For some reason I've been obsessing over this song since i first heard it a week or so ago. I've watched dozens and dozens of reaction videos to this remarkable track, from guitarists, vocal coaches and therapists to rap fans, metal heads and just...anyone. And I have to say you have you have provided one of the more insightful, empathic and compassionate commentaries that I have seen. You just got where he was coming from instantly and it was beautiful to watch. More than once, you paused the playback and said almost exactly what Ren was about to say next. You are good people, and what you have to say is worth hearing. x
I think it's with good reason, honestly. Now that I've heard it I've listened to it SO much as well. I honestly have no words to quite express exactly how much what you said meant to me. All I can say is thank you. Something about the combination of what you said, the way you said it, and just how connected to the idea of sharing love and emotion I feel makes it difficult for me to even convey my appreciation. Thanks again. Much love.
I have to say, I've watched over 30 of these Hi Ren reactions, and naturally I've seen many of these reactors point out things like the lighting, or the docility, different musical styles for the two voices, etc., but you're the first who has literally hit on all of these in a single video that honestly I'm a bit blown away by how perceptive you are. And you're the first that mentioned the similarly of the Joker Ren to the abusive partner in toxic relationships, something that I think is spot-on and indeed comes up in other Ren songs/stories. And lastly, without being prompted you hit on the bard nature of what he's doing, a word (eg. in the portmanteau "bardcore") Ren himself has used to describe his music, so props for that as well. You deserve a lot more subs!
Thank you very much :) Honestly it's a testament to Ren's insight into the human mind. I can't wait to see what he does in the other videos, which I've heard have such a varied style but the same level of depth. I actually was so excited that he called himself Bardcore because honestly he is! He's storytelling through music in such a beautiful way and we just don't see as much of that. Such a wonderful artist. Much love!
If you truly hadn't watched this before, then props to you. Because I've watched at least 50 reactions to this, and you caught more stuff than anyone I've watched.
Bro.... Honestly this is the Reaction Ren deserves. I can see by the comments below that I am not the only one that feels this way. ❤️ I am impressed and thankful for YOU Sir! We must protect our Bard at all cost, the World needs him.
Wow! You've had one of the best takes of all the reactions. Very perceptive! Ren did this live! Ren has been sick for years with lyme disease and was misdiagnosed many times which made it very hard. Follow his community feed.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it :) The fact that he did this live is just insane to me. I love when an artist sounds even better live, and he definitely sounded amazing. I didn't know about his diagnosis with lyme disease. It's such a difficult disease to deal with and the emotional toll of not knowing what's going on for so long could not have been easy... I'll definitely check out the feed. Thank you! Much love
Soooo, I've watched over 120 Hi Ren reactions, from a huge variety of contributors, ranging from rappers, sound engineers, classical composers, mental health workers, cinematographers, metal heads, gospel singers and many many more, and I have to say (and agree with many commentors here), that this is by far the most insightful and nuanced reaction I've seen so far. Bravo sir - I look forward to more from you! (As for Ren, he astounds me).
Thank you so much for the kindness :) I really appreciate it. It's been a pleasure doing these just to get to meet amazing people like yourself. Much love
I saw Ren joking somewhere that his genre is "bardcore". Such a great description! Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole! Looking forward to more Ren reactions!
A lot of reactors just say "Wow that was amazing, so emotional" and just leave it at that. You had one of the best commentaries I've ever seen. You picked up on so many little details many others missed. Great reaction and I hope you check out his other work 😁!
Thank you so much :) I know it can get a bit much at times and sometimes I ramble but honestly it's a testament to how passionate Ren made me about the music haha. Much love!
Absolutely. I've found Ren and this song two days ago and ever since I've just watch people react to it and his other songs over and over to constantly see the first impact, but most people indeed didn't say much, and I get that it leaves you speechless, but this is so good. Came here after watching the reaction to the trilogy, which also pointed out so many little details I hadn't noticed and nobody figured out
I think this is my first comment in 20 years of watching UA-cam. In the past, I have listened to all sorts of amazing singers, artists, and musicians, ... but never have I come across a person or performance like Hi Ren. He has cast his light into the deepest canyons for everyone to catch a glimpse of their inner self. Why I am commenting here? Your analysis of this wonderful, master's performance is inciteful. We know what we are going to get from you... great analysis, lyric by lyric, ... It is (should be) important to me (everyone) that Ren has someone like you who can delve into his poetry to shed light. When compared to the spit and the bilge from those 'reactors' that think it is OK to talk over and, worse, not hear his poetry, you are a gulp of fresh air. Thank you.
It is an absolute honour. Thank you so much, both for your support and the fact that you decided to comment here. It is deeply moving. I know that this style is definitely not for everyone, but I agree with you that I think, especially for Ren's music, it's necessary because he just does so much with his performances. I hope that the content continues to be at the level to match Ren's music. This journey has just been so fascinating getting to meet so many amazing people like yourself, so thank you for this :) Much love
Brother, I already commented on your phenomenal job on the “Chalk Outlines” reaction, but damn. Your perceptiveness and ability to pick up on every nuance is next level. And to do it from a place of such compassion and empathy. It’s not hyperbole to say you have a real gift. I don’t know what you do for a living, but I hope it somehow incorporates your ability to create human connection. And if it is simply through reaction videos, that’s great too. Incredible job, I really enjoyed this and gives me hope for our species. Freaking awesome.
