  • This year's monsoon rains in Pakistan have caused the most destructive floods in most people's memories.
Some provinces have received more than five times the average rainfall since June.
The climate change minister has called it a 'climate-induced humanitarian disaster of epic proportions'.
More than 1,100 people have died, and hundreds of thousands are homeless.
Can Pakistan cope with the resulting humanitarian crisis?
    Presenter: Rob Matheson
    Guests:
Dawar Butt - Environment policy analyst
Sara Hayat - Lawyer specialising in climate change policy
Peter Ophoff - Head of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Pakistan

Pakistan is an enemy of most Western countries. Pakistan has provided direct military and intelligence aid to Taliban and Haqqani terrorists resulting in the deaths of U.S. soldiers, Afghan security personnel, and civilians, plus significant destabilization of Afghanistan.

Sadly Bangladesh are used to it and have made the defences of their capabilities, apparently Pakistan has got the third most snow after north and South Pole, so it was a combination of monsoon rain on steroids and vasts amounts of snow that melted.

This is going to be very painful for Pakistan in and it's people. A weak economic situation will further fuel the situation. Indian and bangladesh are also facing similar issue ,but despite the enormity of it both Bangladesh and India have a much better infrastructure, disaster control management and economic security to manage it. For Pakistan it would be very difficult to build that infra because the next cyclonic floods will be arriving by 2027-2028. Pakistan wouldn't Even be able to recover from this 2022 mega floods . So Pakistan is stuck in this vicious cycle due to it's weak economy and missed developmental goals over the years.

But the hotels themselves as a part of tourism were very vital for the developing economy and the external foreign trade economy for that country and so any compromise on the locational specifications would compromise their productivity

Aljazeera did a Pakistani floods special 10 years ago. What if anything has been done since then. 10 year is a long time to plan and implement a crisis package. And a long time to work out what rivers and hills will burst or crumble. The climate change did not happen over night. Yet again greed and power have left people vulnerable. This is a tragedy that is going to get worse with hunger and health problems.

10 billion $ is just the initial estimate of how much infrastructure has been destroyed. The net damage would be much more than that. With an already struggling economy I am not sure how Pakistan government is going to cope with it. I am afraid that with rise in missery of people extremists will be able to influence even more people.
I hope both India and Pakistan realize that climate change poses a bigger risk to the two countries compared to what they do to each other. Instead of fighting over issues that can be handled in the future they shall work to improve their capabilities to deal with climate change for atleast next 3 decades to come.

Control the robust increase in population, no buildings on river banks, more plantation, no wastage going to rivers, new and enlightened leadership, use of technology and proper planning and development will minimize the damage of such calamities, that's it. But, in a fanatic society such as Pakistan the priorities are not what I'm saying. Pakistan is already on downward trajectory and such devastations will just faster the down fall sooner than later. If Pakistan isn't contributing to global emissions then why it's getting affected more than those who are emitting more to global warming? This is because Pakistan has poor planning and humongous population. Now, to feed that much people and to shelter them you need to destroy nature and that destruction is bound to cause more destruction such as this flood. So, radical changes are needed but I don't think, things gonna change because such calamities are kind of blessing in disguise for the elite here in Pakistan. All who has to suffer are the poor and down drowen sections of the society.

Now taste the result of your cruelty. As long as I know flooding happens in Pakistan every year. Allah keeps warning you munafiqs repeatedly to stop bloodshed and terrorizing innocent Afghans and the world, but you are completely deaf and blind to his warnings. Are we headed towards an apocalyptic disaster that would dwarf the devastation caused by the unprecedented floods ?
The trauma of deaths and destruction caused by the deluge have temporarily masked the enormity of the ravages and losses suffered by the flood victims which would become apparent in all it’s, ruinous magnitude when the ongoing emergency relief work is drawing to a close .
People who have lost everything, their houses/shelters ,their livelihoods , their savings , their crops and their livestock , cannot be placated by measly handouts of limited rations and tents etc . Their desperation and angst is even now more than visible . With the passage of time it would exacerbate further and burst forth like lava from a volcano .
Fear the day when the indigent , the penniless , whose very livelihood has been washed away would rise . Fear the day when unmindful of any coercive force ,the hungry mobs go on a rampage in towns and cities and any settlement within their reach . They would have nothing to lose but their unbearable miseries . But no , the current dispensation , smugly unaware of how the after effects of this catastrophe are likely to unfold , is busy settling scores . It is business as usual for them . God have mercy upon us !
