I’ve been attempting to fix damaged wood projects around my space but my dad has always been the type to just do and dominate a project, neglecting the teaching/instructing part, so videos like this have always been a huge help. So this is a general thank you to all my internet dads who have taught me most of what I know now!
Oh it's a fantastic tip. Everybody tells how to use mitre cutting machine. But you have given a beautiful explanation how to use a saw.The hidden secret.Great thanq very much.
My Dad was a carpenter, but I chose a different career. I inherited his tools but not his skill For years I struggled to make a decent straight cut with a saw, it was always hit & miss that is the clearest and simplest explanation I've ever seen, and I'll try to follow your advice in the future. Thankyou!
That mitre technique blew me away. I cant belive i didnt know that. I dont think many poeple do actualy, i havnt seen anyone do that, havnt seen any videos about it either. Nice one man!
For an amateur like me, I will clamp the wood and not reach like you do for the last cut. That is ok for the professionals….. Thanks though. This was very helpful.
Excellent video. Thanks very much. I had no idea that there was a ready made 45 degree angle on my saw, Doh! I had never thought of drawing a line down as well as along either. Very helpful.
Thank you I wanted to use a saw that I would trust myself and others trust me using (I’m 13) but no one would trust me with a saw unless I now how to use it so thank you for teaching me
I have to admit..... I seen this and thought "How easy.... nothing to learn here!" Embarrassingly I was wrong! Never knew about the angles at the end of the saw handle! I'm nearly ready to go see if my saw has them, as I've never noticed them before! Great video!
GREAT VID / GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOUR LIMBS SAFE / HAVE AND IRWIN SAW AND DIDNT REALISE ABOUT THE STR8 edge & 45 ' degree Cut line / also the elbow technique . Awesome !
Hey , thank you so very much for that video it was just what I was looking for , how to cut 45deg angles for my patio shelter.im partially sighted so need to see your vid up close so I got the jist..I didn't know untl yesterday that the saw had those angle?. yes like most I thght decoration. hahha. so im off soon to have a go.will search for more of your vids.. thanx again.ah maybe you could tell me if you have a vid on waterproofing shelter roofs, as I want to put clear tarp on the bottom of the reeds I have for the roof. any suggestions. (not a very heavy shelter).
@@HidInMistProductions Just keep your non-sawing hand firm, but away from the saw blade. Do not saw too quickly, and certainly don’t push down too hard. That is a big mistake. That can cause a saw to flex and pop out of the groove. Slow and steady does it… Let me know how you get on.
HEY MAN JUST SAW YOUR VID PARDON THE PUN I JUST LEARNED HOW TO MAKE 45 DEGREE ANGLES BRILL VID MATE CARRY ON , ITS WHEN YOU YOU BRAKE IT DOWN SO US SIMPLTONS CAN UNDERSTAND THANKS MATE.
How would I cut a 1 inch wooden dowel using a hand saw but no saw horse? I have a dozen that I need to cut in half as props for a dance performance. I have a few saws, I assume I should use one with smallish teeth. I can't afford to ruin the dowels and am not sure how to hold them in place. I don't have a vice either. I figured I could prop them up on blocks and then cut in between. I have someone to help me hold thing down as needed. Is there a different technique to use on a round dowel as opposed to a rectangular 2x4 or whatever it is that you were cutting?
Katarina S. You’d be best off using a junior hacksaw. I’d sandwich them in a couple of bits of timber and push down on the top timber as I cut. Let me know if you can do this. Otherwise, I can cut some and send them to you.
Your draw a lineman drive straight into your ribs... is that more comfortable for you to pull your hand into your ribs rather than off to your side? It's something I've learned to deal with in situations where there's no room but with space I prefer not to be ontop of my work but rather slightly off to the side of it. Dad was strict about aligning, he made me cut and study my ends and tell him about when my elbow veered one way or another and when my pressure was on the draw or the drive and when my attack changed too drastically... like I had to point to marks on my ends and explain why each mark happened so this strict sawing education is why I notice your technique so much.
Great video sir only thing i would of mentioned is cut just past the line as if you cut on the line the measurement will not be true it be of but great video sir
@@buildingsheriff I used the saw handle to square the wood , but I did all 4 sides of the wood whereas you only squared 2 sides. But the lines didn't join up. Does this mean the wood wasn't flat or the saw handle wasn't square
Ya, I noticed the little guy too. They always show up and do something like that at the most inopportune times. Leave it to a cat to upstage you in your own video. ;)
That's not the best way to start a cut. You shouldn't pull back, it makes the teeth jump. Use your finger as a fence, and make the cut. As in make a deliberate first stroke to start the kerf. Push it like you mean it, on the line, and with a little practice, you will make perfect straight, plumb cuts.

Amazing! I can't believe the hand saw is so much more capable than meets the eye. Brilliant video thanks
Thanks for the video.
0:45 I'm glad you made that mistake with a hand saw, and not a circular saw, table saw, or mitre saw!

I am a woman watching, here. Super helpful!! Stunningly impressive! I will give this a try!

Sounds really simple but actually really useful advice and guidance. Thank you
OMG THANK YOU! I have been looking for a week for some utuber to use a simple saw and explain the miter cut. Absolutely wonderful.
"I'm fantastic at sawring." Good video!
Thank you. Best explanation yet!

I use your channel as a guide to become a great carpenter, much love from Denmark!
Best hand sawing video ever buddy good job

This video helped me alot thank you for great video. I thought I was doing the right way lol...

Now I know the actual utility of the hand saw esp with the 45degree cut .. thanks man..

Thanks, very educational and straight to the point!
You nailed it. I mean you sawed it :)
I can't help but chuckle everytime a UA-camr states that the saw "doesn't really cut on the pull stroke" as they proceed to start the cut by pulling.
Indeed. But we’re not cutting, we are making a groove.
thanks hope this will help me with school
Really helpful video! Thanks!
Good Sound Advice
Thank you. Very helpful.
I m so impressed . Awesome
Not bad for a hand saw 👍👍
Great Video! Lots of info! Thank you

How much strength does it take? I want to try cutting wood with a handsaw but I'm not very strong
No strength at all. The saw does all of the work. Try it - you’ll surprise yourself!

Same technique making a straight cut on skirting board?
Absolutely

when you said you can set an 45* angle on a hand saw, I was like oh yeah!
same feeling but it easy works :)

Cut a v shape into the holding blocks. Place dowel in the v. If it is still hard for you, put tape over the dowel after putting in the blocks.
A bar clamp might be handy at the end of the cut.

He might be left handed, how else can he cut?
What a dumb comment
It was a joke, hence the wink at the end.
@@ross2007 my bad. Dumb joke in that case.
It's like Rupert Everett does DIY.
Is nt it better and more accurate to use a try square?
If you are doing fine cuts, then yes. But for framing and 1st fix work, it doesn't matter.

nice

Working hard - but with both hands - at the moment! 🤣🤣

I would not be able to keep the saw straight, so I always use a sawing guide with a tenon saw.

Its not always 45 degrees so don't trust it
For fine work, I agree. But for just basic cutting, I think it's good for a beginner to have a basic reference. Thanks for the comment.