@@shadowaeternum2690 They are some very fortunate kids to have someone that doesn't just teach, but educates. Those young minds will be able to think for themselves..xx
Hey buddy! I just listened to this again today 5/19. Apparently i lije it before, but did nit comment...wondered why. Now i know. I was so friggin annoyed at you for stealing Ren's thunder by predicting what he was going to say!😂😂😂😂 especially toward the end. I was still in my early days of awe and feelungs if ownership of my experience of Ren. So in retrospect.....great job ❤
Sir, there will be enough people giving you Ren facts that you don't need mine. But do want to say that you are VERY good at this. Your level of immersion, and intuitive thought, are to be commended. Cheers...
Hands down the best reaction I’ve ever watched of any video. Your sharp eye and mind resulted in analysis that was so intriguing. I delayed watching this because of the length. But after I watched your Illness reaction I knew I had to go back and watch all of your Ren reactions. So glad I did. Thank you!
I’ve watched tons of these reactions for Hi Ren and you have one of the best. You give so much insight that the majority of others never caught. Hell I’ve watched the video more times than I can count and I didn’t even catch it. Thank you for sharing your perspective!!!
Ironic and so cool that you called him "The bard of our times", cause he calls his genre of music "Bardcore", although in a self deprecating kind of way. He's amazing and I hope that he can get some relief from the worst of his Lyme Disease symptoms, i;e sleeping 23 hrs a day and still feeling exhausted, suffering from neurological psychological issues, which I understand is more common in UK Lyme disease. I just think he is so special. Loved your reaction to this performance art piece.
So I heard about him saying it was "Bardcore" and was like there could not be a more perfect name for his genre, haha. I really hope that he can find some relief from the symptoms, too. I've heard about how tough it can be to deal with Lyme. Much love!
Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music videos. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."
Oh man. Thank you for your breakdown of his music. I've definitely got Chalk Outlines on my radar now, but I had no idea about the others. Just from reading the titles, you can feel his raw and unbridled truth and energy, which honestly takes so much courage and talent from artists. I didn't realize he was in a band before! I've seen some thumbnails of busking videos, which is honestly one of my favourite things because we get to see the artist perform the song exactly how they want and it feels so connected. He's in Canada!? I didn't realize that. It's smart to have that prepared, but that speaks volumes about how much he cares about people that connect with and love his music, too. Thanks again! I have a list of songs/performances I need to check out and I've added these :) Much love
@ 21:00 you mentioned you though he was or did kill himself. In a recent interview Ren said that he originally was planning to end his life (in the music) at that point. He had a buddy review the work, who then told him he needed to not end it there and show hope. Ren then added the Hope verse and the spoken word at the end.
Man. I am so SO happy that he has someone like that in his corner, because I don't want to imagine a world without Ren, but even moreso, everyone deserves to have someone like that in their life. Thank you for sharing that
Wow. I was so impressed by your exquisite analysis, I smacked my phone across the room smashing that subscribe button. By the way, I’m here because you were highly recommended by someone on a Ren fan page. This whole network of kindness he started and his bardcore RENegades have continued to spread all over is an amazing thing. Just like your mind. So glad I was sent here by a random Ren fan I’ve never met before. I look forward to watching all of your reactions.
Best reaction so far. I have been watching Ren busking in Brighton (UK) for seven years and he is never less than captivating. I have watched so many reactions to Ren and yours wins the gold medal! He has many videos showing his versatility and beautiful singling voice but Chalk Outlines (live) is one of my favourites. I hope you will continue on your Ren journey. It's an exciting ride!
Wow I can't express how much I appreciate that! Thank you so much :) If the rest of his music is this captivating it's not hard to see how he's becoming a phenomenon. I think people are in need of this kind of raw, soul exposed style of music because it's something we can connect with on multiple different levels, and Ren is definitely opening his heart for us to see inside here. Also, his vocals weren't totally on display here but the way he could flow into his singing to and from the rap was just outstanding. I'm definitely excited for the ride as well! Much love
I couldn't be more impressed by the way you interpreted this masterpiece! I've watched a lot of Hi Ren reactions - in fact, I found Ren through a Hi Ren reaction - but you have left me as gobsmacked as the MV itself, well almost lol. Subbed & checking out more of your content.
First things first, I love the word gobsmacked! Thank you so very much though :) I really appreciate it. I still can't believe how intuitively tuned into the human experience Ren is. Much love
the line in this song "she sells sea shells on the sea shore" is a callback from one of his other songs Money Game part 2 by Ren. Definitely go down the rabbit hole of Ren's masterpieces he has made over the years. I enjoy your reactions more than most of the reactions made to his music
Ohhhh man. That makes the pretentiousness of darkside Ren even more frustrating. I definitely have to check out Money Game, I've heard a lot about it. Thank you so much :) Much love
I have watched an obscene number of reactions to this song since I discovered it a couple of weeks ago, and only three of the reactors identified the third voice. Bravo! You are extremely insightful and intuitive, as well as sensitive, and are now among my subscriptions. Keep up the great work!
