Slow living isn’t a trend for me. It's a lifestyle I have embraced for years; I learned it from my mom and grandma. We always just took our time to enjoy the beauty of the everyday. I’m a romantic at heart, with a practical lifestyle approach to “keep it simple.” I grew up on a farm, which furthered my love of simplicity and back to the basics mindset.
We moved six months ago to our cozy cottage, and we are in the process of fixing it up. I strive to make our home cozy and inviting no matter what remodeling stage we are in. Making a home hygge and cozy is just a normal way of life for me, and I can’t imagine it any other way.

Hello I was crusing through youtube and saw you. but really what caught my ear is I heard you mention Sault Ste. Marie, and the U.P. I don't normally hear anyone from this my area on youtube. anyway I live in Kinross Mi, and I enjoy watch your UA-cam channel.
Hello, and welcome to the channel 😊 U.P. Is a beautiful place to live ❤️
Thanks for commenting back.
My grandma gave me a recipe for chicken salad, that's was a hit at each of our 4 children's high school graduation party and at their college graduation family celebrations. It has cooked rice, Mandarin oranges, pineapple tidbits, sliced grapes, slivered almonds, chicken (I've used roasted chicken and canned chicken and like the roasted chicken best, but love the ease of opening several cans of canned chicken!). The dressing has mayo, oj, oil, and a few other things. I marinate overnight, the cooked chicken pieces in orange juice and oil, and add it to the rice and other ingredients, with miracle whip and seasoning. It goes farther, because of the added cooked rice and fruit. We always served it with small croissants and crackers, for guests to choose what they wanted to put it on.
Oh my goodness, that sounds amazing! I'm going to try that out :) Thank you.
OH, that snow is blowing. love the video. I also love my digital canner
Thank you :) And yes, the snow is falling hard lately!
Thank you for sharing your cooking!! You are so kind!!❤
❤️☺️❤️
Pickled garlic!! Oh wow.
Yummy stuff :)
Mistake in the video oops * it is not double the brine is more like 4x Sorry for the blooper. The recipe is on the blog... Pickled garlic www.forgottenwayfarms.com/forgotten-way-farms-blog/pickled-smoked-garlic
I made tuna gravy over buttered toast the other day! Yum! My mom always made it! With buttered steamed peas!
It’s sooo good! I love it with peas too 🧡
I have always been intimidated in the kitchen but you make it look so easy. Thank you for creating these videos and giving us a peek into your kitchen. So inspiring.
You are so welcome! Take it one step at a time and have fun with it, soon you will be comfortable in the kitchen :)
You are such an inspiration!! I could listen to you explain every step of a recipe and be able to replicate it well! You're a born teacher, girl! And gifted! Thank you.
Goodness, thank you. ☺️❤️🥰
I started off eating sausage gravy with biscuits for breakfast (one of my favorite breakfasts!). After eating hamburger gravy at a local dairy farmers home one day for lunch, I've started making a hamburger gravy with Montreal steak seasoning - it's great over mashed potatoes or could go over biscuits as well.
Yes, my mom made it that way :) SOOO good!
Abbie joe, your cinematography and background music are amazing, very well choreographed. Good clean clear focused
Thank you, my husband is good with the camera and editing ☺️
Oh my gosh you make it look easy. I’m ready to give all of it ago.
Yay! I love hearing that :)
I love how soothing your channel is. I also greatly appreciate how you take the time to fully explain what you are doing, how you use the foods and tips along the way. Your detail is much appreciated.

I’m so glad you enjoyed this video ❤️ I love that it can be helpful 😊
Everything looks delicious, love to watch your channel.
Awww 🥰 thank you!
Thank you so much for a great video. The idea for the garlic came at the right time! I have quite a bit of garlic stored from last year's harvest and want to preserve it, using the method you did in the video. You are an awesome cook!!👍👏
Perfect for all that garlic 🙌 ❤️😊
Hi Abby-Jo
I’m really interested in how you balance cooking from fresh such as your chicken dinner v using up your store cupboard?
I’m getting good at this in my own way but have to be careful not to ignore the freezer stores etc. I’ve realised also that your ‘biscuits and gravy’ is our UK ‘scones and sauce’ - gravy is a different matter altogether. Love to see these different interpretations 😘
I really rotate all the time, from fresh, canned, freezer, and it seems to keep everything in good order :) Will have to show more of my kitchen flow soon. I love that the UK has it's own version of "biscuits and gravy" Lovely!
