Pleasure!! I'm Brooke H. Cellars and I am the writer, director, producer, editor, production designer, cost- let's just say I'm the Dr. Frankenstein of Violet Butterfield! We are so incredibly thrilled our weird little short film is now part of the one and only ALTER!!! Our crew is a fierce female-led team from South Louisiana! Lafayette, to be exact. In developing Violet Butterfield, our aesthetic was inspired by darkly colorful films, mostly from the 60's and 70's, such as The Eye of the Cat, Peeping Tom, Female Trouble, Blood and Black Lace, Hairspray, Death Becomes Her, and many other classics!! For the story, my initial idea derived from Death Becomes Her in playing with the idea of the position that the character Bruce Willis portrays, Ernest, is the only one in the world who can fix Madeline and Helen when they get injured posthumously! I hope you enjoy watching and that you connect with her story in your own unique way! Please feel free to comment what you think and ask any questions! Thank you so so much for watching, thank you to my film family who help me bring this beautiful creature to life, and thank you to Alter for accepting our girl Violet!!! Be excellent to each other and stay beyond the norm!!
I love Violet. She is the Southern Latina Belle of the dead - beautiful, proper, flawless and fun. Great acting and comedic moments. Love this short - wish it was longer.
This is fabulous: from the The love witch aesthetic to the Adams' makeup artist cousin and the sass and the morbidity of everything, I love it all. Shirley coming up with a foot on hand.... Fabulous. I love it so dearly already.
Rarely comment but just wanted to say that this was kinda cute. Not scary or gross, but wholesome. The way Violet interacted with the "dead" was pretty interesting. Any chance of doing a prequel to this, to show how Violet got to where she is?
Very 60's. Mrs Butterfield is an amazing actress. She's beautiful, too. This film is serendipity macabre. Enjoyable. Light. Delightful. The five star effort all around. A new favorite! ✝️
This feels like an episode from an old TV show that you stumble across as a kid and you’re fascinated by it in a way you can’t describe only to realize years later how truly impactful it was for you. Sorry for the run-on sentence. This tiny world you’ve created feels like a home even if I’ve never lived there.

This is the most original horror-comedy short I have seen in many a long year....a weird mix of "Suspiria", "Death Becomes Her" and "Pink Flamingoes" but that really doesn't do it justice.....I would love to see more of Violet but don't let Amazon or Netflix get their hands on her, she is too special for that
I absolutely loved "Violet Butterfield: Makeup Artist for the Dead"! 💄 This period piece is not only visually stunning but also incredibly unique in its storytelling. The way it explores the unconventional profession of a mortician beautician is both intriguing and beautifully eerie. What struck me the most was the inclusivity woven into the narrative. The film goes beyond the ordinary, presenting a protagonist who challenges societal norms and embraces a different perspective on life, even after death. Violet's character is not just a mortician; she's a symbol of self-expression, authenticity, and the pursuit of true identity. The darkly groovy aesthetic adds a captivating layer to the story. The revelation that some individuals believe in living their most authentic life posthumously is a brilliant twist that challenges conventional thinking. I want to give it 100 stars if I could!
Thank you so much for sharing this and for watching! What a wonderful perspective on this story. Brooke H Cellars is a spectacular writer. She'll have the patience to massage a draft as many times as necessary which I think is why her work stands out. A lot of the writing today seems like it aims for instant gratification and therefore lacks the details we see in her work. She's currently working on her first feature so be sure to follow Warped Witch Media🤓😙
Wanna scream some more?? Ok, that sounded bad lol!!!! But seriously, we want to bring some more our crazy shit to the screen! How??? We're finally planning on shooting our first feature length film this summer that is set in the same world as Violet Butterfield!!! We would love for you to go check out and see what the film is about. It's called 'The Cramps: A Period Piece'! It will have lively characters and the full aesthetic of Violet Butterfield! We're bringing back Michelle Malentina (Violet Butterfield), Martini Bear (Shirley) and Wicken Taylor (Violet Butterfield commercial)! Go to any of our social media pages(in the description) or our Indiegogo page and you can see what the film is all about and how you can be a part of it! Thank you so so much again for watching Violet Butterfield!!
BRAVO 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 beautifully written, directed, and acting! I would love to see a full-length screenplay. It was cheeky and posh. It's slighting giving me Rocky Horror Picture without the musical. Elvira-esque type of vibe, and yes, definitely Death Becomes Her. Love it! I had to watch it again 🤌🏽

Weird af and beautiful movie! Loved it til the end and liked the music. the actors are so professional and so is the lighting, score and everything else. This looks like 16mm. A movie shot on film, that's also good? That's rare. So good to have seen it! By the way, the voice on the phone reminded me of Lucy from Twin Peaks, the receptionist.