So true, Shadow calling this new persona the matured Ren instantly made me refrect on the difference in lyrics from "My therapist told me I'm ill", a young Ren just at onset of the journey with the illness-catalyzed internal struglle, and "I've spent half my life ill". I have noticed before the change into the confidence, but this commentary made the passage of time which was intentionally emphasized by Ren, this much clearer. And let me join everyone else here by saying that your spot on, first time watching insight, which for us mortals takes many viewings, and the eloquence in which you express it are purely inspiring.
Amazing! By far the most comprehensive, thorough, insightful and fulfilling breakdown I’ve seen to date …and I’ve seen a lot! It was almost like you were inside the head of Ren himself! Anyway, I learned a lot and hope he stops by to give you a nod. Very well done! Cheers :)
You have no idea how much I appreciate that! It honestly feels like he's letting us into his soul, which helps in connecting to the music, lyrics, and overall performance, so a lot of it is credit to Ren as well, but I truly cannot thank you enough for the kind words :) Much love!
Thank you for your breakdown. Hands down the best I’ve seen so far. The only thing I will add is, IMHO, when Ren starts his Monologue at the end. I think he is saying that he was on the precipice of committing suicide but at the last minute changed his mind and screamed that he will fight the bitter fight. That is why, for the next 10 years he suffer the consequences because he decided to live through it rather than succumb, and end it all. I cannot imagine how hard that decision not to be. 🥰🙏🏽
After what feels like basically rocketing through the rabbit hole, I think you're absolutely right :P (Sorry this is late btw). I'm so so glad that he didn't end up taking his own life, because the world needs him. Someone had mentioned that it was a friend of his who had helped talk him off of the ledge, and I'm so grateful to that person. Ren's amazingness aside, every single one of us needs someone like that in our life, Ren's amazingness considered again, Ren is very likely that person for a lot of people now. Much love Melinda :)
Someone else actually mentioned that and I was so excited because that's going to become one of my favourite things to say haha. Bardcore. What an awesome genre! Much love
Its so impressive and almost hilarious how often you manage to nail what he's about to say before he says it. Amazing perception. Master class reaction. Yet again.
Wow! I have been watching lots and lots of reactions to this song. You, by far, have had the deepest fastest insight of all. Great job! I just subscribed, thanks :)
This was a wonderfully astute, empathetic reaction. I've been utterly captivated by this song & people's reactions to it since I first found it a week ago. This was one of the best I've seen, and one of the very few that caught its many layers. It was a pleasure listening to it with you & hearing your thoughts.
@@shadowaeternum2690 I have to say Anne`s comment is so accurate. I don't usually comment but had to I have liked subscribed and looking forward to more of your reactions and watch your channel grow. Much love from East Yorkshire U.K.
Ren really is a genius. So many facets to him. Hope you do The Tale of Jenny & Screech & Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla. And then go on to more because everything he does is incredible.
He really is. I have had this song on repeat since listening. It's just so well written and heartfelt. The fact that he truly opens his soul for us to see makes this feel like transcendental art. I'm definitely going to check out the Tales, I've heard a lot about them! Much love
LOL. I mean at the end of the day we're all brothers and sisters at heart (and I guess if we go back far enough evolutionarily haha). In all seriousness, though, thank you so much :) Much love
Thank you for taking your time and energy to share your perceptions of this. We all suffer the voices in our heads, Ren has a way with words to open the mind to let us know we are not alone. But you Sir, also have a way with words to help see the shadows in the words that we often miss. You have a new subscriber Sir. Thank you and have a wonderful day and a better tomorrow.
It is honestly my pleasure. I think you hit the nail on the head. Ren helps us connect and feel connected, and that's just so important. Help see the shadows in the words. Suddenly the youtube channel name has a whole new meaning haha. Thank you very much for that :) I hope your day is just as wonderful! Much love
One of the most on point ractions imho. And the first i came across who mentioned the fact that 'the good' Ren is afraid of saying "... if you die", almost in-audible...
I've watched many reactions to this tune and I'm astounded at how incisive and perceptive you are, man. Hell yeah, I'm subscribing. Looking for good things from both you and Ren.
You're an intelligent dude to catch every concept and idea on the first listen. By far the most in depth and accurate analysis of this song I've seen. You have a new subscriber!
As many before me I have also became overwhelmed by Ren's art. I am even watching all the reaction videos, seeing it again for the first time through someone else's eyes. Your reaction is simply unique. You saw the same things in his art that I was seeing and recognising within myself. Thank you for this. It made me feel less alone.
I loved your reaction man I have been watching reactors as well, this is a masterpiece, authentic and real . I know Ren was bitten by a tick and contrated Lymes disease, he suvived it with stem cell therapy but only came back 1/2 the way and is still fighting to be well again I read a blog he wrote from Canada getting treatment. Please wish him well guys it would be a shame if the world lost this talent.
I didn't realize that he had had stem-cell therapy until he mentioned it in Sick Boi. I've been reading his blog too as he posts and he's a real inspiration. Much love to you and Ren
Great reaction. I think yours is the first reaction I've seen that put it in the framework of an abusive relationship and it's one of the vibes that I got from it...nice to hear someone else pick up on it. If you want another great Ren track (that hasn't been getting a lot of attention because it doesn't have a flashy video) check out Dominoes. It's got a great message and I think you'll find a lot of meat to dig into.
