Miles straps into the latest Long Tail McLaren in this in-depth review. Tracing its origins to the McLaren F1 GT of the late '90s and succeeding the 675LT, the 765LT has some big shoes to fill. Based on the 720S, McLaren has stripped weight (up to 176 lbs), increased power (by 45 hp and 22 lb-ft), and enhanced exclusivity (limited to just 765 units) to create the 765LT. With a $385,000 starting price, the 765LT is track-focused but street-legal supercar with few direct rivals. Well-heeled buyers may also consider the Lamborghini Huracan Performante (or newer STO) or Ferrari 488 Pista (or newer F8 Tributo).

I have a 2017 mclaren 570gt. The whining noise you hear is not the computers. It’s the hydraulic power steering pump. Unlike most cars it doesn’t have an eps system (electric power steering) instead it uses an electro hydraulic unit. That’s way they have better steering than Porsche Lamborghini and Ferrari. Mercedes also uses this type of steering on the amg gt coupe and roadster. You will also here the wine in those cars also.

In a few years when I’m in a position to buy a flagship mclaren, I’m going full custom exhaust. Kinda like how savage garage gave their SVJ to Gintani and they gave it that blood curdling screech of a exhaust. I need that.

This must be the most relatable guy to do a review on a supercar... I could literally feel every expression and luckily there was no "mhh yeah it's good but lamborghini is .005% better in steering and acceleration" if you get what I mean. You sir are as legit as can be!

I am a McLaren Owner, and there is no question the 765LT commands the roads and track. Be advised the performance times cited by McLaren are grossly understated as well as the horsepower for their cars. The HDF 570s Spider has 625 hp at the crank and delivers 533 to the wheel. It runs a 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 10.1 seconds. I am sure the 765LT will run a 0-60 in at least 2.4 seconds and that it is producing around 800 hp at the crank.

mclarens suit very bright colours in my opinion, due to their ufo looking aesthetics. that being said, every car i spec out lately is blue, and this is an incredibly eye catching colour. when the sun hits it that shine is amazing. what a car

@@derekintrovert5619 if you've driven 765LT & Aventador SVJ, you will know it doesn't come anywhere near the McLaren - except engine sound, where the Lambo is far superior. I've not driven the Apollo, and am pretty sure you haven't either. And that costs 10x the McLaren, so is irrelevant anyway.

Not on a 1/4 mile, not 100 to 200 kmh, not from 100 to 300 kmh, not from 200 to 300 kmh and not on a racetrack. Laprecords dont say a lot because not all cars drive on the same das with the same conditions and sometimes not even on similar tires.

These are so fast, I once saw one just play with a Porsche Gt3 RS on the Nurburgring! It rode the Gt3 ass the whole track and passed it at will, so crazy this car is super fast
the aero changes remind me a lot of the Pista compared to the 488

It's amazing how fast cars have become. I own a 200 hp Motorcycle that would creep away from a 720S from a roll but I think I'd be close 765LT but it'd probably walk away from me. It is hard to comprehend! I would have no chance from a launch, and would need the bike to be lowered and strapped to stand a chance as stock height I could possible get a 9.9 @ 145-150 mph but this Mclaren is in the 9.3s which is insane.
At the launch the bike would jump up at the front wheel and loose much time in a race against the 765 LT just my opinion 😅

I think the double glazed window refers to the engine window right below the hood scope duct and not the rear window which is polycarbonate and not an extra option. Too bad they didn't option all of the exterior carbon pieces. Also, don't go around whacking the aeroblades haha

Another great LT model from McLaren. LT models are completely different beasts to the regular cars and worth twice the price IMHO. This is a big improvement on the 720S but not the same game changing leap as the 675LT was over the ase 650S. Mclaren really went to town with the 675LT to launch the LT sub brand and as such is still the stand out car from Mclaren and a guaranteed future classic
Well said. The 675LT left an indelible impression on me. The 765LT is better in every dimension, but it may not be as big a leap from the 720S as the 675 was over the 650.

That high pitch sound that you say it's from the computers in the car is not the sound of the computers. You hear the interval from it and every AlfaRomeo lover know's that it is from the hydraulic pump system from the gearbox that keeps the system under pressure.
What about the AMG GT black series as the competitor ?

Crazy fast car. Easily one of the fastest rear wheel drive production car which is impressive. I like that its noisy and you can hear the engine. I wonder if this is faster than the much 911 Turbo S which technically cheats with all wheel drive? The F8 Trib is fast but sounds like poop. The STO will be the best sounding but probably not the fastest. They are all rocket ships. Absolutely love that blue shown here.

The 765LT is massively faster than a Turbo S. Check out DragTimes, his 720s is a lot faster than a Turbo S and he also owns a 765LT which in turn can leave the 720s behind. The turbo s is doing low 10’s, the 720s 9.7-9.8s and the 765LT 9.3s. Still love the Turbo S though as an everyday supercar.

That’s not a race but it would be fun to watch, although my favourite supercar is the Turbo S, the 720s on any decent surface is massively faster and the 765LT is a lot faster again. Brooks did 9.3’s in his factory standard 765LT.
F1 GT? I think you mean GTR Longtail. The GT was only built for homologation.

Such a great question. I think I’d have this. I’m not a super flashy person, and while the Aventador SVJ’s sound was incredible, it was also too shouty of a car for my personality. This 765LT is wickedly fast, looks cool, and isn’t quite as flashy as the Lambo
