Tipping Point for Texas Oysters

Texas oyster fisheries are at a crossroads. While oysters are the cornerstone of the Gulf Coast economy and heritage, populations have reached historic lows. The Nature Conservancy in Texas has developed a new approach to oyster restoration by building reefs that designate a portion as sanctuary and the other half as harvestable for commercial fishing. Working with partners and Gulf fishers, we aim to restore marine habitat while helping revive the economic vitality of our fisheries.