Thank you so much! It was definitely eerie how well he was able to parallel our mind with abusive relationships. Done and done. I've added it to the list. I'll probably be binging a bunch of Ren so we'll definitely be checking this out. Much love
You just got shouted out in a Ren group, and I don't understand how you haven't been recommended to me. Your analysis is top 5 of the 100s I have seen, easily.
Well earned sub. Let's do another! Jenny and Screech (full), Genesis, Power, The Hunger, What You Want... But really his whole catalog is breathtaking.
Dude. I don't comment on reactions very often at all, but I have to give you props man. Like everyone else has said, you are extraordinarily perceptive and insightful and you express yourself very well. Your intelligence shines through and you're a real joy to listen to. Plus you hit the perfect balance between analyzing this fantastic work of art and being emotionally affected by it. Ren's been commenting on a lot of the reaction videos while he's in Canada getting treatment and I can only hope he stumbles upon your wee channel one of these days, because I'm sure he'll appreciate you and what you've put out here.
I don't believe it for one second. In fact i'm disappointed in his dishonesty. It taints how insightful he is. If he'd just said I've been obsessing about this and here's everything I've taken away from it. But I don't believe this is his first viewing.
Apprentice... journeyman... master... those three stages of high achievement mark the era of medieval craftsman guilds (akin to the advancement stages of martial arts). Your reaction highlighted how Ren deploys and intertwines the cords and chords of honed bardsmanship in this masterpiece. I was astounded at how powerfully your psychological perceptiveness not only dissected, but actually anticipated, aspects of word-play and mind-play. From now on, I will feel a sense of craving between the release of any Ren performance art and a reaction by you. Thank you, Shadow!
Absolutely love your heartfelt reaction. Your intuition was top notch. You were emotional but collected in your mind. More interested in what you do here. Perhaps I must sub. ❤️🔥
Here’s a thought. I’m getting that the lights flashing is a brain activation to shove the message into the subconscious and empower humanity. I would not put it past this guy. I think this is best most significant piece of performance art in modern times. And it’s timing is not by accident! What do you think? Someone needs to research this. I’m watching so many reactions and i can see the brainwork happening when the reactor allows it. The eyes move. Then they move into a peaceful happy state. It’s incredible. This is my observation. 🖖🏻
He even says “ let me break the fourth wall” in the song. That’s about the veil between the artist and the audience, go look that up 😌 •”if you believe in fairies, clap your hands!”
U absolutely earned my subscription my friend. Genuinely loved ur reaction and breakdown can’t wait to see u do The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full) and Chalk Outlines by Ren ft Chinchilla
Thank you so much :) Man I definitely need to check out Tales and Chalk Outlines because so many people are talking about how good they are. Plus, after this performance I'm hooked, haha. Thanks again :) Much love
When asked what genre his music is Ren replied “Bardcore”. He truly is a massively talented musician and master story teller. You truly must react to the trilogy “Jenny’s Tale” “Screech’s Tale” and “Violets Tale” in that order. Oh and many of his songs/performances are done in one take. ❤️🔥 Great reaction, I really liked your insight.
Bardcore has got to be one of the coolest names for a genre I've ever heard! The trilogy is definitely next on the list and I'm so excited to dig into it. Thank you very much :) Much love!
One more gift to you; "The brighter the light, the darker the shadow": when Ren says that, it is not obvious, but if you roll back: the light that shines from the "good" side, throws a significantly darker shadow on the scene.
Best review, in my opinion... you mentioned Hope, and its a message for us all... perhaps that's why it resonates with so many of us... we needed to be reminded of the power of hope. Thank you
I've always loved the song, but never enjoyed the last ten seconds as it just seemed random with him packing up and taking his mike off, but you showed me that it was conveying he was simply being a human being. Thank you, I finally get it, and that I can now enjoy that bit too!
This journey involves integrating the conscious and unconscious parts of our psyche, including the 'shadow,' the part of ourselves that we deny or reject. Jung believed that confronting and integrating our shadow is a crucial step towards self-understanding and growt
This is live one take he is truly the most amazing satisfying performer of all time I'm 36 and loved music my entire life but nothing compares with Ren
Ren pointed me toward your channel, and i can see why. A reaction that was beautiful in its intelligence, insight and empathy. Ive watched hundreds of reactions to this masterpiece and this was by some distance my favourite. Subscribed and I'll be working my way through your other video's. Reactions like yours genuinely reinforce my faith in whst humanity can be. Thank you
Ren saw the video??? I had no idea O.O I don't even know what to say :| That's surreal... I'm glad that you enjoyed it and I'm glad to have met you :) Thank you for being your amazing self. Much love
You nailed this and explained why Hi Ren is such an insanely profound song told by a masterful storyteller and performer. ❤ So glad Ren recommended you.
