In Carnatic music we had Madurai Mani Iyer and in Hindustani Khayal singing there was Pt Bhimsen Joshi. Nobody like them before and "nothing" after them. Wonderful post.
In the bandish he is landing on the Som on the note Tivra Madhyam and not on dhaivat. Tivra Madhyam is a characteristic note of this raga, if he landed on the note dhaivat, it wud have sounded like raga Marwa.
Kyaa baat . Great Pt. Jee could evolve it in so many ways with little nuances of the bandishes. For his shishya Pt.Madhav Gudi it must be a challenge and an eclectic experience to accompany.
His rendition of the Puriya, in a concert 1957 is so vibrant ...emphatic , eclectic at the same time.

For it to be a Sohoni, where should the sam land?
landing more on Sa rather than Ma or Ga will lead to Sohani raag
