    @Church6397 Ya, i did that to, but i found out the putting your hand right above your thigh in your stance is works just as well as the traditional stance for me.

    Contact should be your first step so that the second step your foot coming forward follows the guy your trying to block.If contact is your secound step how does the lineman adjust if the defensive guy changes direction before the second step? Good video!!!

    @goodtimshi yeah your right but when you get out of your stance you have no choice of leaning foward. you push upwards after the first hit and you bring the guy up using your butt muscles.

    Good stuff, coach. You are supposed to use your hands on the breast plate and get the forehead of your helmet under the facemask of the defense. Doesn't really matter if you make contact on the 1st or 2nd step. That depends on how far off the defender lines up.

    The main blocks in football: Run (drive) Block, Pass Pro, Reach, Zone, Chop, and Scoop. First step should be a load with your hands which is called a position step, second step is your power step where the hands make contact simultaneously with the second step, while you roll your hips into the block. Stepping and making contact with the first step will force your legs to be out of sync when the second leg approaches.

    kind of... it really depends on how fast you move your feet and the block type, the one that he was demonstrating no, but the other two maybe.

    I am being taught in highschool that I should put one foot behind the other and take the first step with the hind foot. I think it is wrong because it takes to much time to go forward and make the contact. And, in the video the coach doesn't seem to do that.. so what do you guys recommend? put the feet in a straight line or one in the front and the other in behind?

    cjtp2 is correct, contact is made on the second step, but thank you for taking time out to help others.

  • @jonnieInc
    @jonnieInc 15 років тому

    the only i have to correct is your first step it should only be about six inches. you dont want to over step so you cross the line of scrimmage on a pass play.

    What should be the first point of contact? My coach is teaching us to make contact with our head (facemask) first, but I believe that's dangerous to the neck, and our entire team left with sore necks today. Anyone answer?

    ND Alumni, what does "getting your shoulder pad underneath the other guy, have anything to do with the drive block"?
    Casey, nice job of covering some of the basic concepts. Not everything is as how I would teach it, however, I enjoyed your video.

    But if your hands are up that high in the stance won't it just lower the intensity of the blow

    No you don't, CB's also use their hand in press coverage. O-Lineman and D-Lineman use their hands.

    Casey, I love your videos but leading with the facemask on a block is just as illegal as leading with the facemask on a tackle ... I am also old school enough to love forearms, chest & shoulder blocking & it works just fine from youth thru high school ... but I have no problem teaching hands either ... just remove the part about hitting with your helmet/mask/etc. ... finally, please note that a 'load' step 1st, then an 'explode' step with contact is the most powerful & balanced way to block ...

    Your gonne maybe break ur neck ¨blocking¨ like that. Now. I have only played 5 matches and 6 or so training's with gear on. But i know how to block. So this was a waste of my time. This is basic blocking.