You are an inspiration to me! You make and serve the most delicious meals!! Love how you canned the garlic and chicken!! Ty for taking the time to share your videos! Absolutely one of the best in the kitchen!!
Thanks so much :)
So glad you are sharing cooking videos again ... I have missed them 💜
More to come!
As always you put out a beautiful video. I love canning and freezer prepping. It is just the two of us, but it is so nice to have something to grab from the shelf and get a nice meal on the table. Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your life and sharing your talent (I am sure you have many more). 🌻
Awww thank you dear! ❤️🥰❤️
I really like ideas for using canned meats .I have my tried and true but i love to add new things to our menu to try. Thanks for sharing .
It’s always nice to add new recipes and ideas to our menus 😊 ❤️
Great to see you back.
Thank you ☺️ we put out a video last week too ❤️
You are an inspiration!!
Awww :) Just want to encourage everyone that they can cook from scratch too!
That was wonderful! I did not know you can but garlic that way. Nice! Love the chicken recipes! ♥️
❤️🙌 glad you enjoyed it!
I just found your channel! I just got the same canner in the mail…. I can’t wait to get tons of ideas from you… thanks for sharing ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
Oh my gosh I’ve just discovered you. I
Love everything. Finally someone who cooks like I like too. So excited to start your recipes.
Welcome to our channel and kitchen, glad you are here :)
Thank you, truly inspiring. I'm a newbie canner and love my digital canner. I would truly be interested in seeing another video on canning meals in a jar. I just canned taco soup and was mighty proud of myself lol lol
I want to film meals in a jar soon! ❤️ that’s awesome you made taco soup 🙌
Love your channel. Fyi you can bake those biscuits from frozen. I do it all the time. I make up 4 batches then put them on a sheet pan to freeze. Once they are somewhat frozen I put them in a ziplock bag in the freezer with baking instructions. We take out 3 or 4 or 6 and bake them up when we want them. Turns out perfect every time.
Great tip! Thank you :)
I really enjoyed and appreciated this video! I bought Old Bay Seasoning and a whole chicken to roast for dinner tomorrow. I have never canned meat before but think I’m ready to try now! Thank you for sharing.
That's wonderful, I hope you enjoy your chicken dinner is delightful :)
I only found your channel a couple of days ago, and am really enjoying it and learning a lot about canning, or bottling as we call it here in the UK. I've always bottled fruit, but steered clear of pressure canning meats and vegetables, as it felt too scary. Seeing you doing it with your digital canner is tempting me to have a go. And cutting the biscuits/scones into rectangles! Why had that never occurred to me? Game changer! Thank you.
Awesome, thank you! So glad you found our channel. I always forget that in the Uk you call it bottling. I love that you are thinking about pressure canning, it's so nice to have stable meat on the shelf :)
Love love love this video. I cook the canned chicken the same way-raw pack. Than you so much Abby for the inspiration. Blessings Helen Montana
Thank you ☺️ canning meat is so great 🙌 I love having it on the shelves ❤️
Thank you for talking about the electric pressure canner, it's an appliance I've thought about trying. All the recipes look great 😊
You are welcome, glad you got some information that might be helpful ❤️
I enjoyed your video so much! ❤
I’m so glad, thank you 😊
Please Please please make more videos like this one. They are Fantastic!!!
Thank you! Will do :)
I’m a new subscriber ,I’m enjoying your videos they give me allot of inspiration!all the best to you and your family
Welcome to our channel ☺️ and thank you!
Hello Abbey Jo. The roasted chicken and the biscuits look amazing. I have never eaten pickled garlic. Really enjoyed seeing a video. Look forward to a thrifting video. Just love learning tips from you in the kitchen.
Thank you dear 🥰 can’t wait to do another thrift video!
Terrific ideas you have! So glad I found your channel. So well done. I have never seen square biscuits before. I like it! As for the canned chicken, I love making nacho plates with chicken, cheese and other things. Yum! I love the taste and quality of fresh home canned chicken. I don’t put salt in the chicken for processing though. I like salt but a little bit goes a long way with my taste buds. LOL. Thank You for sharing this video! ~Sharon from Florida
You are so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, those nacho plates sound amazing! We love nachos here too :)
I can’t believe I never thought to use canned chicken for cold chicken salad sandwiches! I need to make up a few pints for quick lunches now. (I add a half cup of toasted chopped pecans to my chicken salad- heaven!)
