You're so right about watches. I'm not sure why more of us women aren't into them. They really elevate an outfit, especially in professional environments.
I feel unfinished without my watch. I’m never without my watch. Two years ago, for my birthday I bought a vintage Tag Heuer that I saw in jewellery shop when I was sixteen. I love this watch and I ‘ve worn it everyday since purchasing. I’m going to buy another vintage watch in the upcoming year. I’ve become a tad bit obsessed with watches over the years.
I just smiled when I saw the topic of this video!! I’m with ya sister on loving jewelry! This is such a great overview to consider when buying fine jewelry. I am inspired with how often you switch it up…I think I need to revisit some pieces that’s have been hiding in my jewelry box! I also love that you are singing the praises of lab grown diamonds that are molecularly the same as an earth mined diamond…yes they are real diamonds! Love seeing you back on You Tube🎉❤
I have been getting out some much older pieces lately too and it is so much fun! Kinda like seeing an old friend again. They are beautiful diamond and such good quality. Thank you Jenna and have a great weekend! Xoxo
This was really interesting and enjoyable. I love fine jewellery too and bought my first piece when I was 17, a pair of chunky gold huggies, which I still wear. I like to change my jewellery look every day too and very quickly get bored if I wear the same pieces for several days at a time. I am running some errands tomorrow and have decided that I will be wearing green with Tahitian pearls. I am not so much into white diamonds, I think of them as the framing pieces for something far more spectacular. My favourite types of jewellery are pearls of all types and colours, followed by coloured gemstones. Gemmology is something that has always fascinated me. I have quite a few gems that I inherited so while I can make a guess at where they came from due to their type and age I can’t say exactly. With the ones I have bought myself I like to know the provenance and the history. Many of them I know not only the country but the mine they came from. It’s a fascinating subject and the more I get into it the more I want to learn. With precious metals my father is a scientist and an invaluable source of information about them, their uses, both in jewellery and industry, and where they come from. In the past few years there’s been discoveries of huge deposits of platinum, palladium, gold and scandium in Australia but they haven’t started mining yet. Mining companies in Australia have to comply with huge amounts of legal and environmental regulations so it takes years before they are allowed to dig a hole. I don’t think a lot of people are aware that palladium is a vital component in electric car engines and that there’s currently a world shortage of it. This discovery in Western Australia will go a long way towards helping remedy that problem. I seem to have written a book here but it’s a fascinating subject.
I love your videos. You are so gentle and classy. I love beautiful things. I got very sick and now I only want things that one day my son can sell and make money on. Thank you 🙏🏼
I love jewelry too! In fact when I am deciding what to wear I first pick what jewelry I want to wear then I pick the clothes that would best showcase the jewelry I picked. Lol I personally don't like 18k gold as I feel its too soft and/or scratches more than 14k gold. My wedding ring set is in 14k white gold dipped in rhodium. I also mix my metals when wearing jewelry. For the last couple years I have been wearing a lot of yellow gold. I think that smooth woven bracelet is a Saduza bracelet or a variation of a Saduza bracelet, just gorgeous. 😊
You have a beautiful jewelry collection. I love jewelry more than handbag too. You are so right, they are investment pieces but they are not investment. Thank you so much for sharing Melinda 💕
I love this video. Jewelry hauls are my favorite. I collect vintage fine jewelry pieces. I have some modern pieces from VCA but my favorite piece of jewelry is a mid-century modern diamond and sapphire Tiffany flower brooch that I wear as a pendant. I love your Dior necklace and love your passion for jewelry. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks for sharing a portion of your beautiful jewelry collection. Yes, I agree with you - my love for fine jewelry is always first. I have always purchased fine jewelry but started my luxury purses later in my senior life journey - of course my first love of purses was Coach in my young 20s but nothing beyond that and now getting into more luxury purses in my 60s. I'm a lover of watches too. ❤ ❤
You are so welcome! That is similar to what I did too. I got Coach in my 20's and it wasn't until my 40's I got luxury bags. I am glad I bought jewelry first especially when I see the prices today vs when I was in my 20's! Xoxo
Lever backs are my favorite. I have some that are interchangeable. Meaning I can wear different “charm’s”. Like you I have worked in the jewelry business. I worked for a custom jeweler and was fortunate to see and accumulate some beautiful pieces.
They are so comfy! You just reminded me I have a pair of earrings I can change the stones in as well but they are hoops. How nice to have worked for a custom jeweler!
Melinda, I am so glad you made this video! 😊 I have definitely limited my luxury purchases over the last couple of years due to the significant increases. Item needs to make my heart sing before I even consider it 🥰
I’ve been thinking more into building my jewelry collection with higher quality pieces that last and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and recommendations for starting out😊 you have gorgeous pieces!
Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷! I love jewelry, it makes me so happy, I feel so satisfied! My signature look is a platinum diamond pave earlobe hoop in the left ear, a point one carat diamond platinum stud in the other ear, left wrist a little stack with again platinum diamond tennis bracelet, a half tigers eye half white gold Cartier style chain, a thin diamond white gold Cartier love bracelet and finally a diamond and blue sapphire hamsa white gold chain bracelet( seems a lot but actually doesn’t look like it LOL) baguette diamond and platinum eternity band in the thumb. And the right wrist I almost always use the same Santos Cartier watch like yours, but with no diamonds, stainless steel and gold bezel, croc strap. Loves it! 🤍
I’m with you regarding platinum. I love my platinum pieces. I have a Tiffany open heart necklace and a tiffany heart (w 3 sml diamonds) are among my favorite. Both preloved before it was a thing. My ex wedding set is platinum. The next will be platinum as well. So incredibly durable. I love yellow gold. And when i want ‘silver’ jewelry, I would not go white gold bc it needs to be dipped. Too much maintenance. I feel the patina from platinum is gorgeous. Thank you for this video. Your jewelry videos were my absolute favorite!!! 😊
What lovely platinum pieces you have! I would love to add more to my collection. Yes white gold needs to be dipped but when I bought a white gold ring in Bulgari they said it really depends on your skin's acidity. I have never had to redip any of my white gold pieces but my sister had to redo her wedding rings all the time. And thank you so much!
i bought a lot of jewelry pieces the last 2 years. I am at a point where i think ok i have seen it all. But now i am saving for a pink diamond piece. I am debating about earrings or a bracelet. I own 3 pairs of earrings i wear them a lot and my bracelets are on me 24 7. I dicovered 3 Italian brands Al coro ponte vechio and pesavento, 1 german brand Noen and one dutch brand called bron or in english source. My jeweler was very strict with me with creating a new jewelry collection, after birth of my daughter my skin was very sensetive for metals under 18 k gold. And i am allergic to platinium. It is a hastle. You cant never buy cute pieces when you see them in other metals. Even idyl which i am a fan of i cant wear. Can you make a video about how to choose your metals wisely because of allergy
New subscriber here from Australia 😊 l agree with your choices and advice in this video, when you mentioned the bracelet and testing them out first it is so true,l can not wear a solid piece it has to be fluid and flexible and by testing this first l saved a lot of money ❤️🌻
Thanks for this information. I am not a fan of platinum. I remember a couple of jewelers told me that it is soft compared to gold and that loses it shape and in time it does not look good, Thank you for this video. Now, I’m reconsidering platinum!
Glad it was helpful! It is a softer metal but my wedding set has never changed shape unlike my mom's gold set which got thinner and thinner. My husband has a solid platinum band and it also has never changed shape. My rings are 22 years old and his is about 8 I think. It is really a lovely metal.
Thank you for so much sensible advice! I’m someone who could never wear a bracelet that couldn’t be removed daily. No way! I know exactly how you feel!😉❤
I am so crazy for my opal jewelry collection, my birth stone! The most precious piece in my collection is a ring I had made using a my Grandmother’s cameo in a ring setting. My Mom and my Grandmother come with me when I wear their jewelry.
Hello, Melinda 🎉 I was looking forward to know more about your jewelry. Personally I have only pieces from the brand called h.stern. It is always good to know about your options.
@@LuxPurselove actually I did 😻 because I was always purchasing a handbags, I kind of skip a little bit on my jewelry collection. You have a beautiful pieces 😍
This may be a silly question, but what is the difference between lab created diamonds and cubic zirconia? I have never heard of lab created diamonds. Where have I been????
It's not silly at all. Cubic zirconia is the crystalline form of zirconium dioxide. It has been around since the 70's and looks diamond like. Lab grown diamonds have the same chemical, optical and physical appearance of natural diamonds. Per the GIA website "Think of it this way: lab grown diamonds are like ice from your refrigerator while natural diamonds are like ice from a glacier." So in other words they are real diamonds while CZ's are not.
@@LuxPurselove thanks so much. That’s a great explanation. I may have to check them out. It’s nice to know a person didn’t have to mine the diamonds. That’s a whole other discussion.
I’m confused Melinda. I’ve heard you say a couple times that you had Dior add three jump rings to your sun/moon necklace but my Dior Malachite Rose Des Vents came with three jump rings. Did I just get lucky or did you have them modify the length within the three jump rings? Great video btw. 🙂
Mine only came with one jump ring so they had to send it to NY to add the other 2. I guess different necklaces come that way? Or maybe they do it standard now?
@@LuxPurselove oh okay could be, I will be sure to stay away from that one lol. Which bezel do you have if you don’t mind me asking, just so I have an idea
