Thanks for sharing this video! I’m new to haskap growing so I appreciate the tips! I have 12 haskap bushes. Last year I didn’t pick the berries fast enough and the robins wiped out over half my crop! 😢 I’m especially grateful to see your bird netting set up!! Where would I purchase this netting?
Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately the Boreal series is the only variety I can get in the EU, the others arent available. Im planning to plant about 10 plants in my garden this fall. Since Im in a very similiar climate as you, I hope I can get the same results. @@lahaveriverberryfarm2347
@lahaveriverberryfarm2347 Are you by the south shore with mid blooming varieties? I have a few haskaps which I planted this year but it sounds like you're saying a Tana variety would produce much more than an Aurora due to a tendency to break dormancy early in the winter. Do you still get a sizable yield from the mid blooming varieties? I know the early blooming ones can produce almost nothing in certain environments
@@dennisthemenance8022 I used to have early and mids, but I removed them as production was hit or miss every year. Only late varities now, basically varities that have dominant Japanese characteristics. Our problem was late fall bud break, sometimes very early winter, but mostly late October. I have one Polish variety that produces last week of June, but blooms late..kind of an odd ball variety compared to others. Berries are very tart though. The best producers are the late ones for us though. Our grow zone is officially 6b, but some years 7a/b easy. Depends a lot on the sea water temperatures. We are pretty close to the ocean. Going forward we will be only using late varieties and varieties that produce more roundish berries. Similar to highbush blueberry shapes. Easier to sort, and to machine sort with equipment already on the market.

I hope you do an update!
I do plan do to do one soon.
Nice video, where can I buy some
I found some at Home Depot last year and this year. They were reasonably priced and looked extremely healthy.
So which variety is doing really well as you show at 1:30? From my understanding its the Boreal series?
Maxine Thompson's varities. All of them. The Boreal series are doing well too.

Which varieties?
We did have quite a few. In this orchard they were mainly early UofS varieties. For us the best performing varieties are the late varieties.