Watching reaction videos of songs and artists that I like is one of my favorite things to do. Seeing someone else fall in love with something close to my heart is priceless. But too often, it frustrates me how many details I caught in both lyrics, cadence, performance, and music video production choices that others do not. I often end up sitting there, going, "but did you not see the light flicker?", "Why didn't you mention how interesting it is when his dark side takes over and the camera angle is from both sides like earlier but kind Ren is now gone?". So, finding someone like you who sees everything and then some? You are priceless and really need to continue doing this with more music. Pretty please. I wish I knew you so we could sit and discuss life at a coffee shop for hours.
Your analysis really connected with me and I respect you a lot for making this. From one random stranger to another; you have my deepest empathy for whoever hurt you that caused such a deep understanding of abuse. Much love and best of wishes on your artistic journeys.
Your insights were so on point! Just when I thought I had seen all of the best reaction videos for this song, you blew me away with this one away!! You are definitely a natural empath! I truly hope Ren gets to see this. I really enjoyed how much you were invested in the characters. You picked up on so many details. Fantastic review! Definitely one of the best, if not the best! Glad I found your channel, subbed! 💙🙌
Hands down the most interesting, most intelligent reaction to Hi Ren. Your comprehension is almost unreal, you are ahead of @Ren several times and point to things that he says a few seconds later. Amazing! You are very intelligent and subtle. Thanks!
I have been watching Hi Ren reactions for almost a year and somehow missed yours. Your friend lead you in tje right direction when they recommend Hi Ren. I loved your reaction video. You were spot on (in my opinion) with your take on this. I agree with another comment that said your reaction was brilliant. I'm so glad that I found your video! I'm a new subscriber now. Thank you Peace ✌️
I came here right after your Jenny & screech reaction. Allthough i've seen a bunch of people react to this, this is by far the best reaction i've ever seen, of any song. I was really hoping you'd catch the 3rd voice being Hope before he called it out in the song and you did, That's what gave me goosebumps. Brilliant work
I found this version of the two wolves story. I never really "liked" the response was "the one you feed" because the darkness has a purpose too. Then I stumbled upon this version and fell in love with it. I think it fits here. “The story goes on and ends like this in another version: “If you feed them right, they both win.” “You see, if I only choose to feed the white wolf, the black one will be hiding around every corner waiting for me to become distracted or weak and jump to get the attention he craves. He will always be angry and always fighting the white wolf. But if I acknowledge him, he is happy and the white wolf is happy and we all win. For the black wolf has many qualities - tenacity, courage, fearlessness, strong-willed and great strategic thinking - that I have need of at times and that the white wolf lacks. But the white wolf has compassion, caring, strength and the ability to recognize what is in the best interest of all. “You see, son, the white wolf needs the black wolf at his side. To feed only one would starve the other and they will become uncontrollable. To feed and care for both means they will serve you well and do nothing that is not a part of something greater, something good, something of life. Feed them both and there will be no more internal struggle for your attention. And when there is no battle inside, you can listen to the voices of deeper knowing that will guide you in choosing what is right in every circumstance. Peace, my son, is the Cherokee mission in life. A man or a woman who has peace inside has everything. A man or a woman who is pulled apart by the war inside him or her has nothing." lanredahunsi.com/the-tale-of-two-wolves/
I cant believe it took me this long to watch your incredible reaction and analysis. You're amazing! I've cried again listening to your perspective. Thank you!
No YOU'RE amazing!!! I'm glad that you enjoyed it :) And I'm glad that it made you cry (as terrible as that sounds)! We're here for each other so if you need a place to cry this is definitely it :) Much love
I've watched about 30 reaction videos spice discoving this song and by far this is the greatest the way you vocalised all my thoughts as I watched the original at 5am and I feel the hope the song provided literly talked me off the ledge. Keep up the good work man
Respect for your observations on this. I'm here for it mate and feel I've been further inspired by the production now than I had consciously realised. Namaste brother 🙏❤
I've seen so many reactions to this song over the past couple of months, but I somehow missed yours (until now). I really liked it. You understood the message and several times pointed out and extended the ideas before Ren did it in the next section of the song. And even though I have listened to this song so many times you still managed to give me some new insights that helped me gain an even better understanding of the message. Thank You!
This is an obviously very late reply but thank you so much Andreas. I'm glad that you enjoyed it, and thank you for your support and kindness. The fact that you were able to find some new insights warms my heart, as well
I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this one. I feel like the flickering lights at the end represent the integration of both parts of the personality into a functional whole.
I'm intrigued by your analytical style, after seeing Jenny and Screech and now this one. If you're down, I'd love to see you dive into the lyrics and music of TOOL. On a side note, they have a huge, and passionate fan base (TOOL Army 🌀) that will literally flock to your channel. Most Reactors (especially fans of Rap and Hip-hop, etc) will start with, The Pot. The Army will guide your journey from there. 😉 The band has very few "official" videos and they can be quite distracting from the music so I suggest you steer clear of those initially; perhaps do them as a second Reaction. Also, due to that rarety, one can find a number of fan-made videos (including one for, The Pot, which has no "official" video). There are plenty of lyric videos out there, which is good because the Vocalist tends to think of himself as another instrument in the band and therefore has his mix at, or slightly below, the rest of the band. So, he can be hard to pick out at times. Cheers!
