Thank you for this, after gardening in-ground the past few years, I decided not only to do containers, but find a way to not have to bend over or squat down to tend to them. This is a good idea!
I always enjoy your uploads, primarily because you portray the love of gardening that I've always had. I've been gardening 65+ years and now that I'm very stiff with arthritis it makes it very difficult to do as much as I like to do. Last year was a tough year in my area of the U.S. and my wife and I worked hard for everything we got. I need to construct raised beds to help myself with the bending. Thanks for your uploads. Tom
That is so awesome! I never would have thought to put cucumbers in a hanging basket! I can't wait when my plants start to sprout. We have had a garden for a long time now and all but the onion chives died after the freeze storm! It was so sad all our hard work washed away. But we are doing better than ever now! Thank you for teaching me some tips!
Hello Javier, it's still bit early. to start them outdoors here in So Cal, but as long as I bring them in at night, they should be OK. I always tend to push the envelope, lol. Thanks for watching!
thank you so much for this video! i'm so happy know that smart pots do basket liners! SO Excited to try peas in a hanging basket! Another layer of production you could consider is showing pictures of the mature plants as you're planting the seeds. Seeing the mature plant will help me see your vision! Thanks so much Cali Kim, you continue to inspire my garden in Chicago!
Hi Kim. I love growing red Salvia in hanging baskets adjacent to our windows to bring in Hummingbirds which help pollinate the other crops. I'm in Zone 5B suburban Chicago. Love your videos!
Lettuce in a hanging basket ... what a great idea!! I couldn’t figure out how the drip irrigation in the peas basket worked. Was it hooked up to the main water? And I had no idea you could put cucumbers in a hanging basket. Great video which had given me some fun ideas to try.
Love the suggestion for hanging baskets. I only got one right now. It has citronella in it. Idk the size pot it is. I’m really amazed on the cucumber being able to be planted in a small space. Learned something new again. Thank you so much. Love your videos.
Hi Kim! I never considered using my hanging baskets for veggies. I love that trellis. How about growing more beans, zucchini, or a tomato plant. It will give the trellis some color. Thanks for the tips!
I'm always looking for new places to grow more vegetables. I grow some vertically, but I never thought of growing them in pots. I'll be trying this in the spring!
Thanks for the info Kim! Love your channel, a lot of useful info n tips for gardening. I am now doing hanging vegetable gardening - I plant veggies in plastic bottles made out of mineral water bottles and commercial hanging pots/containers, I hang them from my perimeter fencing, even from branches of my big mango tree! Haha! Malaysian here watching from Malaysia in these trying depressed stressed Covid times!
Ooooooohhhhhh some time, you should definitely try to grow your nasturtiums in the cooler season in the hanging basket. The seeds in your cool weather seed collection is the jewel mix I believe, and those are a trailing type of nasturtiums, So they look really nice when hanging in a basket. That’s what I suggest when temps get cooler in the fall!
Your videos are always so very interesting. I enjoy watching them learning how to plant seeds correctly. Thank you very much for taking time to make videos I want to try your smart pots one of these days.
Hey Vicki! Absolutely, milk containers are a creative and eco-friendly choice for hanging baskets! They can be easily transformed into cute planters, and they’re lightweight too. Just cut out the bottom and make a few holes for drainage, then fill with potting soil and your favorite flowers or herbs. It’s a great way to repurpose something that might otherwise end up in the landfill! Thanks for watching and don’t forget to give this video a a thumbs up and subscribe for more fun gardening tips! Happy planting!
Very cute dog🐶 my baby also helps me when m gardening.hey nice informative. Which vegetables we can grow in hanging baskets where they will all year round.
Hi Kim & Jerry (Cameraguy)!🤗 Great video and tips! Love those smartpot hanging basket liners! The coco coir do dry out then start to fall apart. Love your trellis as well! Plant some scarlet runner beans at the bottom of your trellis. I put my hanging baskets on double Shepard's hook, single heavy duty Shepard's hook, and hooks on my patio privacy fence. I will planting herbs, sweet basil, hot peppers, and super sweet 100 tomatoes in them. I will be following your lead/videos!🥰 Be blessed and safe! 🦋1/25/2021🦋
Great ideas - I liked your idea of planting salad in hanging baskets, far away from the slugs and mice on the ground. The Gardener's Arch is my favourite. Maybe you want to plant one of your baby pumpkins beneath? ;-)
I love the lettuce and peas idea! I wouldn't expect a very big harvest from cucumbers though. Also those basket liners look a bit small for the baskets. I found EZ Swap fabric liners last year that look the same as these but fit much better.
I loved this content. I've been giving thought to more vertical vegetable planting, and hanging baskets was one idea I considered, now upon seeing your wonderful baskets, I'm definitely going to give them a whirl! The trellis with the peas is just gorgeous, you could try some climbing French Beans, some of the purple ones would look great. Mac in his red bandana, and you in your red wellies are just adorable 😄❤
My main concern is earwigs and slugs in my lettuce. Is my assumption correct that these pest won't crawl up the steel posts and into the baskets? Or should I coat the posts with a sticky coating?
Hi Carol, the cucumbers themselves are light enough and won't need support. Hope you can grow in hanging baskets along with me, stay tuned for more videos as the veggies grow! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Donna, drip works great for hanging baskets as they dry out so quickly and isn't as hard as you think! I install it in baskets using the same method I do for the rest of my containers (bit.ly/CaliKimContainersSetUpDripIrrigation), run the water supply tube down the pole of the hook (attach it to the pole with plant clips or twine) and connect it up to my container drip system. Stay tuned for a future video on watering hanging baskets for more details! Thanks for watching!
I have a friend who lives in Nigeria and growing vegetables would help her family but she doesn't have the space. What is the most inexpensive way she can grow vegetables in very little space ? Thank you.
Container gardening. Preferably fabric containers but if she can't find those out there, some people can grow in buckets, (with drilled holes at the bottom). Hope this helps - CK

Hi CDS - hanging baskets are perfect for you! You'll can grow so much in them, herbs, strawberries, even cherry tomatoes. Keep me posted!
@@CaliKim29 Oooooh, I didn't think about strawberries! I think this has rekindled my motivation for this spring!
I love the idea of planting scarlet runners in the basket. The beautiful flowers cheer me and the beans are really tasty! Thanks for the suggestion.

That's a very cute trellis. I would like to see the peas that way you can watch them growing up in the middle and down on the sides.
I love that you can start cucumbers early in southern California. Zone 10A and 10B are great areas. Good looking garden

I think an indeterminate 🍅 would grow up your trellis and be a wonderful flavor addition

How do you connect the drip irrigation in the baskets? Is it just hanging down the side?
Thank you for this video Kim and camera guy xoxoxo lot's of love from Oregon.

1 piece of advice: try to avoid the water getting on the leaves, since that can spread diseases.
