair though Sonic Retro is pretty well known so I guess I should have seen that. Maybe someday we’ll see a full official name, but I even own the Sonic Encyclospeedia and couldn’t get an official name for the full island there either.
Which other variations exist? They either show animals or don’t. If you mean that the islands have different animations for Sonic, Tails and Eggman, then I intentionally didn’t include that because the animations are independent of what happens to the islands themselves

I am starting to get so sick of that Classic Sonic 3D model. I don't dislike it but I always thought it looked too...erm..bubbly? Or happy? Sonic always had a bit of a cooler edge to him and I think some sharper edges or something would have benefited that 3d model.
Its kidda crap that they were lazy doing other models for sonic and tails heck its classic sonic from forces and the tails model is from generation its even the same with eggman and they did not make a model of classic knuckles and there's even the death egg that is from forces too!
So little effort in these, reused models from generations, lost world, overly repetitive animations, a souless remix of Jam's music, animon little planet despite there being NO ANIMALS IN CD

If you look closely on South Island, Sonic Tails & Robotnik all use their Sonic Generations models. (Or at least something similar)

It would have been way cool if after beating Sonic CD Little Planet turned green and unchained instead of disapearing.
I get that it's gone because it got back to it's orbit, but Never Lake looks empty without it.
Plus the game takes place ON Little Planet. The point of this menu is to see how the places Sonic visits change after he saves them.
At the very least eggman's face on the side of the mountain should be on shambles.
Sonic the hedgehog 2 island for some reasom doesnt even try to throw Mystic Cave,Hidden Palace,metropolis and wing fortress nor death egg zone onto the island but i am going to assume that dr. Robotnik is standing on top of mystic cave next to Hilltop zone

How do you unlock the Angel Island variations? I used debug mode to defeat the final boss and Launch's Base Zone's boss but it won't show any of the island variations. It still unlocked the cutscenes.
The other Variations of the Island Don't unlock if you're playing in debug mode sadly.

my one question is: are you able to swap them out? like, after you beat the respective games, are you allowed to interchange between the different island variations?
To be honest, the islands change, because if you beat every game it changes to either good ending or bad ending it changes each ending
Bizarre they didn't add sonic face fireworks for the sonic CD menu after beating the game.
Would have been a neat thing to have the fireworks when you hit a button just to make them appear! oh well
Wow. They change after you complete chapters. Completed all 4 games and never noticed any changes. Do they change only if you play "Story mode"?
Hate the idea of those 3D islands in the menu for classic 2D games. Why 3D? It just doesn't make sense and they don't fit. Also this menu is blurry and working in 30 fps on switch...
One thing that bothers me is where they put hill top on the west side island,they should have put it on the big mountain in the middle instead of where it is right now

never lake isn't the name of the island, it's the name of the lake which can be seen at 15:40 and is featured more prominently in the sonic cd intro
the sonic cd island, which is also the sonic 4 island, doesn't really have an official name it probably never will, though sonic fans of some sonic forum called sonic retro have made some sega guy sign a random paper claiming the island was called "mirage island", so there's that
@@firecreeper2249 that’s some interesting deep lore! I find it’s always super important stuff like that which somehow always ends up being found in obscure locations like random forums lol. To be fair though Sonic Retro is pretty well known so I guess I should have seen that. Maybe someday we’ll see a full official name, but I even own the Sonic Encyclospeedia and couldn’t get an official name for the full island there either.

Which other variations exist? They either show animals or don’t. If you mean that the islands have different animations for Sonic, Tails and Eggman, then I intentionally didn’t include that because the animations are independent of what happens to the islands themselves

I don't dislike it but I always thought it looked too...erm..bubbly? Or happy?
Sonic always had a bit of a cooler edge to him and I think some sharper edges or something would have benefited that 3d model.
I kinda wish he felt more like Toei Sonic in the CD cutscenes. Something about that design strikes the perfect balance of cool and bubbly

Its kidda crap that they were lazy doing other models for sonic and tails heck its classic sonic from forces and the tails model is from generation its even the same with eggman and they did not make a model of classic knuckles and there's even the death egg that is from forces too!

It's been a year since I started producing and I had started from tNice tutorials tutorial. Ca back to it now and I rember how happy I was to
The things I love about this are:
- Sonic's animations on Sonic 1's island; he does the foot tap & the finger wag 😊
- Metal Sonic! (on Sonic CD's island)
- The floating barrel of doom! (on Angel Island)
- Eggman doing the funky chicken on Sonic 2's island
- Eggman throwing a tantrum on Sonic 3's Angel Island after beating Sonic 2
- The Death Egg crashing into Angel Island...twice
- They put Flickies Island on there!
- Tails sometimes gets in his plane & flying around an island
- They actually made models for the Sonic CD badniks
Things that confuse/bother me:
- They didn't add Rosie the Rascal (Amy) on the Sonic CD island
- They didn't add Knuckles on Angel Island (Sonic 3 island)
- They added Tails to Sonic 1's island. Couldn't he only appear there once you beat Sonic 2?
- Why did they put the Sonic Spinball island here? It's a completely different Sonic Canon/Universe, the SATAM Sonic Canon.
- They didn't reference Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. I know it's not canon (it's AoStH Canon), but they still referenced Sonic Spinball inside the main series canon. So why is it not here?
- Why did they not put flowers on the Sonic CD Island after completing it? Flowers come out of badniks in Sonic CD, & flowers are everywhere in the Good Future, because all the badniks get destroyed.
- They didn't put Flickies & Squirrels in Sonic 1's island; they're literally there as soon as you start to destroy badniks in Green Hill.
- They didn't put Eagles, Turtles & Rats in Sonic 2's island; they're new animals that appear in Sonic 2 that a
every single 3d model and their animaiton on those island is reused from sonic generation(the characters) or sonic lost world(the badnicks)
that's why amy and knuckles aren't there
