Question of the Day 💡 What Microphone are you using for your UA-cam Videos? Let me know. **** Check out the Sennheiser MKE 400 Shotgun Microphone HERE ➡ amzn.to/3B7Zned
We’ve all had the experience of leaving our microphone on because it doesn’t turn on with the camera and capturing no audio because you didn’t turn your microphone on. This is a great solution.
I wish you compared the mic to other mics you already use to give us an idea how different and better it is because changing can be a big decision so we have to be impressed
The MKE400 has become my favourite vlogging mic too. Great noise rejection love the design and how the mic is almost in its own blimp! I often use the low cut and then in post, just add as much as I need down there.
Did you know that a micro phone is not a microphone? Jokes aside, yes good audio is more important than good visual. I’ve been using Rode microphone for my videos all this while and I had no issues with it whatsoever. Nonetheless, this microphone looks great!
Hi I wanted to know what you are using to Boom the camera out of frame? Mostly do you have a longer trs cable? If so which do you recommend Also how is it mounted? thanks
Pro tip- get locktite or other thread locker to keep the tork bolt from falling out. (Also it’s a T9, the other T means Tork, which is that star pattern. So it’s A Tork T9 driver, not a TT9, which is probably a droid in Star Wars.)
Oooooor... you can use a flat head screwdriver. I know it doesn't fit the start pattern, but it will work. I had the same issue with a TV mount. I drove to Home Depot and Lowes. They didn't have the size I needed. Out of frustration, I just tried some screwdrivers I had laying around. The flathead worked.
I was wondering if there were batteries involved and the second you said there was I was out. In my opinion there are other mics just as good if not better that don’t require batteries for the same price point. And at $200 might as well go another $50 (don’t eat out for a few days) and get a mic just as good that doesn’t require batteries. Being a musician I LOVE Sennheiser and use a lot of their instrument mics, but for camera audio I gotta stick with Røde. It does sound great though. If you like batteries go for it. I just don’t have time for that lol.
I’ve had the MKE 400 since August 25th. I upload 9 videos a week across 3 channels. I’m still using the crappy AAA batteries that came with it. I’d much rather swap out a set of batteries every few months than charge one. I’ve done both and carrying a couple batteries just in case is far less of an inconvenience than a battery pack if your mic runs low. Other than that, non-powered mics will never sound as good as a powered mic.
@@moremaassTotally! AAA Batteries that last 100 hours like in this mic are the smart way to go. It takes literally 15 sec to swap batteries so it’s a no-brainer. Otherwise if your chargeable battery dies say in another mic in the field, you are hooped till you recharge it duh! 😂
I have a free standing mic holder. My Canon camcorder doesn't have a cold shoe for mics. Is there an adapter for this mic to fit a standing mic holder?
How did you remove the echo/reverb in your recordings indoors? Many other reviewers of this mic still have a lot of that going on. Is it the treatment of the room that makes the difference?
I looked at the website and accessories and see nothing that will connect to iphone 12 since apple decided to use a different connection. Is there anything else in the box ?
Love this! How would you compare this with the MKE 200? I’ve just got the MKE 200 and love it but I’ve still been eyeing this MKE 400 for just that extra beefier sound its got!
@@nolanmolt agree! But I was afraid the length of the 400 might be seen when using on the canon M50. Camera Conspiracies did a video where you could see the 400 with furry cover on the edge of the lens, not sure which camera he was using though. Have you tried your 400 on the M50 with kit lens and is the mic visible on the edge of frame? Thanks! 🙌
That highpass filter is not a typical highpass. It kills everything below 200hz...once that's gone, you can't get it back. It's more for low-end rumble, etc, but if you're doing spoken word recordings, best to leave it on or you lose the character (and the chest area) of the vocal.
@@markshirley01 I've been using it without any type of cutoff and just making sure I'm in a decent room where possible and using EQ in post to handle my sound shaping.
Nolan, have you ever tried the Rode VideoMic GO on a DSLR (M50) this is an absolute nightmare with interferences. Strangly these bad noise dont come when i use the same mic (with SC7 cable) on my smartphone.
I use this a lot but I try to only use it when hand held vlogging and inside. The best advice I have is to turn the gain down in camera and add some eq after, or just use a different mic outdoors.
Hey Nolan, thanks for your review! I've been using this mic for a few weeks and I can't seem to get rid of the self noise (Hiss) out of it. I suspect it might be my A7IV preamp but even when I set the camera to level 1 and the MKE on the neutral I'm still getting a his. To get any real volume I need to set the camera to level 5 and the mic I plus. All that to say...lol How do you have your levels set for your mic and camera? Thanks
A lot has to do with post equalizing. I’m sure it’s a good mic but chances are it doesn’t sound that good without editing…. With that being said I think it’s time for a vocal editing video 😬😬
I have one and it does sound really good. The only real Issue I've had with it is that it can get this high pitched hum. however this can be fixed mostly by turning down the audio recording levels on the camera and then turning the levels back up in post
Is the volume just a headphone volume or actually adjusts the input gain to be recorded? I have Siny A7c since it has headphones jack is it better to listen via mic or camera jack?
Better to listen to the camera jack, because then you know you’re hearing exactly what the cameras recording because the headphone jack is from audio after the camera receives it, while a mic headphone jack records what the mic hears.
The volume control is strictly for the headphone output volume, not what's being sent to the camera. This helps to ensure appropriate placement of the mic and your gain settings, which can be set to -20 / 0 / +20dB with the switch on the side of the mic. While this is really helpful to get the placement right, you still need to watch your audio input levels on the camera itself to ensure appropriate gain structure throughout your set-up. Not every camera has a headphone output jack (unfortunately), so it helps to dial in your settings and listen back for confirmation before rolling.