I'm so sorry I'm so late on replying to this, I'm trying to revisit comments that I hadn't had a chance to, yet. Tool is now on the list :) I will admit, it will take a bit of time (probably) but I am definitely excited! I've only listened to a handful of Tool, and to be honest I think most of that is because of Guitar Hero, but the songs I've heard were very well done. At the time of hearing them, I wasn't as fascinated by lyrical meanings, but now that I am this is going to be awesome! Much love Sean
I have watched countless reviews and incites of Hi Ren because I am so blown away and love to see peoples first time responses. Yours is probably the most insightful. You even preempted tthe unfolding of Ren's intentions aand meaning. Well done, I am glad you saw so much. It is a real masterpiece
yes! Was waiting for someone to comment on that Sun rising from the east and setting in the west into the ocean! Another awesome reaction! (surprisingly I found your "tales" reaction before this one). Your intuition is spot on how you can predict the future and future lyrics in his videos.
Just wanted to say (and I can see others have said similar already) how much I enjoyed your reaction, which in fact was a very detailed analysis, of Ren's performance. You covered all the bases, picking up lots of things I noticed which other reactors missed. You also brought out things I hadn't considered, for which I'm grateful. Your work on the Jenny & Screech video was also of the highest calibre. Please keep up the good work.
Thank you so much :) I think songs like this definitely deserve analyses that go in depth, even though these can get kind of long sometimes, haha. I also have a fascination with meaning in everything, be it music, movies, actions, etc., so this kind of analysis has been a pleasure for me to share, and I'm just glad people seem to enjoy it. Thank you so much for your support :) Much love
Much love.
I've also watched dozens of reaction videos to this song and I agree with everything Jackie just said 💯
Absolutely agree with this! You should also check out his breakdown of chalk outlines. It brought me to tears
💯💯💯
Me too it's so beautiful it's totally addictive
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it :) And I am thankful for you
Wow! You've had one of the best takes of all the reactions. Very perceptive!
Ren did this live!
Ren has been sick for years with lyme disease and was misdiagnosed many times which made it very hard.
Follow his community feed.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it :)
The fact that he did this live is just insane to me. I love when an artist sounds even better live, and he definitely sounded amazing. I didn't know about his diagnosis with lyme disease. It's such a difficult disease to deal with and the emotional toll of not knowing what's going on for so long could not have been easy...
I'll definitely check out the feed. Thank you! Much love
I totally agree!
No. Way. That's actually such a great word for it! Bardcore. I love that haha! Thanks for the support :) Much love
Came here after watching the reaction to the trilogy, which also pointed out so many little details I hadn't noticed and nobody figured out
Commentary was a bit excessive. When a reaction video is over 3X the length of the song, that's a long-winded reactor. But to each their own.
Thank you so much, brother. I really appreciate it
@@shadowaeternum2690 They are some very fortunate kids to have someone that doesn't just teach, but educates.
Frances. The fact that you went back to watch it and commented is more than enough to put me in awe, so thank you so much for that
Sir, there will be enough people giving you Ren facts that you don't need mine. But do want to say that you are VERY good at this. Your level of immersion, and intuitive thought, are to be commended. Cheers...
Thank you so much. I can't even begin to express my appreciation. Much love :)
Hands down the best reaction I’ve ever watched of any video. Your sharp eye and mind resulted in analysis that was so intriguing. I delayed watching this because of the length. But after I watched your Illness reaction I knew I had to go back and watch all of your Ren reactions. So glad I did. Thank you!
Just wow. Thanks so much, Julie. Ever??? I'm like actually giddy after reading this (I'm sorry I read this so late!)
Thank you so much for that
Thank you for calling him a Bard. The first time my husband and I first listened to him, that was my immediate thought: He's A Bard for Our Times.
He really is, isn't he? I mean all anyone has to do is listen to Tales and BAM they should be sold. He just IS music.
Much love :)
I’ve watched tons of these reactions for Hi Ren and you have one of the best. You give so much insight that the majority of others never caught. Hell I’ve watched the video more times than I can count and I didn’t even catch it. Thank you for sharing your perspective!!!
You're very welcome! Thank you for your kind words and being awesome :) Much love!
You've undoubtedly heard it before this reaction, but i genuinely don't care in this case... Ren sells himself
Ren is honestly so talented. He amazes me with his ability to convey the human experience. It's outstanding! Much love
Absolutely he has.
Can I add Genesis and The Hunger to this, as well as Power as the more traditional but meaningful raps? And at some point, Children of the moon ?
@@cas9065 You most certainly can :) Done and done. I'll try to get to them all, but it might take some time. Much love!
Also add Power, What You Want, Life is Funny, etc. Also all his rap remake songs, don't sleep on his hip/hop songs they're amazing too!
Thank you so much, haha
Best reaction so far. I have been watching Ren busking in Brighton (UK) for seven years and he is never less than captivating. I have watched so many reactions to Ren and yours wins the gold medal!
He has many videos showing his versatility and beautiful singling voice but Chalk Outlines (live) is one of my favourites. I hope you will continue on your Ren journey. It's an exciting ride!
Wow I can't express how much I appreciate that! Thank you so much :)
If the rest of his music is this captivating it's not hard to see how he's becoming a phenomenon.
