Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare and often misunderstood inflammatory skin condition. It is a type of neutrophilic dermatosis, which means it is caused by an abnormal immune response involving white blood cells called neutrophils.
PG typically presents as a rapidly progressing, painful, and ulcerative skin lesion. It can occur anywhere on the body but is most commonly found on the legs. The skin lesion may start as a small bump or pimple-like lesion and rapidly progress to a painful, deep ulcer with raised, bluish-purple edges.
