- Old 8mm cine film from the early 1970's of Barnstaple North Devon England, Starts off in Pilton park onto Rolle Quay the old fire station Mermaid cross, North gate then to Butchers Row showing Bowden's shop on the corner and cars going down the Row, then the end of the High street looking at the Fortescue and the Nat West bank onto the Square and Mugford's Golden Lion Tap then the Strand with Bromley's, the Regal Cinema, The Bell Hotel, Bus station, Queen Anne's Building and the bottom of Cross street.

Arrived in 1980 young sprat to the town on occasions, i just loved it especially the old road with its views from Bideford entering the town, definitely a Golden period in my life visiting Bideford and Barnstaple, thanks for the great film.

I love how this film is put together alongside the music, you got the older parts of town that go well with the grubby baseline and the newer buildings with the sort of digital sounding keyboard parts.
Like some sort of excitement for progress of a new future, I suppose back then it may have felt like that too. New technology etc. we have everything now and it’s quite boring
I lived in Barnstaple from 1975 to 1980. I can remember using that slide featured at the start of the video as if it was yesterday. I also remember walking over the bridge railway line and seeing the semi fore signals. I would play on the castle mound during my childhood. I remember very well the walk to Blue Coats school too.
Great nostalgia my last two Cousin's live in Barnstape My Mum came from Bideford where I stayed with my Grandparents every Summer I love North Devon Thankyou
What a beautiful place Barnstaple used to be. The only good thing to happen in the last 50 years is the new bridge.
The days when you actually use all the roads in Barnstaple and weren't closed off! The old concrete civic centre building is now being demolished!
My parents ran west view stores.. the small building obscured by the bus. at 4.03 the happiest days of my life at Pilton primary school and Barnstaple Comprehensive
Was here in 1978-1980. Studied in North Devon College. Vividly remember the Fish and Chips Shop up the old stickelpath hill. Nice Fish and Chips.

Where North Devon Flooring is, and the traffic lights. Where those buildings were, it's the actual road now. Next to the old Sheep Skin Shop Area.
Can anyone kindly tell me where the camera is looking at 1:03 and what is the glass building building with the staircase is at the end of the street that is no longer there? It looked quite impressive
That's Northgate at the end of the High street it looks more impressive in the video then it was, there was a Steakhouse restaurant on the ground floor which was all the rage back then and you could get Chicken and Chips in the basket wow we knew how to live.
