Got family in Sheffield, when my parents split up when I was a kid, over 35yrs ago now, and it was massive, but it was really nice place then in the 80s, stayed there a couple of weeks, and really enjoyed it traveling round the local places, Barnsley, chesterfield, and other places.
Football, cricket, tennis, golf were all copied from other nations and modified a bit. Football (and Polo) from the Afghans 'Bushkazi', cricket from the Pacific islands of Samoa 'Kirikiti', tennis from the Latin American Aztecs game, golf was a Roman game of holes that took various forms on the European continent after the fall of Rome.@@justinshore5566

Everyone from many schools knew about that fella's murder. There hasn't really been instances with that much notoriety *since* 2008, to put the safety of the city into perspective. The "Little Chicago" is news to me and I understand why, since it's a situation from 100 years ago.

Up until a few years ago Sheffield was the safest city in the UK, renowned for having a "big town" feel to it. In comparison now South Yorkshire County has had four murders since 1st January 2022, not that long ago the County would see these sorts of numbers over a six month period...
