I’m 71 now ,was born in Barnstaple but married a soldier from fremmington camp , but I remember that train and watched it go over the bridge where the rive taw was , o for those days
I lived in Braunton way back in the late 1960s early 70s residing at 10b Abbotts Hill and working at Taw Garage in Barnstaple. I knew the line well... Such a shame that it was closed as today it would be a top tourist attraction making a fortune...
Heaven for me was escaping the bombing of Bristol for a whole fortnight at Mrs Harvey's boarding house down the hill from Ilfracombe station. I believe we would give a local boy sixpence to push our luggage back up in a cart. Those were the days.
The railway 🚃 track 🛤️ was single for around perhaps 🤔 3 minutes between Barnstaple Junction and Barnstaple Town dated back when it was from 1888 until 1967 for 67 years. The railway 🚃 line looks lovely ☺️. I just wish that the trains 🚊 were back on the railway 🚃 line again from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe via Braunton in north Devon in the southwest of England 🏴 because it was such a good 👍 railway 🚃 service. The service had last it’s business 👨💼 for 96 years from July 1874 until October 1970 is 96 years. The line had to close down for good 👍 because there weren’t enough people using the trains 🚊 everyday. The line was unviable. I honestly don’t think 🤔 there will be any trains 🚆 on the line will run 🏃 from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe via any route again anymore because north Devon is a small rural place. 👍👍👍
I like early films such as this. There are people here who probably had never seen a photo let alone a moving picture.
This is incredible. Love seeing history of my home town 😍
It would be great to see this film clip colourised and enhanced to 750p60 format!

This is very valuable footage for the archives and thankyou for uploading this. The Ilfracombe Station sign now stands outside of |lfracombe Museum.

Making a fortune in January, February and March?
@@DaveSuperThomastrain buffs go all year round and locals need transport all year round.

Filmed so soon after the invention of the cine camera as well! What a shame that proper colour film wouldn't be around for another three decades!