It's so nice and easy to whip up a lunch or dinner with the chicken already cooked. I love pecans added to anything! :)
So glad to hear from you .hope all is well.long time since we heard from you
Everything is good, thank you :) We had video out last week, Maybe you missed it?
That pickled garlic must be great . I love having pressure canned meat and meals on the shelf. I have a whole beef rump, I need to do next . Some plain, some into meals for this winter . I love that frozen lemon idea . That sounds fantastic as I love roast chicken with lemon . Yum. My hubby likes canned chicken the best and we sure go through it. Ill probably do some chicken before winter too. I wondered about frozen biscuits/scones and how to use them. Thank you for sharing honey and you two sure make a wonderful team ❤ 😘
I love hearing from you as always, and that you use canned meats as well!! So handy! I think you say scones? right? I love all the similarities and differences in our cooking from different countries. I always enjoy seeing what you cook on IG. Blessings to you!
I love the presto canner .easy can do 2 or 3 a day.
I want to try your pickled garlic sounds good
Yes, it’s so nice 🙌😊🫶
I enjoyed this video so much!!! I want to try to make your pickled garlic canning technique and great tip on the chicken with lemon.
You are so welcome!
Great video!!!
Thank you ☺️
I love my Presto digital too….my AllAmerican still gets plenty of use when I want to double stack or do 7 quarts at a time…..new subscriber here….enjoyed your video
Thanks, Abby Jo, I enjoyed watching it all. I'm from Central NY it's snowing now and very cold. We love anything Asian! I will be trying that recipe, but like you, maybe a little less Sriracha.😘
Hello Kathy, I think you will enjoy the recipe ❤️ and stay warm in that cold weather.
The snow in the background was so wonderful. Thank you for sharing the canning in the digital pressure canner. I recently bought one and haven't overcome the "what if I do something wrong" syndrome yet. I also appreciate you using the canned meat. I have been sorely disappointed in the canned meats I have purchased from grocery stores.
You are so welcome! Excited for you to start using it :)
Hi Abby Jo. This was wonderful. You did an excellent video. So many great ideas. Chicken gravy and biscuits 😋. I'm going to enjoy watching your channel grow.
Hello, and thank you ☺️ I appreciate that encouragement on the channel growing ❤️
@@ForgottenWayFarms You're welcome my dear. Everyone has their season.
@@feliciapillow5860 🥰🥰🥰
Garlic is a super food, also supper food
Yes! 🙌😊
Loved to see you using the Tupperware Citrus peeler. I’ve been canning for several years but have not canned chicken. I am terrified I would do something wrong but you make it look easy.
It really is easy, just follow the directions and you got this :)
Thank you so much! I enjoyed your video.❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ForgottenWayFarms ❤️🤗
just discover youre chanel sooo long yummy tk sharing canning and recipes anxious to make it
Thanks and welcome
I love your video.
Thank you :)
Abby Jo I am enjoying watching you. It has been a great blessing to of found your channel. It is so comforting. Do you homeschool your children? There are so many videos I have not watched yet.
I’m so glad you found us ❤️ yes, I do ☺️ four are already graduated three more to go.
Would love a tour of your pantry xxx
Planning on doing that soon :)
Love your videos and I also love your voice!!!
Thank you, glad to hear that! :)
Coffee breaks are good for the soul and heart
I so agree! ❤️
Although you haven’t stopped working in this video, somehow it’s incredibly calming and relaxing 🥰
I don’t yet have a pressure canner but am considering one. Although I water bath as much as I possibly can.
Can I ask how you decide what to freeze and what to can? For instance the crockpot chicken recipe you said you’d freeze.
Thank you so much from a canning newbie!!
What a good question, I usually can my basics like apple sauce, jams, pickles, meats, fruit, grape juice, pinto and black beans. I do sometimes can soups, and the like. But I like my vegetables mostly frozen, and I like easy Asian and Italian meat mixes that I can throw into the crockpot and later add noodles. I don't have an exact formula, mostly my taste buds :) Glad you are enjoying the videos.
