    Thank you for preparing this 3 part series,. You have done a succinct and clear easy to follow videos and you have a pleasant demeanor while demonstrating direct to the point line to follow for a newbie to NINA to get up and running. I watched all 3 parts and will keep them as my on line 'manual'..

    Now on to part two. :)

    This is very timely for me. I have been an ASIAIR user since I began to get interested in astrophotography, but with a dome in my near future, I figured I should try NINA and all that. I have the Quieter PC all set up with it and have spent the past several months trying to get NINA to work as seamlessly as the ASIAIR does, so far without any success. I had a ton of issues with my focus in NINA, while the ASIAIR focuses without trouble. I also have been noticing that the lag in controlling the Quieter2 PC from my Mac in the house is getting worse and worse, and I have no idea why.

      @viewintospace  Рік тому

      When it comes to focus, try the plugin Hocus Focus, helps a lot! About the lag, I use Microsoft Remote Desktop between my Quieter and the Mac and it works very well. BUT - I also had issues with lag previously and the cause was the bad Wifi Connection between the Quieter and the Wifi Router. I added another Mesh Satellite close to the Quieter and the issue was solved!

      @@viewintospace thanks for the reply. My lag won’t be Wi-Fi related since my Quieter is connected to the network by Ethernet. And I used Hocus Pocus without much success (but I’ll try again).

      This comment really resonates with me, as someone coming from being an off and on visual user and occasionally using a DSLR for taking some pictures to wanting to jump right into converting my rig to a fulltime Astrograph, Both the Eagle and a Frankenstein astroPC driven by nina just present too many barriers between setup and collecting data.
      I work in another STEM field and I can say if someone offered a microscope at the professional level where you had to download a bunch of hodge podge open source software and drivers simply to get it to run, a lot of professionals would not purchase that instrument and would opt for a streamlined system like ASI. Academia is typically forced into systems like that and away from streamlined ones due to budget or wanting students to learn the hard way of doing things.
      I think because in this hobby, the lines are a lot more blurred between professional, academia, and amateur we see this kind of favoring of complex setups under the idea of both cost saving and the more complex something is the more "real" way it is as if we all should be approaching this like undergraduates.
      So IMO for anyone else coming to videos like this on astro PCs for the first time, I think if you really want to focus on pumping out data, pumping out images, looking for things in the sky like exoplanets off the rip, a streamlined setup like ASIair is better than messing with both a purist DIY PC and then the hybrid offering of the Eagle computer where you have the option to install Nina or use Primaluce's ASIair like software, but you will still find yourself opening a hodge podge of other programs like PHD2 which can all cause problems the more individual software you are adding to a system and trying to communicate with each other and hardware.
      If you're more into bragging to purists, and about having tons of windows open and having complicated menus on screen to impress people at star parties then the complete DIY PC is the way to go.
      If you have a more dedicated setup and more time, like you are retired and can afford to lose some nights to troubleshooting, get an Eagle. It is probably hands down the most versatile and bang for your buck option with a development team behind it.
      If you want to focus on making good images as soon as possible because your astrograph is not a permanently located rig yet, or you want to get into analyzing images as soon as possible as a citizen scientist, and you do not want your hardware to be a hinderance, then go with the ZWO environment until you move into a place where you can have a permanent rig with access to more consistent and favorable skys. From there I'd slowly move to something like a high end Eagle until ZWO starts offering more compatibility with other brands.
      If you're completely starting from scratch and only care about making nice pictures to show coworkers/family/friends, or getting your kids into astronomy, go with a Seestar, or vespera and focus really on learning to use pixinsight or adobe. You could also get a dwarf 2 if you want to have the ability to image landscapes as well in a one stop gadget. Once you have the desire to look more at the data that images can hold where more zoom and RAW image formats become important to you then you'll want to build or partially build an astrograph.
      This is from some one who jumped into the hobby backwards because stuff like the Vesperia, ASI Air, Harmonic drives, were not offered and the only option was to start with a DSLR and build out a bulky and often non portable rig which meant you used it less and less especially if you also had a full time job during the day.

    The ASIAIR is basically an Astroberry designed for ZWO astro systems. You can buy a Pi 4 for about $80 and do the same thing with the added benefit of being able to use a much wider selection of equipment. Personally, I prefer to use a mini-PC with N.I.N.A and control the entire rig using VNC on my desktop in my home.

      I thought ASI AIR no longer uses the Raspberry Pi platform?

    • @MikeHammer1
      @MikeHammer1 2 місяці тому

      @@MrSummitville From what I could find out, the current versions uses a Rockchip based processor (They are typically used in Pi competitor SBC's). Either way it is still basically an Astroberry type system with limitations on the equipment that works with it. Nice for those who are already committed to ZWO.

      Sure it can. Go to Minute 24 - in the Framing assistant you see under Target the Horizontal and Vertical Panels that you can chose. It will automatically create a music and move the data into the sequence.

    Grüezi, Thank you for your présentation. I use various EOS Canon cameras. NINA only produces images in grayscale? What do I have to pay attention to when making the settings?

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  11 місяців тому

      NINA will also make color pics if the sensor is a color one. But with dedicated astro cams the pics then have to be debarred. But with DSLRs I don't know how it works, sorry.

    • @viewintospace

      It might be easier but you limit yourself functionality wise and you lock yourself into the ZWO universe. There are always trade-offs and for people who feel that ZWO offers what they need and can live with the functionality the ASI Air offers, this is perfectly fine.
