As you eluded too around 2:30, Geno Smith always executes the play within structure when he can. Thats why the playmakers for Seattle have been more highlighted. It's been easier for Shane Waldron to scheme, because he knows his QB is going to read the defense exactly as coached. Smith has always had the talent, he just now has pieces around him built for stability and success.
So basically he is Kirk Cousins or Derek Carr. That’s great but it has its ceiling. Seahawks fans can get frustrated with past offenses, but until the Seahawks exceed those past offenses in wins and points for a full season it won’t matter.
To say he is basically Kirk Cousins or Derek Carr is incredibly disingenuous. Geno Smith is top 10 in EPA on third downs throughout the season. Both of those other qb's are not in the top 14. Geno, has a higher arm talent level than both of those quarterbacks. Look at the film, the throws that he is making have been on the money, even when under pressure he has performed well.
@@Smooth258 Tom Brady and Payton Manning also always executed the plays within the structure as well, I wonder why you didn't bring up any of their names
@@dallasccooper Good way to put it. Cousins shrinks when he has to make a big throw and would take the easier short pass (despite what big numbers may say in the game logs). Geno's poise even in structured situations when the pocket is closing when making a completion has been a huge boon. Not to mention he can pass under center so the timely run plays off play action when Walker III finds an opening can turn to big gains. And of course he's shown to be great off structure as well with his ability to read and scramble if he needs to. If Geno's hit his ceiling now then that is pretty great considering he's got the best trait of the QBs who are great on structure but the added mobility with the talents to hit in the middle of the field.
I compare Geno’s year to the year Rodgers came to play NFL-football after Favre. The dude is fresh; he hasn’t taken any major injuries because of his backup role over half of his career. He was always a good player in college. The dude not only matured but he MATURED his mentality when playing the game. He doesn’t have to zip the ball for 60 yards. He doesn’t have to scramble for 20 yards. He just needs to control the tempo of the game with his mental maturity. Good for GENO!
Has anyone ever actually confirmed this by the number of TE receptions per game? Geno is probably utilizing tight ends differently, but maybe not “more.” Having Fant also helps.
Defenses also aren't selling out to stop the deep passing game. The Seahawks Russell Wilson passing game was always quick game (stick/slant routes) or deep sideline shots as those were conducive to Wilson's skillset. Smith doesn't have the weaknesses however that Wilson did. Therefore defenses can't sell out to only stop certain concepts. Smith has allowed the Seahawks offense to blend incredibly well.
@@Smooth258 yes. geno has targeted his tight ends 26.5 percent this season. wilson has only targeted 20.5 percent of his tight ends. and over the last 5 years wilson has only targeted his tight ends 20 percent of the time. so yea geno is utilizing his tight ends more. i mean they use the same bootleg or fake toss tight end sweep like 3 times a game and no defense can stop it 😂

But that is the opposite of what Seattle has done, they started a little rough and have continued to look better and better. I don't know if there is a Superbowl run in the cards for this season. But if Geno and this offense can keep firing on all cylinders, Seattle with a couple good draft picks will be DANGEROUS next season. Of course, the Seahawks have been underestimated all year, and weirder things have happened in the playoffs and Superbowl, so who knows what could happen this year at this point.

Hey Alex. Would u start comparing Geno to Alex Smith based on the trajectory of how their careers started and turned out to be later in their careers as far as them both excelling in a real offense?
As a charger fan, im waiting for the breakdown of why the chargers offense being so lathargic and hopeless. (Scheme and playcalling most likely, not giving herbert more trust with options and better pass plays)
Justin Fields update ‼️⁉️I remember when u said it’s unfair that he is asked to carry a team but unfortunately for that statement that is exactly what he is doing ✊🏾💯
There were analysts that liked Geno and the Seahawks outlook in the pass game in the preseason. Much in part because the OC gets to actually call what they want (like passes up the middle) and being able to sell play action with a QB who can at least read and move. Which of course makes Pete happy cuz he can still run the ball with his stud of a RB in Kenneth Walker.
I disagree that Geno turned the Hawks from a joke to a playoff team, every real Hawks fan knew we were 1 good qb and good defensive coaching away from the playoffs. Where I would agree is that Geno is the QB nobody thought he was.
I cannot stress this enough. Geno Smith is not playing well because of only playdesign. He makes difficult throws like it is nothing all game, every game. Perfect placement, tempo, touch. His passes are almost never wobbly
And I know people will take that as a slight but I think he's a 'better' version of that kind of QB because he's got zip in his arm AND he can move his legs. Which makes the play action for the Seahawks a great feature because not only can Geno execute and run if he has to, but Kenneth Walker can also gash defenses if they play them light boxes at the line.

