Japan was at the time an exporting powerhouse. Japan ran a large trade surplus and was blamed for US job losses. There were fears in Washington that Japan would overtake the US as the world’s largest economy. After the accord, Japan went into the " Lost Decade" that is economic stagnation and high debt. So the US is not new in undermining other economies. You are an ally to the US until you are its slave.

The hope was that the block would slow or stop China's space plans but that clearly backfired and now China has its space station. I think the same will happen with this entanglement.

Great for China, bad for US Tech giants. China has been wanting to build up domestic chip companies but that will require a lot of subsidy and tariff on foreign import to work, which would have been seen as unfair trade practice by the international community. Now, the US essentially ban its own export of chip to China and force its own allies to do the same. This gives China the free reign to do all the subsidy it wants to support its own domestic chip industry and achieve its long goal of becoming a strong player in the chip industry.

I am going for profit and growth.
Yeah, that's a pretty stupid question to ask, the world is much larger than US or China, there is no shortage of alternative options where governments don't stick their fingers in how you run your business.
Well, in that sense, China because China is the only country with a positive GDP growth number this year, around 3.6%, while the US is having mid-double-digit percent down.
@@AvadaKedavra943 Don't be ridiculous, no country in the world has a positive GDP growth this year and it's no secret that Chinese GDP figures are not exactly 100% honest, never have been.

Whatever is good ! Wait, trump are you spying me to see if I am buying Chinese products and bomb my home ?
China is embracing the highest speed of tech advancement now! And come on, we all know what U.S. is try to do now. We will see what happens in near years. Well, as a Chinese, I am thrilled about the future of China and America!
In the long run, competition between two superpowers are good for
the development of technology.
@Ruemann yes the US, has being stealing from the whole world during 100 years. But it will be over soon.
the odds are against SMIC. The semiconductor foundry game is super competitive with only 1 clear winner and many with deep pockets exit to avoid mounting losses. SMIC has struggled with 14nm for years while TSMC is now producing 5nm in high volumes. unless the domest chinese market is willing to live with such a big gap in technology, SMIC really doesn't stand a chance
The world should be a cooperative whole! The American way is to dig its own grave
su suwinner - Easier said than done. The same can be said for China - tell me, why the heck would CNY make an American the bad guy in their #1 action film (Wolf Warrior 2), if they seek peaceful cooperation instead of “Wolf Warrior Diplomacy”? When, it was trade with America in the first place that has employed tens of millions (if not hundreds of millions) of people in their home country via factories & supplier networks, and helped to lift them out of poverty? CNY has not played by the rules of fair global trade and has now become even more desperate, it would seem - resorting to nothing short of biting the hand that has fed it for so long - and is now seen as the aggressor in most of the Western world. Even Japan is siding with USA now. Look up the Thucydides trap.
@@christopherarmstrong2710 and how many american films have demonized people of other races? America didn't "lift" china out of poverty, america needed china on their side against the soviet union, and america alongside its aligned countries were facing economic crisis in the late 60s, 70s and china fulfilled that role. China provided a key role in the globalized economy. The thucydides trap as a theory manifests itself as america retaliating against china's rise, so if your trying to use it as some reason to hate china the aggressor within that theoretical paradigm would be america. It is hilarious that you think that the global economy is essentially the act of america feeding other countries prosperity lol. America enforced the naval trade routes and permitted trade over them, but that was no favor. America gained its sole superpower status in part THROUGH china's cooperation.
China doesn't understand cooperation. It won't even except an investigation into the Carona Virus. What does that tell you about them? They are absolute bigots.
USA attacked China first. China will have better technologies and cheaper too. My opinion we will see.
How are the recent developments counter productive to both sides, individually and collectively?

Jack Ma stepping down and starting ANT VENTURE is a strategic move to invest and financially support Chinese role in Global dominance.
Trump's trade war and isolationist campaign has aroused nationalism in China. Huawei's cellphone sell number doesn't change much because domestic consumers are more inclined to purchase Huawei phones with patriotism instead of rational decision (Huawei phones are still low on cost performance than other Chinese Android phones with Qualcomm chip).

Wonder if Trump is pro America or anti America.
You idea of NOT helping more Chinese companies means pro China is ridiculously stupid.
Actually what China calls "End Its Reliance", it not really end its dependance on US technology, it's just trying to hide the using of it. For example, instead paying us companies for using its software, they use cracked one, instead of buying us chips, they smuggle it from us or buy it from black market.China never plays by the rule, it always cheats, there should be consequence.

The biggest bully's tactics simply reflect its pessimistic view of its own future!
This is what sanctions from the US did for China: developing a better global position system North star, developing its own space program with stations, focusing on next-generation chip technology away from silicon to graphene, overtook 5G lead, and starting 6G for future telecommuting and etc. Worst of all sanctions has handed over 50 billion sales to vendors in Europe, Japan, and South Korea; which further depleted financial resources away from the US companies to stay competitive in this fast-moving industry.