Es hermoso y delicioso todo lo que ases Costa Rica, Centro América te saluda Esther
Would definitely be interested in videos of canning with electric pressure cooker. We are doing our research and want to get one soon. Great video❣
I plan on showing it more. ❤️
If you don't mind my asking, how many children do you have at home? I have been watching your videos, and I think it's awesome that your hubby helps you cook. I love your soothing voice when you're cooking.
Seven children, two are married. And five at home, however it will soon only be four children at home. They grow up too quickly.
Thx so much luv your videos gonna try the biscuits could you do a bread tutorial again thx
So glad you enjoyed the video ☺️ I was thinking of doing several bread tutorials in the future ❤️
Your husband looks like he knows who’s queen of the kitchen, smart man
😂👍😊
Clotted cream, very British. Cream tea
I love all things British :)
You make biscuits the same way I do! Squares are so much easier and keeps every biscuit tender. And homemade strawberry jam on a hot fresh homemade biscuit is definitely one of the best things in life! I’ve never heard of pickled garlic before. I’m curious what you use it for? Btw, your burrito rolling skills are seriously impressive, lol.
Yes, square biscuits are awesome, and so tender 🙌 we love garlic on our baked potatoes 🥔 and pretty much as a side with any savory meal.
I love my instant pot, for root veggies takes no time at all.
Yes, me too :)
I’m here!❤❤❤
Yay! :)
I just found your channel, love everything! Thank you! How do you use the pickled garlic?
Thank you, we put it on salads, a baked potato, smash it on toast, add it to meat. it's so good :)
looks so yummy never had biscuits and gravy (I am from South Africa) def going to try that. can you please post the chicken asian noodle recipe ?
Yes, I will soon. I need to make one more time and nail exactly how much of what I used. Keep an eye out for it. :)
Abby Joe, If I had the money i would pay you an exorbitant amount of money just to cook and vlog. You are an incredible cook.
Awww 🥰 thank you! That’s quite the compliment 😊
Have you ever tried chicken lasagna or grilled cheese chicken sandwiches…really good.
I cooked pork loin that was on sale for $2.49 lb….browned in in the instant pot and then slow cooked. Then I canned it and it’s so good with the browned pieces and bits added to the jars.
I have an electric canner like you but I bought the 4 qrt one so as to use it for left over canning.
Have you ever made sausage for canning and added the dried cream in the jars…since you can’t can gravy with milk products in it.
Also can you freeze those biscuits un baked….there’s two of us and it’d be nice just to bake in my air fryer when needed.
Yes, you can freeze the biscuits :) I love grilled chicken sandwiches, but haven't tried chicken lasagna :) Sausage canned is really good.
Please publish a book with thoughts and recipes a bout your life style. Ty😊
That's a great idea, i will have to think about it :)
I’m new to your channel and I’m really enjoying your content. Your channel is also very calm and relaxing.
My lemon tree isn’t producing enough yet but my orange tree produces abundantly can I freeze oranges? I’m also new to canning so I enjoyed learning about canning garlic. Can I can my own recipes or do I need to follow the Ball recipes? Thank you
Thanks for subbing! Yes, you can. One good way is to cut in halves and freeze so you can juice them as soon as they are defrosted. I would follow recipes from canning manuals or cookbooks that follow the guidelines. :)
I enjoyed your training video!
(the yarn bracelet was not sanitary and touching a lot of stuff).
Thank you :)
I look forward to your videos!! Thank you!! I have have Question. I was told to buy new lids everytime, is this true? I haven't yet and have no issues.
Thank you ☺️ Yes, they do recommend using new lids. I have reused lids for jam before, but I personally wouldn’t with pressure canned food.
Another wonderful video. I would love to see more gluten free dishes. Do you make gluten free biscuits?
I have in the past, but I usually tell people in the video if you can switch the recipe out with GF flour or use cornstarch etc ☺️ biscuits aren’t quite the same with GF flour. I will try to remember to share more GF options.
16 Tablespoons equals 1 cup which is so much easier to measure out.😊
You are right, much easier to measure :)
Good morning, I wanted to start out by saying your wonderful, I just started following you and I'm really enjoying Your UA-cam channel and I appreciate you sharing You are recipes and things with us 🌞 So thank you. On the chicken biscuits and gravy I only have 2 cans of my home can chicken left but several cans of home canned turkey and that would be ok to use instead of the chicken right?
I'm so glad you found our channel :) thank you following! Canned turkey would work just fine. Have a blessed week.