Much love
I've watched maybe 20 reactions to Hi Ren ,yours is on another level 👏👏👏
Some people just don't get it, new subscriber here, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! :) I'm excited to have you along for the ride! Much love
the line in this song "she sells sea shells on the sea shore" is a callback from one of his other songs Money Game part 2 by Ren.
This is probably the best reaction to this song that has been created so far,
Thank you so much :) Much love
I have watched an obscene number of reactions to this song since I discovered it a couple of weeks ago, and only three of the reactors identified the third voice. Bravo! You are extremely insightful and intuitive, as well as sensitive, and are now among my subscriptions. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much :) I really appreciate your support and kindness. Much love
Oh and your reaction was wonderful! Loved your insights!
Haha thank you so much!
Impressed ....you are the only of many I've watched, 'reaction' to Hi Ren review that noticed a third persona/voice....👌
Thank you :) It was such a visceral depiction of our inner voices. Much love
Agreed 💯
Totally agree!
So perceptive how you described it as "bardic". Ren calls this genre "bardcore", which is a perfect name. :)
Thank you very much! It helps that Ren is so fantastic at conveying a message in his music :P Much love
I hardly ever comment but you have an amazing ability at grasping Ren’s art and speaking about it so clearly and insightfully. New sub!
The fact that you took the time to comment truly warms my heart
This was a wonderfully astute, empathetic reaction. I've been utterly captivated by this song & people's reactions to it since I first found it a week ago. This was one of the best I've seen, and one of the very few that caught its many layers. It was a pleasure listening to it with you & hearing your thoughts.
Thank you so much :) It's honestly been such a pleasure to go on this journey with all of you, so thank you as well. Much love
@@shadowaeternum2690 I have to say Anne`s comment is so accurate. I don't usually comment but had to I have liked subscribed and looking forward to more of your reactions and watch your channel grow. Much love from East Yorkshire U.K.
This is one of the best dissections that I've seen on this song. And I've watched a lot of reactions!
Thank you very much :) Much love!
Much love
What are u, Ren's brother? Ur in his head bro! Great analysis!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
LOL. I mean at the end of the day we're all brothers and sisters at heart (and I guess if we go back far enough evolutionarily haha). In all seriousness, though, thank you so much :) Much love
You're one of the only people who realized that TIME is elapsing in this song. Well done, sir.
I am also someone who thinks about time probably WAY too much, so that probably helped :P Much love Lan and thank you so much for your kindness
Best 9 minute therapy session everr.. your reaction is gold mate
Thanks so much :) Ren definitely has an insane ability to turn music into therapy. Much love!
Thank you very much for that :)
I hope your day is just as wonderful! Much love
when he sings of hope the camera becomes hand held , also he first looks straight into the camera at ' dawn ' the dawn of hope , genius .
Oh man, and that's indicative of someone taking control of their life. That's crazy. Good catch! Much love
One of the most on point ractions imho. And the first i came across who mentioned the fact that 'the good' Ren is afraid of saying "... if you die", almost in-audible...
This is the most eloquently placed reaction... thank you for such an amazing breakdown!! New sub here for certain!!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the support and the kindness :) Much love
By far this has been the best reaction to Hi Ren that I have come across… thank you for this and Ren is amazing
He really really is. I actually just finished watching the Tales Trilogy and my god... that one hurt. Such an amazing artist. Much love
Also thank you! I realized I didn't say that in the first reply
Thank you so much! Much love :)
You're never alone, Claudia
What a pretty insightful reaction that was... I'll leave my sub for that!
Ok, said before I saw the whole thing. Top 2, easily
Well earned sub. Let's do another!
Jenny and Screech (full),
Genesis, Power, The Hunger, What You Want...
But really his whole catalog is breathtaking.
Oh we definitely are going to do another... then another... and probably others haha. Ren is amazing and I'm caught up in his wave now! Much love
Man thank you so much for taking the time to say this. It means a lot to me
Algorithm, please hit this channel!
Fingers crossed :P Much love haha
Was this really your first time watching? Your intuitive understanding of what he's doing is far beyond most. Well done!
I also question if this is really his first time listening to it.
Thank you so much :) I can definitely feel that sometimes I kinda yammer a bit, so I appreciate you saying I was collected, haha. Much love!
That’s about the veil between the artist and the audience, go look that up 😌
•”if you believe in fairies, clap your hands!”
"It gives me a purpose I can rest in." He'd been in so much pain for so long.
It is criminal that this reaction only have 11K views! The best one of Hi Ren and I have watched it multiple times.
I really appreciate that :P Tbh, I'm just glad for the people that do watch, like yourself :) That means the world to me
One more gift to you; "The brighter the light, the darker the shadow": when Ren says that, it is not obvious, but if you roll back: the light that shines from the "good" side, throws a significantly darker shadow on the scene.
Best review, in my opinion... you mentioned Hope, and its a message for us all... perhaps that's why it resonates with so many of us... we needed to be reminded of the power of hope. Thank you
Thank you so much
I've always loved the song, but never enjoyed the last ten seconds as it just seemed random with him packing up and taking his mike off, but you showed me that it was conveying he was simply being a human being. Thank you, I finally get it, and that I can now enjoy that bit too!
Wow. I am truly grateful to have been able to help you enjoy the ending, as well. Thank you for your kindness and positivity
I am so happy to see everyone giving you high props, it saves me from typing out everything!
