Hey, so as the JEE Mains is at the corner now, I know that a lot of you would be having so many doubts in the head. Some of you might be exhausted and may be thinking if all the work that you put in would be worth it or now. So, here's the answer. I invited 3 members, a student at IIT Delhi, a 2020 graduate at IIT Roorkee and a 2012 Graduate from IIT Kharagpur, to cover the entire spectrum of life and asked them the question. Is IIT Worth it??

as an NITian, it hurts my soul to see NITs getting ignored like that😭
My elder brother is from a very average college(passed out of college in 6 yrs) from hyderabad but the reason he is earning 80 LPA at age 30 is because of the knowledge and skill he has developed in his stream all these years in all subjects outside cse too, yes IIT will give you a major boost in your career but don't lose hope and make it a life and death situation your career and life is too big and JEE prep is just a phase just focus on what actually matters!!
Exactly, IIT doesn't give you the life, the hard work you put, does. The IIT tag only works if "you're the smartest person in the room", not when you need success.

Myself from a medical background.
You will see 70-80% medicos regretting taking up mbbs.
Our income will touch 30LPA only after 14years of studies (mbbs+pg+super speciality) at 34 yrs of age
While iitians will start earning so much at the age of 25 itself!!
So I will say iit is worth it than any other academic field!!
Take USMLE and then you would make 3times more than a IIT student if you really want to make money. I still believe if you measure succes via money then probably do business or make multiple income sources.

Ofcourse it's worth it for those who make it. But at the same time, we must understand that their is a spectrum of success. While there are a few thousand who make it, there are a few thousand who break under the pressure and suicide. And there are lacks more in the middle. A lot of them work hard, go through the pressure, but still don't make it.
You should ask them too - was it all worth it?
Also not everyone is privileged enough to go to coaching or get good teachers for personal attention

@@ayu63735 i agree people with trained and talented teachers with personalized attention do have a advantage.... cause they already know the best path and thus it makes it less time consuming for them to have all the best facilities ... in my opinion this makes the process of this examination quite unfair for those who are not able to spend all that money into coaching .

Message of the video: Getting into IIT is better for you, and not getting in doesn't mean you're trash. But why settle for 9 when you could go for a 10 out of 10?

It's no longer about if IITs are worth it cuz they are the most prestigious uni but i ask myself a lot if I've got that potential to crack this exam. It's not about hardwork but cognitive thinking, conceptual clarity, pace in solving numericals and all that which matter a lot, I don't see myself with any of these. That keeps myself exhausted and makes me lose all of the hope I've got. (P.S. just a random aspirant ranting)

@@nashrakhan5905 don't worry I'm in 11th too. I'd suggest you to take PCM when I've literally took PCMB (was unsure of career) The obvious reason is its better to justify our decisions than to justify our regrets in the future. You'll be able to manage PCM for sure! If you start loving what you're learning (atleast one subject) you can for real start your preparations in a brighter side. Good luck 🪄

Hey Tharun! I would like to start off by saying as always, this was an amazingly produced video.. although i feel the concept of this video was kinda jarred. To actually know if iits are worth it, i feel you should have also interviewed students from other colleges, let's say rvce for an example, or maybe not the best ranks of iit too (>10k) to give context, while explaining your point. But to all the people who couldnt clear JEE, trust me guys life is long run, and if you still put in the effort in the future no matter the college, there is no one who can stop you from doing well! I know many people who have been to iits and all are still not happy with their lives case of bad placements and vice versa, and I also know people who have been to a decent college but have cracked amazing placements and are really happy in their lives and vice versa here too!( I in no way endorse placements= money,but since most people aiming to get into iits do it are from a middle class household, it made sense) so whatever you guys try to do, give your best. No matter which college, put yourself out there. When you meet more people you will definitely improve and do well!

This one I believe is damn true, as I have entered 11th now, the school one or the other day is conducting orientation programmes and all other coaching institutes have started severely pressurising about getting an admission into their institute ASAP..this is so confusing for students but more for their parents!!

I think IIT helps you get a kick start. But once you're in the work force, everyone is same. I have six years of experience and I work with many IITians and I earn similarly to what they do.
yeah and if someone is really interested in a particular they can put the effort and time into that skill instead of physics or chem or maths or something that does not have any relation with that particular skill ... that should also be a kick start as u r starting early and getting all the exp and setting your base first

I am an SDE in good company. My team has people from IIT as well. But we both today are in same job and in the team the college tag will not matter but your skill set and tech stack matter. I’ve often seen people exhaust themselves while preparing for the exams and not want to do more i.e learning industrial skills during college years because apparently this is what we were taught - college mein toh aish hai. I’ve come from state level decent college and I can just say that if naukri is your end goal then iit is not worth the hustle of two years. If every student worked as much hard in college learning life/industrial skills as they do while preparing for the exams, they can do miracles.
Great video. But I think you should have brought someone actually working in a technical field for the 10 years graduated person. I'm sure the IIT tag would've added more in his/her profession. Also, you could've covered the higher education part wherein it is relatively easy to go for higher studies with the IIT tag than without

For IIT tag you dont need to burden yourself. I see most of the IIT people are leading a nornal emplioyee life same as non IIT. Even the crores of packages are big scam as 1 or 2 in 100 does not make sense. If someone offering good package as being IIT, It is clear that they are expecting more output. All these looks real dumb idea

I guess IIT is not worth is, it is a hype that many build for business but still whatever it is I am not stopping to do my parishram(hardwork) because the fruit may not be worth it but it is better then nothing and as someone from India you should also know that many private and non IIT government colleges give equal if not better education but you gotta try it once.
