OMG! That’s incredible! I have problems painting rocks and I tend to spend way too much time creating them. I must try your method which seems almost magical! I hope I’m able to make my rocks look as realistic as yours. Thank you so much for this tutorial! 👍 ❤️
Just came across your demonstration of scraping rocks with a plastic card. I think the painting is beautiful and elegant. I'd love to step into the picture and sit on the shore for a while gazing out at the beach. Ahh!
Wow, there’s more “clever” stuffed into that 20 minutes than any other painting vid on UA-cam. Additionally, you’re just a natural at verbal instruction. Thanks very much.
You are such a good communicator! And a marvellous artist. I cannot attend an art course because of lockdown. but with you I am learning so much. Thank you!
Hi Lois lovely way to spend a easy Sunday morning cuppa.....rainy and misty here today so this fits perfectly...hope you are keeping well and that the vaccines will help improve life in the UK...ours start rolling out tomorrow
Thank you for your tutorials and your time. I love the choice of colors, tones and compositions of your paintings. Your sensitivity and intelligence make the viewer vibrate, which is much more important than the colors. The path you have opened can take you far.
Hi Lois ! You are a marvellous artist and a great teacher. Your techniques are simple and effective. And as somebody else has also mentioned, you are an excellent communicator. I truly relish your painting videos.
It was very clear just how moist and thick the paint needs to be to get the effect of scraped rocks. I noticed you varied the shapes and sizes too, which is important - it’s easy to make them too similar in the rush to prevent the paint drying. Thanks very much.
thank you so much for this tutorial. I have tried for years to think of an easy way to do rocks- I applied your technique to a painting of fishing boat in a cove with rocky shores- it turned out really well- thanks so much- really appreciate it:-) NOT being able to do this, kept me from painting many different scenes.
I have not gotten the hang of the store card scraping thing. Mine looks always flat... Well - I guess I keep practicing :-) Thank you for your wonderful tutorials !
Thank you so much Lois, you are a wonderful explainer of how and why to. You have inspired me to try once more to explore the magic of watercolour. Shall look into joining you on line soon. Patricia (NSW Australia)
I'm so glad I came across your page! I love your loose style. I have essential tremors and it's been very difficult to cross over from acrylics to watercolor. Thanks for your encouragement!
Thank you Lois, such helpful tips. Will be trying out the store card. I'm really an oil lover or acrylic, but loving using water colour again for a change. I used cling film yesterday, wow !! it worked so thanks again Alioban xx
It shouldn’t do as good quality watercolour paper is manufactured to take a lot of heavy work. What paper are you using? 100% cotton is best, but quality pulp paper should also be ok, some cheap papers will break up quickly
Liked the painting instruction. Don't like the Big White hole on the border edge on the right hand rock cluster - Pulls the eye away from the centre of interest. Easily done, and in this case, easily corrected! Peace.
For a customer once I did a faux finish on one wall, after I finished and left she called and said a face was in the finish and could I come back and remove the face because it watched her. I couldn’t find it but she pointed it out and of course I fixed it.
Could you very kindly tell me how much that bamboo hake brush cost on eBay!? I've looked for it but the only one they have costs £11. If I could get a cheaper one I'd be so happy! Thank you for your lovely videos.
Hi Sue, I can’t find it on EBay anymore but I paid about £8. You may be able to find a cheaper online if you do an online search, I know they do crop up from time to time on EBay and Amazon. Sorry I can’t be more helpful, any large hake should do a similar job!
Oh that's wonderful, thank you! If I may ask one thing: is this doable with 80% cellulose paper? There is a huge shortage of materials at my local and non-local craft stores, and I have 300gsm, 80% cellulose, 20% cotton paper and that's the best they could do. Would it damage the paper if I started scraping?
Sorry, it may have been Millford then but it says SW in the description below the video, and I can’t remember now. I’m a bit scatty🤔😉. Millford is made by the same company that makes Saunders Waterford, it’s another quality cotton paper made to be like the famous Whatman paper that went out of production
@@LoisDavidsonArt Yep. Whatman was good. My favourite used to be Bockinford, but that all changed a few years back, when, I suspect they changed their source of supply. I was in contact with St. Cuthbert Mill, and they told me they had recently changed the drumming process, as a result of which, they agreed that the textured finish of the paper was, now, too mechanical. And in my view, it still is. It used to have such a beautifull random textured surface to it, it was an absolute dream to use. I came to it originally via Edward Wesson, he originally had a great input and influence on the Mill and its production. Sadly he is no longer with us - Happily I do have quite a few of his paintings! Peace.

I'm glad you found it useful, some artists seem to tear through the process so you can't see what is happening, I hope this was instructive
Excellent ideas and execution thankyou so much
I enjoyed your method. I will give it a try wonderful painting. And you can use any dark colors warms and cools (even go mono cromtic. Great subject.

Wow !!❤
The rocks on the right seems to have a face of a young girl laying down. When you see something like that do you change it or leave it?
Beautiful..

I use ordinary decorators masking tape
What size paper are you using?
Details of materials, size etc is in the description below the video
Milford paper ??
Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper
@@LoisDavidsonArt Tnx. In your commentary, you said Milford. I have never heard of that brand, that's why I queried it>
Peace.

Oh, bjesus, turned out nice eh? I bought a set of 5 palette knives recently for about £5.00 online, they give a very similar effect.
Thanks! I want to try palette knives at some point, I’ll look online for a cheap set!
@@LoisDavidsonArt and I very much hope you enjoy them. 👌
I know cheap Joe's has watercolor knives. Should I look for those? Very soothing to watch you paint.
@@christinabohnenkamp3782 not sure, I've never tried them!
I buy them brushes very cheap in Thailand
🌷😍👍👍👀

Wow commercials avalanche
Some times of day are worse than others for the number of commercials
Beautiful, thank you.