Thank you :) It's been overwhelming in the best of ways, and I'm so glad to have been able to interact with all of you. Much love
This journey involves integrating the conscious and unconscious parts of our psyche, including the 'shadow,' the part of ourselves that we deny or reject. Jung believed that confronting and integrating our shadow is a crucial step towards self-understanding and growt
Sitting here with tears in my eyes, what a beutiful review
Much love
Sorry for the late reply. I'm trying to catch up on messages I've missed!
Thank you so much
Wait. I totally missed the ending there. Ren recommended the channel??
Thank you so much
Your analysis really connected with me and I respect you a lot for making this. From one random stranger to another; you have my deepest empathy for whoever hurt you that caused such a deep understanding of abuse. Much love and best of wishes on your artistic journeys.
Great reaction. Thank you
❤Beautiful
Your insights were so on point! Just when I thought I had seen all of the best reaction videos for this song, you blew me away with this one away!! You are definitely a natural empath! I truly hope Ren gets to see this. I really enjoyed how much you were invested in the characters. You picked up on so many details. Fantastic review! Definitely one of the best, if not the best! Glad I found your channel, subbed! 💙🙌
I'm glad you found it, too! It's a pleasure to have you along for the journey :) Much love!
Hands down the most interesting, most intelligent reaction to Hi Ren.
Your comprehension is almost unreal, you are ahead of @Ren several times and point to things that he says a few seconds later. Amazing!
You are very intelligent and subtle. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your kindness, support and for just being awesome
Man I’ve watched dozens of reactions hoping for yours.
Much love :)
Thank you
Peace
✌️
I came here right after your Jenny & screech reaction. Allthough i've seen a bunch of people react to this, this is by far the best reaction i've ever seen, of any song. I was really hoping you'd catch the 3rd voice being Hope before he called it out in the song and you did, That's what gave me goosebumps. Brilliant work
Oh man. Thank you so much. Honestly that means a lot and I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your kindness. Much love!
I found this version of the two wolves story. I never really "liked" the response was "the one you feed" because the darkness has a purpose too. Then I stumbled upon this version and fell in love with it. I think it fits here.
“The story goes on and ends like this in another version:
“If you feed them right, they both win.”
“You see, if I only choose to feed the white wolf, the black one will be hiding around every corner waiting for me to become distracted or weak and jump to get the attention he craves.
We're here for each other so if you need a place to cry this is definitely it :)
Much love
I've watched about 30 reaction videos spice discoving this song and by far this is the greatest the way you vocalised all my thoughts as I watched the original at 5am and I feel the hope the song provided literly talked me off the ledge. Keep up the good work man
I'm very glad that this song connected with you and helped you find your way off of the ledge
It's a voice that undermines everyone.
Brilliant reaction...just brilliant
Nailed it, great stuff thanks.
This needs to be part of every high school curriculum.
That would be an amazing addition to the curriculum!
Thanks so much :) Much love
@@shadowaeternum2690 I think you would make a great teacher if you’re not already!
@@roystevenson9632 Agreed!
Respect for your observations on this. I'm here for it mate and feel I've been further inspired by the production now than I had consciously realised. Namaste brother 🙏❤
Brother the fact that this has further inspired you means the world to me. Truly. Namaste to you, too, brother
You are one of the best reactors I've seen to Ren's art piece 😍
I've seen so many reactions to this song over the past couple of months, but I somehow missed yours (until now).
I really liked it. You understood the message and several times pointed out and extended the ideas before Ren did it in the next section of the song. And even though I have listened to this song so many times you still managed to give me some new insights that helped me gain an even better understanding of the message.
Thank You!
This is an obviously very late reply but thank you so much Andreas. I'm glad that you enjoyed it, and thank you for your support and kindness. The fact that you were able to find some new insights warms my heart, as well
I had to come start back at the beginning of your REN reactions, iv already seen the multiple times but they’re some of the best 🖤
You nailed it, I've watched a ton of these and you get it. Thank you
Thank you for your reaction. Ren is truly special and rightly deserves our support and recognition.
Thank you for your time :) He really is exceptional. Much love
You absolutely 100% listened to this before making a reaction video, but I enjoyed the analysis you gave regardless
This is an excellent breakdown and analysis of this gem of a song! I have watched so many reactors do this. Yours was very good! Great job
@@shadowaeternum2690 No worries. I'm certain you're quite busy.
RAWK ON!! 🤘🏽🌀🔥
You have brought a whole new meaning to this brilliant song, thank you!!
Thank you so much :)
I have watched countless reviews and incites of Hi Ren because I am so blown away and love to see peoples first time responses. Yours is probably the most insightful. You even preempted tthe unfolding of Ren's intentions aand meaning. Well done, I am glad you saw so much. It is a real masterpiece
Thank you so much
yes! Was waiting for someone to comment on that Sun rising from the east and setting in the west into the ocean! Another awesome reaction! (surprisingly I found your "tales" reaction before this one). Your intuition is spot on how you can predict the future and future lyrics in his videos.
Much love :)
I'm a Ren fan who discovered your channel via this reaction. I'm interested to hear more of what you have to say about Ren songs, subscribed.