It Pete and the players around him and our TEgame is strong this year
Amazing how the 2023 QB market was flipped on its head within two months.
38-21 final score
SEAHAWKS WIN 💚🏈💙😆😆😆
GO HAWKS !!
Excellent
New Sub, great video 📸
At this point Geno is still being underestimated Go Hawks!
And they absolutely could not move the ball Against SF this year. I look forward two the second meeting 🙂
Hey Alex. Would u start comparing Geno to Alex Smith based on the trajectory of how their careers started and turned out to be later in their careers as far as them both excelling in a real offense?
I’d compare Geno to Joe Montana. Not counting Geno’s time with the Jets, both became a starter at the age of 31.
@Henry Joe was in his second or third year when he became the starter, and he was in his mid 20's
@@eXoticon a better comparison would be steve young, but i think thats who you meant anyways.
@@Alex-uq2wb Yeah, I think that's what he meant as well
THEY WROTE ME OFF, I AINT WRITE BACK THO
Geno $mith
...the man with the plan BEAT THE BUCS...GO HAWKS
You and Brett Kollman are the best NFL youtubers on the fucking planet. Insane knowledge and simple breakdowns. Love you guys!
Brett kollman is good this guy is inconsistent
@@lefishe6229 tf you mean? They both post weekly.
@@jeffreycavanaugh340 his takes age like cheese
@@lefishe6229 you just saying shit to say it lmao. Any example?
Thanks Jeffrey!
Geno is just me playing madden in rl
GO GENO!! GO GENO!! WIN SEAHAWKS WIN!!
As a charger fan, im waiting for the breakdown of why the chargers offense being so lathargic and hopeless. (Scheme and playcalling most likely, not giving herbert more trust with options and better pass plays)
It was a bummer to think we would see Geno against Brady in Munich cuz one of the QB was kinda mid, qho could have guessed it would be Brady
Brady isn’t mid lol
Justin Fields update ‼️⁉️I remember when u said it’s unfair that he is asked to carry a team but unfortunately for that statement that is exactly what he is doing ✊🏾💯
He's getting an episode this week. I mean it's still not fair to ever ask one player to carry a team, that hasn't changed
Love your page! Just curious on your opinion as to why the raiders suck so bad
Thanks George! I think it's mostly injuries and Carr looks super uncomfortable
Being a QB is hard. 😂
Genius Smith
It’s a shame Geno and Saquon cant both win Comeback Player of the Year. I’m leaning Geno just because it’s such a unique story.
I think it's definitely Geno, he absolutely came out of nowhere. That is such an insane amount of time to miss especially as a QB
GO SEAHAWKS #GENOSZN
he could take over for the bucs,
Geno! #7GODBORNAGAIN #IBelieve
I feel as though you’re using double team and bracket synonymously
Geno "Lazer Arm" Smith
Was Russel Wilson actually holding Seattle back¿¿
In a few ways yes, in many ways no
SEA HAWKS SEA HAWKS SEA HAWKS
If you told me Geno Smith was going to be a top 5 qb this year, i would laugh at you.
GENO GENO GENOOOOOOOOO
I disagree that Geno turned the Hawks from a joke to a playoff team, every real Hawks fan knew we were 1 good qb and good defensive coaching away from the playoffs. Where I would agree is that Geno is the QB nobody thought he was.
Wrong with Pete it's never been 1 component it's always more than one.
Eat at Geno's
I cannot stress this enough. Geno Smith is not playing well because of only playdesign. He makes difficult throws like it is nothing all game, every game. Perfect placement, tempo, touch. His passes are almost never wobbly
Yes!
I think Geno will have a Kirk Cousins like career. Good for him.
Well his mind wasn’t in Germany that’s facts
